Honeywell is bad news.
I purchased the Honeywell warm-mist humidifier in December 2004.The machine died after 20 days.We only ran it at night and it worked fine until it died.The warranty is for five years.However, it costs $10 for a repair service fee in addition to the cost of shipping it to Massachussetts.After all that I may as well buy another humidifier.This time another brand.

So far so good
Pros -
Quiet.I have it right next to my bed.Other than the occasional blurb (water bubble), it's very quiet.

Remote is useful.No need to get out of bed to turn it on.

No filter to buy.Easy to clean.

Room for Improvement -
The humidity meter is useless.It started at 20%, and kept it at 20%-25% after a whole night on high.The room is only 12 by 12, so it has to be wrong.This also means, my humidifyer will never turn itself off, because I set it to 60%.

I think the meter is measuring what's on the floor level.I have hard wood floor, maybe that's why?

The LCD display is impossible to read when humidifyer is placed on floor.You have to kneel down to read.

First few time, the vapor has a weird smell.

Cons -
It's not really 3 gallons.On high, it'll run for about 5-6 hours only.On low, it'll run for about 10 hours.

Not easy to change water.You have to pull the container out, then flip it over to fill it, and flip it back to put it in.Seniors may not have the strength to do it.

When water run out, it just blinks with the RESET icon.It doesn't shut itself off.And after a couple weeks, I cannot press the RESET button to reset it.I have to unplug / replug the power.It also started a burnt smell, which worries me.

Works for me
Have had this unit for almost 2 years.Love this unit and planning to buy another because I've moved into a bigger place. I've not had any problems with it whatsoever.

Features I like about this unit:
-- the tank lasts a good 7-8 hours at the high level so I turn it on before I go to sleep and don't have to wake up and refill in the middle of the night.
-- almost maintenance free.I only have to wash it once every year (after winter) before storing for the next winter.I've seen another review where more washings may be necessary (probably due to hard water).
-- no filters to use (cool mist humidifiers require this).This is probably a personal preference but I don't like the idea of spending $$ to buy filters.

What I don't like about the unit:
-- humidity gauge is useless/unreliable.At first I tried using the humidity gauge to control the unit's operation but soon I find it to be in accurate.What I do now is let it run till the tank runs out, or use the timer.
-- this unit is extremely quiet, except for the occasional gurgling when the water through the tank.

Both things I don't like about are really minor (to me) or I wouldnt' have kept it.But they are the same reasons I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.

Broke After a Week
I've had my humidifier for only a week and it is already broken. I ran it once a day or so until it was empty. Then one morning I checked on it to find that it was off. It just shut down on it's own and I can't get any power.

Stop working after one winter
Worked for one winter. And this year after using it twice it stopped working. Right now it can't be turned on and once it's plugged in the digital display just blinks. Called www.kaz.com and I have to pay $30 to cover the cost for shipping to have it fixed.

By the way, my friend got the same unit a week after I got mine.
Her unit is acting the same way now....Does that mean they have really good 'Quality Control' ??

Breathe Right Nasal Strips, Large, Tan (30 Strips)
I've used the Breathe Right Nasal Strips since they were introduced and have been pleasantly surprised that they live up to the manufacturers claims. I've noticed more energy when used during daytime activities where extra exertion had left me a bit fatigued and short of breath. I've also been told by my wife that the Breathe Right Nasal Strips have lessened and almost completely done away with my snoring. I feel more rested.
Do make sure to follow application directions - clean the oily surface of your nose so that the product stays on. Even after
overnight use, the Breathe Right Nasal Strips are easily removed. I'm happy with this product and so is my wife.

This product really works. I have to admit I was very skeptical, but after trying it, I could actually breathe better. I recommend this product to allergy suffers or anyone who has a stuffy nose.

This product was great at clearing up stuffiness and I used it mostly when playing sports. They helped me breathe through my nose better. The drawback is that the strips tend to start coming off when you sweat. The ends lift up and it gets so annoying you just pull it off. I don't snore but I do breathe heavily while sleeping and it did help with that. Another drawback: the cost is pretty high.

helps asthmatics a great deal
This product is more energy-efficient than many, which is a big plus for an item that many (like me) leave going 24 hours a day, due to bad allergies and asthma.These have helped my mom a great deal at her place, though she did have to return one unit that developed oily spots inside, then became noisy.

