Not effective as a humidifier
I bought two of these humidifiers for my daughters' rooms, which are fairly small.I liked the size of this model as well as the fact that it didn't have a filter that would need replacing.I returned both of them soon after receiving them.They blew a mist of water about six inches straight up, which proceeded to fall back down, drenching the humidifier as well as whatever surface I put it on.It was not effective at increasing the humidity in the room at all.Plus, on the lowest setting it only lasted for about 6-7 hours.I wouldn't recommend this humidifier to anybody.

Excellent
I just moved into a new place.My spare bathroom had a smell in it that I could not figure out for weeks.I reached out and bought this breezer for that reason and the next day the smell was absolutely gone.I think it was from an awefull smelling paint etc....I can't believe it got rid of the smell.I would recommend this product to sustain that fresh smell and get air clean where needed.It works.

Works well... up to a certain limit.
I basically used it instead of a Quadra to clean up household dust, cat litter dust, odors, and smoke from a couple smokers.(The blades got coated in tan gunk from pipe smoke that I'm glad didn't end up in my lungs.)I moved it from room to room.It worked great for about a year and a half before the poor thing just gave out.The light worked, but it stopped producing a "breeze."Since then, everything in the house has become coated in a layer of dust, and I frequently have bouts of sneezing in the morning.Time to get a new one.

safe air purifier
Been using one for last 3 years. Abselutely no safety problems. Good, efficient air purifier. plus, bathroom cleaner actually does work. No need to throw it away.

Save on bathroom freshener
I purchased my product through Sharper Image Outlet with was about the same price on this website. For my Manhattan bathroom it seems to work pretty well in the bathroom. The collection rods also pick up a good amount of that black soot that is in the air and that's only after a week. I use the larger quadra one for my apartment and it is near the cat litter too. Also does an excellent job cleanser the air of odors and debris. However, if you are a smoker or light candles you'll need to clean it much more frequently. Also cleaning it at least in Manhattan you'll need to use some soap and water or Windex.

Don't buy this !!!!!!!
I recently purchased 2 ionic breeze quadra's which came with this product for free.I had them for 1 week and returned them all, but they let me keep this thing (which i threw away after leaving the sharper image store).I was sucked in by the fancy TV commercials and hype, but don't let it happen to you.Not only has this product been tested and proven to be useless as an air purifier.It releases ozone into the air (which the manual describes as a clean mountain air smell), though it claims to be a "safe" amount of this toxic gas that it produces. some consumer reports show that in certain cases it releases more than they indicate even when used as directed.

Knocked me out, but wow, what a great job!
I've been suffering from an on and off fly/cold/something or other for nearly a week now, with coughing, aches, and a fever. Unfortunately, lacking insurance, I didn't have a chance to go to the doctor, and relied on cogh drops, aspirin, vitamin C, and lots of liquids.

None really helped until I bought some NyQuil last night. I took two capsules at 11PM last night, and just woke up at 12:30 PM *THE NEXT DAY* Yes, that's thirteen and a half hours later! Wow, NyQuil knocked me out!

Great Buy!!!!
I bought this about a half a year ago and have never looked back; This was one of the greatest purchasers I have made. I am from the south were it is dusty, hot, and muggy. This porduct has faced the toughest conditions and has come out victorious on the end. i dont know why other people have given this a bad review. This dehumidifer is much quieter than most others and most importantly, doe swhat its supposed to . not to mention this classy design. It fits easily into any room in my house and i serves many purposes. I reccomend this to any especially with pets or allergies.

Looks nice but poor quality control
The first DeLonghi 30-pint unit I received from Amazon looked great but did not function properly; the cooling unit that removes water from the air didn't work.I returned the unit for an exchange.(Amazon gets five stars for their excellent return process).The second unit arrived in good condition and worked for about 2 minutes before the compressor in the cooling unit stopped, never to start again.I tested the unit in an 80 degree bathroom at 100 percent humidity and it did not remove a drop of water from the air.The literature with the unit does not provide any help on this type of malfunction, but does give a Web site address (www.delonghi.com).The Web site had great graphics but no useful information.A note to the company asking if there was any way to solve the problem elicited a recommendation to return the unit.

The DDH30 dehumidifier appears well-made in other respects, but clearly there is a quality control problem with the refrigeration unit, or it is easily damaged during shipment.It appears impossible for a homeowner to open the unit to do any minor repairs, so the only alternative is to return units that don't work.An electrical schematic is located behind the removable water bucket, but isn't very helpful because there isn't any easy way to access the unit's innards.I notice that the controls for the DDH30 are more primitive than the larger models.Perhaps those more sophisticated units are more reliable, but I'm not taking the chance...

