sugar free is essential
Even if you're not diabetic or have blood sugar issues, sucking on hard candy all day (even cough drops are essentially hard candy) makes a hayday for tooth-eating plaque and tartar.

The cough drops are soothing and breathing the vapors really helps to clear the nasal passages while you suck on these things. They last a decent amount of time and really help to sooth a dry, irritated throat.

Good for an Itchy Throat!
I use Halls Menthol-Lyptus throat drops but not for a cough suppressant when I have a cold but for when my allergies make my throat itchy and I find that it helps to relieve my sore itchy throat and this Honey Lemon flavor though still tasting mediciney like the other flavors is much better tasting then the cherry flavor and the regular flavor! ... Still going strong after six winters in northern Ohio
When we bought a five bedroom house in 1998, winter was fast approaching.I hate a house with low humidity. Petting the cat turns into animal torture, and walking across carpet and touching a metal doorknob always ends with a nasty surprise.Then there's the lousy feeling when you wake up with a plugged nose, crusty eyes and a sore throat from breathing dry air in a cold house.

We keep our Holmes 3500 on the ground floor in the entryway next to the living room where we have a wood burning stove.Rated to handle homes up to 1700 square feet, this model easily handles our 2400 sq feet.With three speed settings and large capacity twin tanks, the 3500 goes 24 hours between refills even with the woodstove running in the dead of winter.(The woodstove removes air from the home, which pulls dry outside air into the house.)

At the highest fan setting, the 3500 is a little noisy, but it pumps out the moisture.We typically run it on low or medium during the day, and then use high at night to saturate the air.

A small plastic humidistat was included with our unit, and we keep it at the other end of the house to be sure we're getting an accurate reading.For us, the comfort level is simple to determine.If the cat sparks when we pet him, we need more moisture.No question, using a quality unit like this results in fewer colds, better sleep and lower heating bills.Our thermostat stayed at 67 degrees all winter, and even lower at night, and we were comfortable.

What impresses me most is the durability of the unit, with one exception: the plastic handles on the tank of our unit were loose when we unpacked it, so we used superglue under both handles to bolster their adhesion to the tank.It might not have been necessary, but I didn't like the way the handles flexed when carrying a full load of water across a Pergo floor.

Our city water is on the hard side, so we usually replace the wicks every two weeks in peak season to maintain efficiency and comfort.BTW, Amazon has the best price I've ever found on wicks for this unit, so look no further.

Good Humidifier for the House -- But Costly Filter
This is real good one , except the fact that the filters needs to be replaced every 4 to 5 weeks , which is almost 12 dollars . I have used some humidifers in the past and all of them never needed have the filter changed for weeks.

Should be an excellent product for an entire apartment!
I don't actually have this exact humidifier, but I have the previous generation console humidifier from the same manufacturer - model Holmes HM3640. If this one is anything like the previous generation, it will be a cinch to refill the two water tanks (especially if you cannot lift a single full-size one), and the controls will be intuitive and easy to operate. My current humidifier does a marvelleous job in keeping the air humid and comfortable either in a small or a very large room - even a small apartment. I have tried many other humidifiers, but they were too inefficient and/or too noisy at their medium and highest settings. Varies from one to another
I originally purchased this unit for my child's room 2 years ago -- worked fine.There was no soaked carpet, no leaks, no fires, and no problems finding filters.I even liked the level of sound - it would get loud gradually.My child (now 2 yrs old) loved the sound so much we had to find a sound machine to duplicate it.

We purchased another unit for our second child's room.Strangely, this unit worked differently than the first.The second one leaked (very litte - nothing a hand towel under the unit couldn't fix) and was MUCH louder than the first.I also found that I needed to refill this unit more often than I did the first.

I didn't see too much of a problem with the difference, just thought it was worth mentioning...

Was it supposed to be a humidifier?
I am greatly disappointed.I purchased this humidifier a few months ago, and back I am shopping for another one as this one is going into the yard sale pile.It can run for hours and hardly impact the humidity level in a bedroom, with the door closed.I can't run it at night because it is so LOUD.Also, I have probably purchased three or four filters for it already.

different than expected
I am also accustomed to the old fashioned humidifiers that blow out mist and accumulate white dust on everything in the house. I bought this for my daughter because it said it was quiet, that is a bold faced lie. I don't know how many times I've asked my daughters to turn off the bathroom fan, and they say Mom, that is the humidifier, and I'm downstairs. I have it on right now and it sounds like someone is using a blow dryer! I'll keep it because it was cheap and so what if we throw it away at the end of the season. Easier than returning it. And don't forget to clean it out, because if you leave it off for awhile and then turn it back on, it smells worse than wet dog! It was nasty.