Best product for dry, stuffynoses
Saline nasal gel is longer-lasting than just plain saline. The humidifying effect reminds me of a cool, misty, spring morning. Usually lasts all night; in extremely dry environments you may need to use a bit more than one application during the night.

I bought this humidifier in an emergency for my son who had chest congestion/cold/flu symptoms..from K-mart..and it was the biggest mistake of my life.First of all, the instruction tells you to clean the wick every two weeks OR as necessary..and it is true.. the WICK is disgusting.It was not even ONE week of my using it that the wick got really smelly.It says to soak it in vinegar and water BUT after you do that.. it will just start smelling again..and get really dirty.Also.. the EVAPORATIVE system.. is a SHAM!!!it does not evaporate any of the water sitting beneath the filter..and the filter will still stink and get dirty.The humidistat does not even work..it stays on really humid..even when the room is freezing.Bottom line... Worth It
I had been pricing and comparing the substantial number of humidifiers on the market and I am glad I settled on the Air-O-Swiss. Despite its higher price, I am quite satisfied with its functions, control, design and specifically, its quiet operation. I was looking to pay between $70-150 for a quiet, low-maintenance model to add humidity to my [very dry] 10x12' bedroom. I purchased it at a local store for the same price as listed on Amazon; I am glad I was able to see [and hear] this model in operation.

There is NO sound, even at the highest setting. I'm a light sleeper and cannot fathom a bedroom appliance that even approaches a dull hum.

The visible mist generated by this model is pleasant for me and my pets.

I have been refilling each morning, as I have had the device on a high setting and running nonstop.The compartment becomes about half-empty after a full day at this setting. Refilling is a snap.

The ability to have cool and warm settings is a big plus, since the jury is still out regarding the negatives and rewards of either mode.

The system has been running clean and I am certain this will continue to be the case with a modicum of effort. The cost of the filter and the silver stick is not intimidating and the recommended three-week maintenance check is reasonable.

The design is quite fetching. Minimalist and fetching.

I have it sitting on the floor and there is no dampness on the carpet as mentioned by owners of other brands. This tells me that this model is doing a good job of propelling the mist into the air.

My roommate recently paid $29 for a smaller Holmes humidifier. The Holmes is downright deafening and I am sure she would have paid the difference for an Air-O-Swiss. Silent operation is really important.

The only possible shortcoming is the hygrometer. It is not entirely intuitive: the machine is to shut off after the desired humidity percentage is met, yet I have yet to see the model shut itself off. Turning it off manually is not a big deal.

I took a big step purchasing an air purifier, but this purchase has made a significant difference in my bedtime and bedroom comfort. I've had some winter nights with seriously labored [allergy, smoke and pet-related] breathing but I find this device has given me a little peace of mind and tangible change.

High cost, but has its benefits
This humidifier is about $100 more than comparable warm mist humidifiers.It's also important to note that you'll have a minimum of $40 in annual operating cost you don't have with a warm mist humidifier from replacing the antibacterial stick ($25, annually) and the water filters ($15, needed every 2-3 months to prevent the humidifer from spewing white dust, which was a common problem with earlier ultrasonic humidifiers).Still, I think it's worth it for these advantages:
1.Very quiet operation, no "boiling" sound (though still has occasional burble from water dropping down)
2.High output.
3.Looks good.
4.MOST IMPORTANT: relatively easy cleanup.You can clean this thing every two weeks, and it's just a matter of rinsing it out & brushing the ultrasonic membrane.No weekly descaling & disinfecting with bleach that's proscribed for the warm mist humidifiers. I'll pay the $40 a year to save hassle & time cleaning.

Do agree it should have a digital hygrometer for the price.Also it doesn't seem to be any more accurate than other cheaper humidifiers I've owned (measuring with a separate hygrometer) but nor does it seem to be less.

Recommended.

Humidifier Bling
I am very happy with this purchase. I can't imagine another unit outperforming this one.
Pros:
1)High design; the prettiest, sleekest humidifier you'll find. Everyone who sees it compliments me on it and it's become a very popular acquisition.
2)High output: produces a thick, steady stream of humidity. When on highest setting, outpaces volume of other cheaper units.
3)Great customer service: I had a hairline fracture in the water tank and the Air-O-Swiss folks replaced it within days; it was very fast service and completely hassle free.
Cons:
1)After 2 weeks, I discovered a fracture in the water tank causing water to leak out onto the table.
2)No hygrometer/hygrostat display so there's no way to know for sure what degree of dryness you need to compensate for.
3)Water tank is a little on the small side and needs to be refilled often - Very often if highest volume setting is used.