Life Saver
Throughout my short life I have been the surviver of some of the most devestating viruses known to man. When I was six years old I contracted The Bubonic plauge when visiting Paris. This terrible virus scared my body, and rendered myleft arm and leg useless, but I was fortunate enough to have lived through the ordeal. The second virus I contracted was Ebola, I was 22 and on a safari in the Congo.Equally as gruesome, this virus was fought with antidotes. After living through this terrible chapter of my life, i decided to install Mr. Misty in my house. I was treated to refreshing showers, and my house was constantly humidified. Instalation was a breeze with my super-dee-duper manual. It helped me install it without any fire or gas leaks, and provided an intersting read that took my mind off of all the suffering I had been through. The third and final(knock on wood) virus that I contracted ravaged my body last year on a visit to Mongolia. There was no cure available, but it is my belief that Mr. Misty and his Mistycal powers cured me. Thanks for keeping my house comfortable, and my life safe. Great product, amazing manual, unbeatable value. A must buy for a survivor of the Bubonic Plague, or anyone that hates dry air.

Very Happy with Mr. Misty
My warm mist humidifier broke 2 weeks ago, and I was searching for a new humidifier, and luckly I found Mr. Misty.
I am a lazy person when it comes to house chores, and with my old humidifier, I had to refill the 2 gallon water tank every day, and I had to remove lime stone deposits with a knife and a little hammer every 3~4 weeks.and, it didn't humidify all ofmy house... it felt a little dry... And, it totally broke after 3 years of usage. Now with Mr. Misty, I don't have to do all that. also, I am surprised that Mr. Misty did raise the humidity all around my house.(1700 sqf with loft).and actually, it worked much better than my warm mist humidifier... My old humidifier pumped in about 2 gallons of water per day, and I think Mr. Misty is pumping out 4... I didn't measure it, but it feels more humid than before. RH is about 45 in my house.
Only problems I found are...
1. hissing noise: it kinda bugs me a little... it makes that sound during its operation; my bath tub focet is a kind that you can't control water flow amount; it always operates at full. maybe that the problem, not Mr. Misty.. I will work on that.
2. wet around bath tub: I close my shower curtain half way, and placed a towel next to the tub, and adjusted Mr. Misty a bit so that it heads inward.now it's ok!
It's a great concept and I don't have to refill, clean, and use electricity; I live in a town house, and i don't pay for the water usage

Mr. Misty Works Great After a Little Tweak
We were looking for a humidifier that would be the most hands-off and low maintenance (no cleaning or refilling tank) and found Mr. Misty. Although the comments at Amazon ran the gamut from "didn't work" to "worked wonderfully," based on the latter we gave it a try. Our home is about 1200 square feet with a centrally located second bathroom. It has a full bath with a shower in it. By itself Mr. Misty caused drops of water on the rim of the bath tub and some on the floor. We closed the shower curtain until there was 12 inches of opening at the far end from the shower head and then pointed a small fan at that opening from 5 feet away. This works great. No more moisture on the floor. Our relative humidity went from around 30% without Mr. Misty to 45% with Mr. Misty. Also, we are able to lower the thermostat and still be comfortable because of more moisture in the air. Lowering the thermostat will lower heating bills and lower temperatures increase the relative humidity; two positive effects. From what I can determine on the Internet, ideal relative humidity is around 45%.

This item has changed our lives
We live in a fairly small house (about 750 sq. ft. upstairs) with 4 bedrooms and one bathroom in the hallway. It is an old house with hot water radiators and in the winter it gets very dry. My hands are like sanpaper for about 5 months out of the year to the point that I can't put on a silk tie without shredding the material.

We bought Mr. Misty two winters ago (this will be our third). Our hygrometer goes up in our bedroom (acroos the hall from the bathroom) between 17 and 22% with Mr. Misty on.

Our bathroom does not get particularly wet (if you have good insulation in your walls and a heat source, such as a radiator, condensation should not be a problem). In fact I love going into the bathroom in the morning after it's been on all night to get that fresh "botanical gardens rainforest" experience.

Our bathroom rug used to get a little damp, but nothing more (and actually, much less) than after someone showers. Now I just pull the shower curtain about 1/3 to 1/2 way closed.

