these are terrific
I use the whole Natracare line, it's all natural except for the plastic backings, and they're great.I used to have horrid infections all the time and when I switched to organic pads and tampons the breakouts and recurrent yeast infections almost stopped completely.I had one yeastie last year from running round in a damp swimsuit (my own fault), before I used to have a couple a month, one usually started right after my period.They're a bit more expensive but for me, the money I saved on creams and other OTC medications and the relief from misery more than made up for it.I change the pads about as often as I used to change commercial ones, the tampons I actually change less, they seem to be more absorbent.I also highly recommend these for the lochia flow after childbirth, (the pads, that is) a great time to pamper your poor battered self with the softest pads around.The covers really are super soft!

Safer, greener and comfortable disposable pads.
I used to use pads when I was in my early teens as backup for tampons, prior to discovering menstrual cups, I used commercial pads that were not only uncomfortable but often resulted in rashes on my pantyline or yeast infections.

I recently took in a teen girl who wore commercial pads and had a far worse allergic reaction to her pads, so I decided to pick up a pack of these to try to sooth her irritation until I could order her a menstrual cup of her own - she approved of these two options over commercial pads!

For the sake of experimentation I tried these pads myself, I had known about them for quite some time and been recommending them for women who had problems with commercial pads but whom where not yet ready to try cloth or homemade pads, so I thought it was about time I tried for myself:

Packing, a cardboard box rather than the plastic wrapping you get on a lot of pads, this made it easier to open and more environmentally friendly (providing you recycle), although the inner wrapping around the pads themselves are still plastic for hygiene reasons. The packing makes it a bit bulky to fit in your shopping bag, but otherwise it's better than the plastics.
All in all the pads themselves contain less synthetics and chemicals so far less of an environmental concern through manufacturing and disposal.

Comfort, they are no more bulky than commercial pads, if anything they feel less bulky because they don't have so many layers to them. They are a lot more comfortable than commercial pads because they are all cotton, except for their plastic backing to prevent leaks. So your genital area (for lack of a better word thats deemed 'acceptable') gets more chance to 'breath' without the synthetics and because of this it also means less chance of developing a yeast infection or irritation if you are prone to either using pads.
They do have the plastic backing, but it's not as obvious as with commercial pads, so you don't get the plastic backing ribbing against the skin around where your panty line is.

Health, of course as already mentioned because they aren't made from as many synthetic materials they allow for more air to get to your vagina, but they also contain no bleach or chemicals, which means again, less chance of infection as without chemicals there is less chance of the pads interfering with your genital area (for lack of a better word thats deemed 'acceptable') natural bacteria and yeast.

Reliability, as I'm a cup user I'm used to only having to go to the bathroom to deal with my period two to three times a day, so here is where I become a little bias as pads in general have to be changed too often for me to really give them a good review here.
They are reliable as far as pads go, a major difference between organic pads and commercial pads is that organic pads do not have the gel center, this is a definite good point given as the gel center can be a health concern, however I do feel that because of this the organic pads do need to be changed more often than commercial pads - given the health concerns, also given as pads have to be changed often anyway then this is really not that big of a concern when you weigh up the pro's and con's.
One thing that really did bother me though is that although these have wings to keep them in place the sticky backing on the wings fails quite often which means generally they don't hold up too great if you are doing a lot of moving about or your in bed asleep (or doing whatever else!).

Value for money, they can be a little bit more expensive than commercial pads, particularly as the commercial pad manufacturers seem to be lowering their prices to try and stay in competition with the fact women are starting to learn about all 16+ options and realising that commercial pads are not worth the money given all their down points. Really it depends on where you buy them from, all things considered the price difference isn't that bad.

Overall I can't say I liked these pads, but that is coming from a menstrual cup user, for pad users I think these are very good for someone who wants to use disposable pads over homemade pads, cloth pads or padded underwear, yet who still wants to avoid the chemicals and synthetics of commercial pads for the sake of health and the environment. They fail slightly in that they are not as absorbent as commercial pads, however they do make up for this in the fact that they are more comfortable.

I recommended these to women before using them and I do still recommend them to women now I have tried them - if you care about your health and the environment but require something disposable then these are recommended.