Works great in my baby's nursery
My baby has a very tiny room and I was reluctant to buy a humidifier for fear of wet walls, carpet, furniture, etc.This model seemed smaller than others so I thought I'd give it a try.I've used it for only 2 days now but it works great so far.Her room feels very comfortable, not overly humid (on low setting).There is no mist coming out so you hardly notice that it is on unless you put your hand to the front and feel the cool air coming out.The noise does not bother her when she is sleeping and actually probably helps as a white noise background.I'm glad that I purchased this model and might buy one for my bedroom as well.

My Dry Room is Renewed...
I started getting sick, and for the first time since grade school had a bloody nose.That coupled with getting dry mouthed and dry skin and chapped lips every morning made me consider a humidifer.

When I went to the store I wanted a cool mist one, as cool mist would be nice in my room that is hot and dry during the winter.I expecte a misting machine, this thing doesnt mist, but I'm happy it doesn't after reading all the review of people with soggy carpets because of their misters...

Since having this I haven't felt as dry in the morning which is nice, I breathe easier and started feeling better.It a little louder than some but if you dont like the noise, turn down the speed to lower at night, I personally like some background noise and keep it on high.

The water last for a long time in these ones that use these wicks.There is only one downfall, mine is about a month old and the filter is getting pretty nasty already, although I admit my room is a dusty place and I've been using tap water.Apparently if you use those cheap 1 gallon Distilled waters the filter wont get all dirty or smelly as easily, as distilled water is pure, and tap water well....no matter what you think isn't ;).

PRO:Humidifies room with few refills and doesn't soak room.
CONS:The filter gets moldy/dirty pretty quick.

I guess I am ""lucky"" in that I just happened to get a cold when I got my nasal strips. I thought I'd like that the nasal strips where made with Vicks but it didn't seem to be enough to make a huge difference. But then again I was REALLY stuffed up. Using regular Vicks Vapor Rub gave me more relief. I think that for mild congestion this product might be more beneficial.

I was just getting over a cold when I received these and was surprised at how well they worked. I'd definitely recommend this product. They didn't work as well as a nasal spray but they did work better than oral decongestants. They feel a little strange stuck on your nose but not too uncomfortable.

DO NOT PUT IN DISHWASHER!
The description lists that the discs are dishwasher-safe. I ASSURE YOU THEY ARE NOT! My discs look more like abstract art than function now. Until then I think this worked well, as the air and my nose and throat did not seem dry in the morning when I woke up. I think it's worth the money, just be careful with it. Be prepared to add water daily to it, however (which is possibly a good sign if your air is as dry as mine). The resevoir isn't very big. I haven't used any other similar machines, so I honestly don't know how it compares to others in water resevoir size. WIsh it was a little bigger though.

Works as promised, but not for bedroom use
It does a good job as a humidifier, and does pull large dust particles from the air (definitely not a hepa filter by any means).Easy to clean, which should be done often.Interesting and simple design, but the inverted water bottle is a bit awkward to fill and load.One major downside is that every few hours the water bottle refills the water dish.It is a loud bubbling sound like the water cooler at work.It wakes me up at least once every night.Also the continuous noise from the unit is not the soothing "white noise" of a traditional humidifier.It is more mechanical, especially when the water level gets low.

Too noisy for a bedroom
I like the idea behind the venta humidifiers but I did not like their price.I bought two of these to use in my childrens room.They do a great job at humidifying but they have two drawbacks - they are too noisy to sleep with and they are VERY large.

I plan to order a venta to try and use these in larger rooms.

Great Buy Accurate!!!
This thermometer works great for the whole family, it really does read your temp in 1 second! If i try it in the other ear, it gives the exact same reading! A lot of things people complained about with other ear thermomoeters I have not encountered with this one. However my baby is not born yet so I can see it might be challenging to get it in the correct position in a tiny ear. I did not buy one with my first baby because the technology was kindof new on the market and there were a lot of bad reviews and they were more expensive then. It works great on my 4 year old and my husband and myself. It does not require probe covers which is a great money saver, I just use alcohol wipes that come individually wrapped (by Curad)$2.99 for 200. There are some cheaper ones on the market but even the $40+ ones have an average rating of 2 or 3 stars and people still have many negative things to say about them.

I definately reccomend this product.

I love that it doesn't require probe covers, i have box of alcohol swabs (by Curad), which are very inexpensive and they work great for cleaning the probe after every use. Also this is very small and lightweight and it really does read the temp in 1 second. You need to follow the directions because when I first tried it, it said 101 and then I looked at the directions again and tried again and got a normal reading, you need to press the button, insert in the ear, then release the button while its in the ear, its done in an instant. my 4 year old thinks its very neat and asked for her temp to be taken as soon as she saw it, but I really bought it for the baby on the way, and I tried it on myself, its really great for the whole family especially babies as my old thermometer seemed to take forever to get done and when your kid is sick and squirmy you end up having to start over sometimes. I don't know how the performance compares to other ear scanning devices, I never bought one before because they all seemed to have bad reviews, they sounded difficult to operate correctly and required probe covers. But I would definately reccomend trying it out when your child isn't sick to make sure its accurate and you get the hang of it before you really need it. ... Read more