Considering that we do not have to change those GROSS and EXPENSIVE filters all the time, not to mention de-limeing and constantly refilling and adding costly chemicals to the electronic humidifiers THIS PRODUCT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY (or two)in water it might cost per day. If you have a bigger house try using two. It is so much better than the machines.

Dampened bathroom and nearby carpet, but not rest of house
I like the concept of the Mr. Misty, and suffer from lots of static shock and dry everything here in the desert. So, I gave the he/she a chance, and then returned it a week or so later. I wasn't happy with how wet everything became in the bathroom area -- the ceiling and walls were damp, bathtub full of water droplets, and dampened carpet just outside the bathroom. On my 1600 square foot home, Mr. Misty had little to no chance of making improvements outside the master bedroom, it just created a very lopsided change in humidity. So, back to the retailer he/she went.

Mom on busy street
I bought this humidifier for my 5 month old's room to help not only with adding moisture to our dry home, but to help drown out the noises of the busy street we live on as well as the sounds from within our house. It has made a world of difference! He has slept so well since I bought this.It works great.The high setting does have a louder hum, but I sleep in his room sometimes and have no problem getting to sleep. The only down side is having to buy filters.The cheapest I've found are $8.20 + shipping each and we need to probably buy a new one every 1-2 months.Great purchase otherwise!

Does the job, but quite loud.
I spent a lot of time in the store looking over humidifiers, and finally decided on the Holmes.I like the design and features.The good point is it works very well at humidifying a small room.The bad is that it is VERY noisy.There's no way you could have it on high - it sounds like a jet engine.On low it is still quite loud.I have it in my son's room, and the white noise actually helps him sleep, but I would never be able to have it in my own room.If the noise isn't an issue, then this is a great humidifier, but I believe most people would prefer a quieter unit.

Simply too loud.
I have had this unit for one week. I am returning it tomorrow because it is ridiculously loud. Forget sleeping--I can barely hear the TV over it! If noise is not an issue, then this item might still be a good deal for you. I paid $24.99, which I thought was a good price for it. The positives are that it holds 2.5 gallons, instead of the usual 2 gallons in this price range, and it has a built-in moniter to let you know when it's time to change the filter. It says it can run for 24 hours without having to refill the water. I did not test this aspect, as I only run it while I sleep (or at least that's my goal). Another negative is that it has a sticker attached that says to call an 800 number before using. Thinking it might be a safety issue, I called. It automatically records the number--with registered name--and address you call from and gives you a voice response sales pitch. That ticked me off. I just bought a Honeywell warm mist unit today. Poor customer service
I bought two of the air purifiers even though I heard Oreck had terrible customer service.All I wanted was the serial number and they kept me on hold for 45 minutes and then I just gave up.I called again and held for 20 minutes and then gave up again.I tried sending an e-mail and still haven't heard a reply after a week.

Also, doesn't help if you have allergies...I still wake up sneezing every morning even though the unit is in our bedroom.I bought two and think it was a waste of money.

Please don't waste your money!
I wish we can give this 0 stars, but 1 was the lowest it can go.We bought 2 Oreck XL air cleaners a year ago direct and recently made our last payment.We feel compelled to share our experiences with your units. We are VERY disappointed with them! They are very ineffective if at all.Yes, there are some dust particles that were trapped in the fins, but they are no more than what would be on a $20 circular table fan ... no surprise since you have a rotating fan unit in the Oreck XL.One of our relatives has Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze. While that's probably ineffective as well based on what we've read, at least they can and are returning their's after 3 years for their money back, since Sharper Image has a LIFETIME satisfaction guarantee.Oreck only has a 90 day moneyback guarantee.We will be putting our 2 units on Ebay soon, with the hopes of recouping some of our money.Product marketing at its worst!

secret upkeep costs, bad customer service
our household bought 2 of these and turns out they do need replaceable filters.these are charcoal filters the company says you don't need but if they don't clean the air with out them then I think you need them. Lots of up keep cost, have to buy a special cell cleaner from them too that isn't cheap. these worked at first but after a year, I don't think they do anything.and the worst thing is we're still makeing payments.don't do it.

Not as effective as advertised.
I bought 4 of these units from a local Oreck store.We live in a new neighborhood with lots of construction going on.Dust is a big problem.We also have 2 dogs that seem to shed year round.Recently our HEPA filters needed changing of the filtering element so I thought we'd give the Oreck Signature serries a try.Based on one week of usage:

Construction quality is good with 3 exceptions.One, the swichtes are chrome plated plastic and wobbles.I'm sure with time, the chrome with rub out (like those old TV knobs).Two, the prefilters are real thin.I think if we wash it a few times, it will fall apart.Three, the collection plates have thin wires which runs the width.They look real fragile (the sales lady cringed and asked my not to touch them on the display models).You're not supposed to wipe the plates down like the Ionic Breezes.They recommend a specific foaming solution.

