Wish it worked
I can already tell this will be a great product - My 3 year old took to it like a duck to water and I (will) get the satisfaction of a much more reliable temp than axillary, now that she refuses a rectal temp.

However, product did not work out of the box and I wasted lots of time and energy trying to find a replacement battery (seemed like that SHOULD be easier than sending it back and waiting for a new one.)However, the part # doesn't seem to exist in the battery section and now (3 days after receipt and daughter's illness has passed) I am left to try the suggestion of another poster - using a battery that does exist.Too bad I cannot give it more stars, but this has been a VERY frustrating start.

Great Thermometer...until battery dies
The only reason I didn't give this product 5 stars is because I cannot find a replacement battery to save my life, even after contacting Timex and the MedLLC folks.

I used this as a BBT thermometer and the curved shape made it very easy to lay back down on my pillow while it was taking my temperature.The large digital readout with IndiGlo light makes it easy to read a temp in the dark or without your glasses on.

I may break down and just buy another one instead of trying to find the battery.It is well worth the investment! ... Read more

Great Job
I bought it yeterday. We do lots of Indian cooking with lots of smoke. This guy has significantly reduced the smoke and odor.
Every one at home can feel the difference.
I al planning to buy more filters from Hamilton.

Excellent for the kitchen
This product is excellent in the kitchen. We cook a lot of indian food and this product is a 'match made in heaven' for this type of odor-intensive cooking. nowadays, we even fry fish and this takes care of all the odor. Havent had to replace filter until now. It would have been great if Hamilton bundled a free filter along with the machine.

I bought one to counter the stench of the litter box used by 2 cats.The purifier was a miracle worker for the first week operating on "whisper mode", so I bought a second one for my office, since my dog comes to work every day and adds his smell to the place.After the first week, the one by the cat litter box stopped being effective.I opened it and it was pretty choked with dust, so i cleaned it out as best as I could and put it back.It doesn't seem to work like it did the first few days any more.I could try replacing the filter, but the cost would add up quick if I have to replace them once a week!Yikes!I'd have to say it worked so great to start with that I'll stick it out a while longer, but overall it hasn't lived up to its full billing.In terms of "whisper mode", the sound level of the fan is less than an window A/C, but more than a computer fan...

This product works great
ok - here goes.We moved apartments,and our new apt has one of those exhausts which are under a microwave mounted over the stove.
So the odours when cooking on the front parts of the range enter the room!Yuck! (And this apt complex is a fancy one :( )
Plus - we cook a lot of Indian ,Italian food,and bake stuff.
So - its an odor fest - yuck!!I was not sure,reading some of these reviews,but I bought one ($20 - what did I have to lose)
and I have a elec. socket right next to the cooking range.

Wow! Odors clear up really well - the odors have been cut by 75% (and that's a lot when making sauces and curries)
then,after cooking (we set it to quick clean during cooking),and clean up is done,we keep it all night / all day,on whisper clean ,and the next day-all odors gone!
I loved it ,and bought 2 more for some more rooms of my apt
I guess the trick is to keep it close to the source of odors
it's compact,works wonderfully,and easy to clean/replace filters,and cheap!

Seems small, but it's really effective
We have two.One of them runs in the bathroom all the time, and works well to eliminate the musty odor.The other is in the kitchen and while it's running all the time, it's a bit more negligable because there's a lot of air circulation.Best to keep it in a smaller area, or very close to the souce of the odor.I still find that an open bowl of arm & hammer works the best...go figure.But you should see the dust they collect...convinces me that they're doing something good.I recomend. ... Not accurate
My husband and I tried this thermometer but were very disappointed.After taking my temperature several times in a row and having a wide range of final temperatures (some were as much as 2 degrees apart), we felt that we could not trust it to give us accurate results.In comparison to our very cheap, digital, oral thermometer (which was very consistent), the forehead scanner also seemed to give lower overall readings.For the price (and the uncertainty), this thermometer is definitely not worth it.