Cool Technology, but would love a digital display

TRULY THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE BARREL
Terrible product.NOISY - even in SLEEP MODE.The unit claimed it came with a remote control - it didn't.The LCD doesn't work properly - when i replaced the filter, then the LCD stopped functioning COMPLETELY _ when i called customer service a woman named LISA who said she ran the entire BIANAIRE operation, told me that the most she could do to fix the unit is to CHARGE ME to SHIP IT to her - before her, the person was trying to fix my unit by reading me the owner's manual over the phone - honestly - RUN FROM THIS COMPANY - instead of shelling out hundreds only to be hung out to dry.THis is truly the worst product on the market - and the VERY WORST customer service i've ever encountered on ANYTHING.

BAP 1300 - Don't Buy It
After waiting too long for Amazon to take this unit into stock I finally cancelled my order as we were well past the start of allergy season.I therefore purchased from Bed, Bath & Beyond... anyway, it didn't matter as for the results.My first unit I tried the digital filter usage display stopped displaying some of the digits and I could therefore not make out the true reading.So I ordered a replacement, this 2nd unit didn't work upon arrival.The LCD power came on... but the fan motor inside did not work.I'm really surprised Bionaire would have such poor product quality as to allow these types of problems to go out the door!

Don't order this one
I ordered this product around Jan/Feb 2005 from AMAZON. It has not been shipped yet. It is delayed to Jun17. I am not sure I can get it at that time. Amazon may delay for another one, two or more months.

Horrible quality control...they simply stop working.
Here's the letter that I sent to Bionaire...I've yet to receive any "satisfaction" (i.e., my money back or a unit that works).

"Where to begin....I originally purchased a Bionaire BAP1175 unit from Amazon.com.The unit worked but I could not get it to reliably go into the Sleep setting.After several weeks I decided to return the unit and get a replacement.You sent out the second unit, and that unit worked great...for two days, after which it completely died, and hasn't worked since, and this, after having waited for nearly a month for the replacement.I decided to be restrained when I called, and spoke with a very nice customer service rep., who agreed to send me out a replacement, 2nd day air.The replacement was a BAP1300.This unit worked fine, for one day as well, and now won't turn on.I believe that there must be a fundamental flaw in the design of these units.I am sending this letter as a last attempt at receiving some satisfaction.If I don't reach a satisfactory resolution I will feel compelled to search out every consumer review site on the Web, and post my negative opinion of Bionaire and your air filter products.It's a FAN for goodness sake!!I have to say I'm suprised I've had this much trouble.The unit itself seems quite sturdy, it just simply doesn't work."

Strung out by Amazon
I can't comment on the quality of this product since my order was never filled by Amazon. I ordered the item on Dec 8 when the claimed delivery was 5-7 days.When I came back just before Christmas to check status, expected delivery had changed to "Jan 13 - Jan 31". Then today (Jan 26), Amazon sent me an email asking me to confirm a new delivery of "Feb 28 - Mar 18". This was to be a Christmas present in 2004 not 2005! Does the job
I've had mine for 3 months.Works fine and does a good job.On low speed it's quiet enough, although I have it in the hallway to humidify a 3 bedroom area.Love the fact that I don't have to replace the wicks ($$$ saver).That's what made me buy this in spite of the other noise complaints I'd seen.

Very easy to fill the tank and the tank is sturdy and easy to carry.No problems with water leakage.Sometimes the gurgling sound as water is being drained is a little annoying, but not overly so.

Overall, I'm satisfied.


Update (1/12/05) Cleaned it last spring easily with vinegar/water as instructed in the manual and packed it away.Got it back out and started using it in December (12/04).Once in awhile it vibrates a little more than I recall last season, but it's still bearable.It's a bummer others have reported problems with this model.I'm satisfied.

'tis a piece of..... junk
Mine lasted about 6 months. Put out about 5 gallons/day in winter. Loud, loud, loud, but beared it since I had already paid for it. I had to snap together the water pump assembly (a fan blade in a housing that pushed the water though a tube) on many occasions. Could not truly fix it since it is made completely of cheap plastic. In the end, the motor burned up and left the house smelling like burnt varnish for 2 days.