Natracare do have a very good reputation and for good reason, they were some of the first health and environmentally friendly disposable menstrual products and they have stood the test of time because of that. ... Read more

Well-performing, healthier alternative
Having researched the issue of possible dioxins in tampons, and knowing the hazards of pesticide exposure over years, I feel a lot better about using the Organic Essentials tampons compared to conventional tampons.Here's why I use them:

* They're non-chlorine bleached.The chlorine bleaching process of cotton and rayon can result of small amounts (generally trace amounts) of dioxin in the product.Dioxin was one of the chemicals in the defoliant Agent Orange which wreaked havoc on people's health in the Vietnam War.Among other things, dioxin suppresses the immune system.The optimal amount of dioxin in one's body is zero.I'd rather not take my chances with the possibility of even trace amounts of dioxin when a good alternative is available.
* They cotton in them is 100% certified organically grown in the U.S.A.Unless a tampon specifically says organically grown, the cotton in them was grown using pesticides.Cotton is a heavily pesticided product.Given the relationship between pesticides and cancers, nervous system disorders, etc., I much prefer a tampon without the possibility of pesticides.
* Rayon-free.Rayon makes tampons more absorbable, which is a mixed blessing.Microbiologist Philip M. Tierno discovered in the early 1980s that highly absorbent tampons are associated with the rare but dangerous and sometimes lethal disease, Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).TSS syndrome is on the increase, and in a January 2005 Seattle Times article, Dr. Tierno blames this on the re-introduction of more highly absorbable tampons.A couple studies of rayon vs. cotton in petrie dishes find that neither substance is more conducive to growing staph aureus bacteria, but in a woman's body, there are several theories (which I won't discuss here) as to why rayon-containing tampons can increase the chances of TSS.One-hundred percent cotton tampons have not been associated with TSS.

As for the Organic Essentials tampons themselves, they look, feel, and are identically equal to use as the o.b. brand non-applicator tampons of the same absorbency.I've never had any leakage problems using the Organic Essentials.However, I've heard that when saturated, 100% cotton tampons are more likely to leak than tampons containing rayon.So it's important to change these before you absolutely have to.

douches are EXTREAMLY importent for vaginal health
I am an OB/GYN and Douches are extreamly importent for women's health. The summers eve solutions are very mild and cleanse well they are second only to a 2 quart bag douche. I have been in the medical profesion for 10 years and I advise all my patients to douche once a week this is very importent for women 13-45. Douches are good for vaginal health and eliminate unpleasent odor.

Do not douche
If you don't know it by now douching is not a good idea, douching should only be done if your doctor tells you to do so and then only with a prescribed douche or natural douches.
Douching increases the risk of vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis by introducing foreign chemicals into the vagina, messing up the natural PH and in turn allowing the 'negative' bacteria to take over - thus causing bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial vaginosis symptoms include excessive discharge and a `fishy' smell, douching will make you less hygienic rather than more so, the vagina is self-cleaning and when left to do it's job it will keep good vaginal health and keep itself clean and pleasant smelling.
On top of introducing new chemicals into your vagina this product contains fragrance, which in itself could contain numerous harmful chemicals, which may well leave bad vaginal odour as the least of your problems.
If you are experiencing abnormal vaginal discharge consult a doctor, do not make the situation worse by using a douche, anything else is natural and should be allowed to carry on as normal as part of good vaginal health. ... Read more

Eve's bad ideas...
As with all other advertised 'Feminine Deodorant' this is not a good product, nothing chemical should go near your vulva or vagina.
As well as irritation this product can be likely to affect vaginal PH, increasing risk of infections such as bacterial vaginosis - which will make any unnatural vaginal smells worse.
Good vaginal health and hygiene insures no vaginal odour other than the natural scents of a happy healthy vagina. Chemicals should never come in contact with the vagina, this will make things worse.
Eve seems to only make products for 'feminine hygiene', yet these same products ALL seem to be to encourage bad vaginal health, and so in turn bad feminine hygiene, which to me puts a big question mark on how and why they are still around. ... Read more

These are excellent in the comfort arena... meaning you can't feel them, and the applicator is easy to use.

The less than perfect rating is for the absorbency compared to the other models with cardboard applicators. While not as easy to use, the tampons with the cardboard applicators have more absorbency - probably because they are all cotton - these puppies are part rayon. ... Read more

This is an excellent feminine protection product
This is an excellent feminine protection product. Not only do I love the wings, but I also appreciated the bigger "count" package, which gave it the edge in my book. I was very happy with the product and would certainly recommend it!

I have tried many different brands of maxi pads, but Always pads are simply the best. Their invention, the "dry-weave" material, magically funnelsmoisture away from you.Always introduced "wings" which are now copied by other companies, calling them "tabs" or other names that are just as lame in function as in title.

There are also channels in the pad to further facillitate moving moisture away from you.

These "overnight" pads are longer, so you don't have to link two pads together while you're sleeping. They are simply the best.

Great Product!
These are my first tampons, and I have to say they did a good job.I was nervous at first...being used to seeing the bulky regular sized tampons.But when I used these I realized how easy it was.When I wore pads at school, i had to change them every two periods (45 minute periods), but now I only have to change at lunch.The is one con to this product, though, there is some discomfort when I remove them.And I know that is how it is with every tampon since I have a light flow and they don't make light tampons, but the pain wasn't bad enough to make me stop using them.I highly reccomend them to first timers! ...