help with temp taking
We have a thermometer similar to this one and it was a little tricky to get it working right.You do have to keep the thermometer touching your forehead as you lightly drag it across from one temple to another.Any air that enters the area with the infrared scanner will register it's temp and not yours.I hope this helps. ... Helps with a Bad Cold but the Taste is Icky!
I have used Nyquil when I had really bad colds and it worked very well and helped relieve my cold symptons so I could get a restful night's sleep but even though it works with cold symptons the mediciney taste is really quite nasty and it's not just this green colored original flavor that tastes icky because even the so called cherry flavored version has a horrible taste too. I will rate ths 3 stars for how good it helps you get some relief from your cold but I have to take points off for the taste! I can only use liquid Nyquil mixed with juice or soda and even then the taste of this liquid medicine was so strong that the juice and cola barely masked it but it was worth taking because it did help with my cold symptoms and gave me a restful sleep but if I ever get another bad cold I will have to try the Nyquil liquicaps instead because I can't take this liquid medicine form in any flavor without gagging on the horrible taste!

Best stuff on the market!
If you're sick with a cold, flu or allergies, grab this stuff and your troubles are over.We've all seen the commercials and they're really true.This stuff cures your ills, puts you to sleep, and keeps you from coughing all night.Awesome stuff, no doubt there.I particularly like it when you first swallow it that you can feel it all the way up your nose - you know it's working then!The taste isn't too bad either.But then again, I like spicy foods so I may not be the best judge.

If you have a cold - this is the stuff!
There is no better product on the market today that helps with the symtpoms of a cold.

Be prepared to sleep though - this stuff will knock you out.

Not worth the few dollars I spent on it
This thermometer has never been accurate and consistently shows temperatures under the normal 98.6 degrees. I dont trust it especially after having a really bad fever where I was sweating bullets and it showed I was at 98.2 degrees. I dug out my old glass one and it recorded me at 101.7...big discrepancy there. I would only recommend spending more money and getting a one second ear one instead.

I was very impressed with this thermometer! Most digital thermometers are hard, which makes it difficult to hold under your tongue. My daughter had no trouble holding this one under her tongue. I compared the temperature readings with that of a regular thermometer and the readings were always accurate -- a plus for a digital thermometer! I'd definitely recommend this for anyone -- especially someone with younger children.

I would recommend digital thermometers in general after trying this product, but I'm not sure this one is superior to other non-flexible models. I liked that it beeps when the reading is complete, and I didn't miss needing to flick the mercury down on a glass thermometer. However, this thermometer is unbalanced when in the mouth. The digital display is part of the rather long (2.5 inches), heavy end that tips the entire thermometer away from the mouth. Useful but beware of the dangers
This can be useful when there is congestion from inflammation, such as with colds, and for simply cleaning out dust and pollution, but please be aware that Staphylococcus aureus, the most common bacteria to be lodged in the cavity behind the nose, which causes the normal (and essential) mucus produced there to be characteristically more yellow and thicker, as it is increasingly loaded with the bacteria, absolutely thrives in a salt environment - and this product is entirely variations of salt - especially as other competing bacteria are eliminated by the salt.

A colony of Staphylococcus aureus is present in the post-nasal cavity in a large proportion of the population, just as it is present on the outer skin of almost everyone, and is virtually impossible to remove. The thickened mucus can tend to block the nose, sinuses and eustachian tubes - making the ears feel blocked, and potentially leading to infections in the ear, including the balance organs. And mucus that runs down from the rear of the nose, lubricating and protecting the throat and airway, would also be thickened and build up on the vocal cords.

Furthermore, the Staphylococcus aureus normallyfound can instead be the highly dangerous "MRSA" (which is immune to most antibiotics) that causes so many deaths to vulnerable people, such as after surgeries. That variation of Staphylococcus aureus equally thrives in salt. If you use this product watch out for these problems.