In actual use, the performance is truly disappointing. My wife and I notices that our allergy worsened after changing to these machines.The filtration efficiency is no where near that of a HEPA machine.I think that this is because of it's filtering principle.These machines' main filtration mechanism depends on the generation of a static charge on adjacent dust particles, which would cause it to stick to the metallic collection plates.This works well if air flow is really slow (as in the Ionic Breeze).However, in such a small machine, when you turn the fan on medium or high, air passes through the collection plates at such high velocity that it simply does not fall onto the collection plates.So these machines actually do a better filtering job at its silent setting.When turned on medium or high, the only thing that really does the filtering is the prefilter.Try it for yourself.This is counter intuitive, since most other filters do a better job at high flow rates.I guess if you leave it on siltent all the time, eventually the pollutants will get filtered.I think this is why other users find it effective.A nice thing about these machines is that you can turn the ionizer function on and off.Good thing since turning it on emits ozone, which may not be the best thing for your health.

In terms of consumables, there are the charcoal filters that needs replacement every 3 months or so, and the foam cleaner.The charcoal only filters odor, so if you odor is not a problem, you don't need to replace the charcoal.

In summary, these are reasonaby built machines that just is not as effective as a HEPA filter.They are better than nothing, and I think that's why most people think that they are effective.I don't dispute that they work, because they do.They simply work at an incredibly inefficient rate.If you value extreme quietness, and are willing to leave these on all the time, these may be right for you.Otherwise save your money and buy a HEPA machine.I returned all 4, the Oreck folks are great at taking things back.

NO MORE HEADACHES

Over time, any household room can get stuffy and dank, especially in the colder months, when windows stay shut for months on end. Anyone with respiratory allergies knows how that stuffiness, which is the result of an increase in airborne particles, can affect the mere act of breathing. Not to mention the odors. The Holmes Odor Grabber Plus can scrub those particles out of the air with a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. Particles of dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, and even smoke larger than 2 microns are caught in the filters tiny screens. And there's an ionizing function that helps even smaller motes clump together, so they're big enough to get filtered out.

The Odor Grabber Plus is designed for a 70-square-foot room, or about 7 by 10 feet. The unit is a compact trapezoid of ivory plastic less than 9 inches tall, easy to place in an unobtrusive corner of the room. There are two control knobs, each with an indicator light--one for the two power settings, and one to turn the ionizer on or off. A manually adjusted dial knob marked with the calendar months serves as a reminder for when the filter will need changing. One replacement filter is included.

The outside of the unit can be cleaned with a damp cloth. The top air inlet grill can be washed in hot soapy water (not dishwasher-safe); it should be completely dry before being replaced on the unit. Great filter, but...
This small filter did a great job taking care of a litterbox dust and odor problem. It's fairly inexpensive, but keep in mind that the filter is only something like 6" x 4" so it has to be replaced fairly often.
Two replacement filters are required: the HEPA filter ref. HAPF22PDQ-U, and the carbon pre-filter, ref. HAPF220. UnfortunatelyAmazon no longer carries the HAPF220, so keep that in mind when making your purchase decision. Had I known I would have picked a model for which Amazon carries replacement filters!

Big, but good.
I realized that I had a terrible dust problem in my office, so I bought this thing.

So far I have had it for a couple of days, and it has a noticeable amount of dust on the odor grabber part, so it surely is doing something.
When I opened the box, I was amazed of the sheer size of the thing! Its much bigger than I would ever have expected!
When turned on its lowest setting its very quiet but I noticed when turned on its 2nd and highest setting I was overwhelmed with the noise. Well after having it on for awhile I am used to the noise it makes, I guess its not really that bad.

Well worth your $30 or so American dollars...

Pros: Not too terribly loud, it works...

Cons: The filters cost more than a drunk hooker on a Monday at 12:00AM.....$15+ (a piece)! oh my, well deal with it.

I purchased the Holmes Odor Grabber simply because it was small and [inexpensive]. I couldn't be more pleased with it. This little unit lives up to it's name. It works amazingly well next to a kitty litter box. Reducing not only the odor but also the dust around the kitty litter box and in the air. Being able to purchase the inexpensive replacement filters at Amazon.com is a plus.