I bought two humidifiers, the 3 gallon, and the 2.5 gallon, and within a month, both of them quit, the motors burned up. Upon notifying Hunter, I was sent two replacements immediately. One of them is already making a loud noise, and I expect the other to quit anytime. I would spend a little more money and buy a better humidifier because each time you send it back, you have to pay shipping which isn't cheap.

Noise was too much!
I just returned mine. After a week it rattled like a bugger! Kept me up at night, it was terrible.

TOO LOUD!
I agree with the previous review, that this humidifier was fine at first but grew louder by the second week of use.The fan rattles like a garbage disposal.I tried running it only in the daytime but that defeated the purpose since I need it while sleeping.

Went and purchased the Hamilton Beach 05519 from J&R Music World and it is quieter but still also loud.But I'll take a loud HUM over a loud RATTLE any day!

I'm mad that I have to change filters now, but supposedly only every 2 mos. with the Hamilton Beach.I will stay away from all Hunter products in the future because now I've done some research on the Web and it seems that quite a few people are having the same noise problem.There is a defect.Not only that, one model of Hunter's was recalled due to a fire hazard! ... Worked in the beginning, but not any more
I started using Zicam allergy nasal spray about 4 years ago, and at first I was amazed how well it worked.At that time I had been using NasalCrom which is formulated to block pollen from reaching the membrane of your nose (at least in theory) and is to be used as a prevention aid, not symptom treatment.I wanted something that could relieve the stuffy nose and the itchy eyes, and I liked the sound of "homeopathic," so I gave Zicam a try. The first year I used Zicam, which was very expensive at the time, I liked it a lot as it made my hay fever more tolerable.

But it simply stopped working the second year.I bought two fresh bottles (since each contains only 0.5 oz. and runs out rather quickly) but got no relief this time around.I did not give up and tried again last year, but once again, there was simply no effect on my hay fever at all.I became very disappointed.

I still recommend you give this a try and see if it works for you.I also recommend you try NasalCrom, which is not homeopathic but can help prevent the symptoms.Just remember to start using NasalCrom two weeks *BEFORE* your hay fever symptoms first appear.

worked, but with side effects
I did receive allergy relief from this product. However, I got a bloody nose after using it for three days. I am not prone to bloody noses, so I believe it was from using this product. Although the bleeding was not excessive, I stopped use immediately. The bleeding stopped after two days.

Not a great product, despite Consumer Reports review
I agree with other reviewers about humidistat cycling on and off. I ended up not using the auto feature. Also, once the tank gets low, it starts to rattle a bit in the base and is no longer "whisper quiet." Finally, our house has old steam heat radiators and our room is 13x13 with 9 foot ceilings and the tank did not last the night during most of December and January when set to 40%. I did, however, find the replacement filters easily at Target. I would not recommend this humidifier.

Noisy and Leaks
I read several reviews on this including consumer reports trying to find a unit with a timer. I found this unit to be noisy and water leaked from the base all over the table and floor the first time I used it - I returned the unit and would not recommend this unit to others.

I agree with one reviewer that the humidistat is regulated in a very tite range causing it to cycle on and off very frequently.I don't agree with the fan noise.I found it to be very noisy compaired to the two Bemis humisifiers I had for the past two years. I admit they don't have the air ionizer and other features but at least I can forget they are there.Oh and the wick is hard to find.

I would not recommend this product.
I bought this humidifier on the recommendation of Consumer Reports.It's easy enough to clean and handles hard water well.However, it is as loud as a box fan and it leaves a puddle underneath itself.In addition, filters for this model are somewhat hard to find.Most noticeable among this model's drawbacks is that it constantly flips on and off when you put it into automatic mode ("Accu-Stat").My wife and I are going to return it and purchase a quieter, warm-mist humidifier with no filters to replace.

Difficult locating replacement filters
This humidifier is exceptional in that it also incorporates an air filter along with the wick -- a definite bonus in an arid household filled with dog dander.

Unfortunately, although I bought the unit at Menards (a regional big-box home improvement store)just before Christmas, Menards doesn't stock the replacement filters.I am thrashing around online searching for the replacement filters, still with no success.

The performance of the humidifier would rate a 4-5 stars (though I've noticed the same constant on-off issue when using the programming mode).The hassle factors drop the score down to a (very generous) 3.Before anyone considers purchasing this humidifier, I recommend ensuring they have a guaranteedsupply of replacement filters lined up. ...