Horrible! Broke after ONE WEEK!
I bought this just one week ago. It barely worked in the first place, my room is an EXTRMELY tiny room, so I figured that a unit this size would work very well. Wrong. I have a pet mouse in here, and it still smelled even with the unit running 24/7. My allergies weren't any better after using this unit either. Then, after just one week of working (or lack there of), the motor went out! It quit blowing air, and then all it did was sit there and make a loud humming sound. I called where I got it from and they said I could send it back. I'll send it back alright, and but I will NOT be getting another one. I'll go with another brand.

Unit works well, but has it's problems.
I originally purchased my first BAP825-U from Best Buy.About 3 weeks later I had to exchange it as the oscillating motor started to make a very loud clicking sound and stopped working.The unit that replaced it worked extremely well for the past 5 months. Just recently the oscillating motor on this unit stopped working as well.The filtration is functioning just fine, however it is much more effective when the oscillating feature is working.I smoke, and started to notice the smell of smoke more in my home recently.I checked the filters and they were in dire need of replacement, however the filter change indicator light never came on.Overall, I've been very happy with this unit up until now.In my opinion, the placement of the oscillating motor is just poor engineering, and without it the unit is less effective.If you do purchase, be sure to send in your warranty card to Bionaire, which I'm currently kicking myself for not doing....

"Quiet Operation"???SURE...
I got this unit from Best buy yesterday, so don't look at this as a long-term usage review.It seems like a nice enough unit, but I chose it over the others at best Buy because I read on the box that "advanced motor and fan blade design provide for quiet operation on any speed".Um, they must have hearing impaired people testing these out in the factory, because I can't get truly "quiet operation" on any speed other than low.

I was amazed when I turned it on and could no longer hear the sound on the videogame I was playing at the time.It was on the high setting, so I switched it to the lowest setting.It was much better, but then it's also doing less for me.When on the ghigh setting, this thing sounds like you're running five microwaves at once.I expected nearly SILENT operation...perhaps even "on any speed"?This unit did not deliver what it advertised.

Overall, it's a good product, but they should not advertise "quiet operation on any speed".That's a flat-out lie!

It worked for my son!
My 4 yr old son has terrible dust mite allergies.He was ssooo congested every night and could not sleep well (he slept w/ his mouth open & snored). We tried everything suggested by the allergist:I dusted, I vacuumed, I washed bed sheets/blankets, took out the stuffed animals, used the right pillow covers and mattress covers.We tried OTC allergy medications and prescription medications.THEN we purchased this air filter for his room.Amazing ... he sleeps through the night peacefully, nasal passages clear.I'd give this air cleaner 5 stars except for the fact that there is a slight odor in his room from it (probably just because its new ... its that kind of smell) and it does tend to warm his room up slightly w/ it running all night long, so I keep our a/c turned down a bit more at night now. But for the price, I'd recommend it to anyone suffering from allergies to give it a try.

Not sure how this one works??
I bought an 825U, for my home office.(I also own two of the BAP-1175 units, which I LOVE.)The 825 looks very sleek, and fits perfectly where I need it to go.But here's my concern with it:the room air is drawn in the back, and clean air is blown out the front -- which seems to me that the unit would be blowing the room air away from itself, effectively keeping most of the room air from being drawn into the filter.(??)The natural spot for this tower design is in a corner, or next to a desk or bookshelf.This puts the intake against the wall, where it doesn't seem to me that it could do very much intaking.Especially if the fans are blowing all the air away from the unit.I called Bionaire, and while they are consistently friendly and helpful, the only suggestion they could give was to place the unit more toward the center of a room.Obviously, that's rarely an option for most people.Maybe I'm thinking too much about all this, but it's something I'd love to get more information on.For now, I returned the 825, and got a second 1175.It takes up more space than the tower, but is a more effective purifying unit in my consumer-level opinion.
