as good as waxing, but not for bikini line
I used to use wax strips to wax my legs, which were relatively fast and easy. Until I found my SilkEpil. The first time I used it I didn't even try it with the head which supposedly makes it less painful, because I am used to waxing. I was a little shocked by the pain at first, but quickly got used to it, and by the end of the session it was more like a warm sensation with no pain. I then tried it on my bikini line with the head to reduce pain. I have since decided never to try it again. Waxing is equally painful, but lasts half-a-second, where this takes 5 minutes to do a couple square inches. Very uncomfortable, I didn't even finish. However, it also comes with a shaver head which is very convenient. (you can trim your bikini hair to half a centimeter) I did both of my lower legs in 20 minutes on the first time, and have been quicker since. It also takes only a couple minutes to clean it. WELL WORTH THE MONEY. I was spending much more for the wax strips. (which are about 6 bucks per waxing, which is a fraction of the cost for professional waxing). Another benefit to this over waxing is that the hair doesn't have to be as long for it to be effective. Which is a major perk to my husband, because I don't have to go as long with gorilla legs.

First time buyer
If you are a first time buyer/user, do read a sample of reviews - it will help a lot in the decision making process. I thank everybody who have contributed their reviews, as it helped me make my decision. As for the product, this is the perfect thing to use when in between the waxing stages. If you are used to waxing, there is no pain. I have been waxing for the past 5 years and the pain was no more then what I experience while waxing. However, if you have never waxed before you will feel a bit of a prick and redness. Lower legs are definitely much easier to do than the upper legs - but hold you skin taut and you will be fine. The biggest challenge is figuring out how fast to move the epilator - initially I ended up breaking my hair rather than pulling it out. I definitely recommend waxing before using this product. This way you are only dealing with so much hair at a time.

The best epilator
After reading reviews and wanting a hair removal system that I could use on my bikini line, underarms and legs without shaving or going to the salon for waxing, I purchased this item yesterday. Beacuse I had already shaved my legs before purchasing, I was unable to test it on my legs, but I did do it on my bikini line. I have very course dark hair on my bikini area and I have been shaving for a few weeks because I have been taking my 7 month old daughter to waterbabies classes. I put a cold ice pack on the area before starting off about 30-40 seconds and then I started. My area was already short due to last weeks shaving. As I went over the bikini area I was surprised at how little pain their was. It was like a litte pinch, but it subsided as I went along. Now the area is smooth excpet for some ingrown hairs I had to take out with tweezers because of the shaving. The after effect was redness and the feeling I just had a waxing. No pain or anything. I have tried other epilators in the past and they all went back. This one I am keeping. I will have to try it on my legs and underarms when the hair begins to grow back from shaving. This is fantastic. All ladies should try it. Just remember, in the bikini area, make sure you use the trimmier attachment to make he hairs less dense. Also try the ice if you are very sensitive to pain. I will update my review in a couple of weeks when I get to try my legs.

My New Best Friend!
This item has really been a Godsend for me, I cannot praise it enough. It has given me the freedom to be able to go on vacation and wear a bikini without having to spend 45 mins in the bathroom shaving every other day, I can go to the closet and pick out a skirt or sleeveless top without having to worry that I did not shave my legs or underarms. I can be with my partner at anytime without worrying about the stubble appearing on my legs.

I honestly dont know why I did not buy this before, I think it is because my mother used to have an ancient epilator that I used once and never tried again due to the incredible pain and the fact that it barely removed any hairs.

I got to the point of being so sick of shaving every day for 15 years, I read the reveiws saying the the epilators have come a long way and and decided to try it again. The first time you use it it is very important to grit your teeth and just go for it, it hurts but you must do it, do all of the areas you usually shave including underarms and bikini line. It is true that the Braun makes epilating the knees pretty impossible but that is the only downside, it is an excellent machine, and removes 100% of hairs that are not to short for it to grasp. The hair only needs to be about 2mm for the Braun to be able to pull it. The pain releiving head really helps also, it is much like when the nurse scratches your arm prior to taking blood, it kind of very lightly scratches your skin as it goes along so that the hair pulling is not so painful, it sounds bad but is not, it makes it much easier to bear.

If you can grit your teeth and bear the first couple of times you epilate, it becomes much easier as you get used to it, the hair gets weaker and weaker every time you epilate and is removed easier every time. Dont forget the hair grows in cycles so you will have to epilate a few times, possibly every 3-4 days until all the hair is gone. After that it will stay relatively smooth for several weeks. When it does grow back it will come gradually and it will be thinner and softer, there will not be that stubbly feeling as when you shave. You will be able to get away with wearing skirts and having somebody touch your legs even while it is growing back through.

If you can bear the pain the first few times, and really give this product a chance you will be so thankful that you did, you will be so rewarded in ways that you probably would not even have noticed before. Just being able to jump into the pool when friends come over, or a spontaneous afternoon at the beach without the headache of having to prepare.

Really the epilator has given me a freedom I have wished for all my life, I am kicking myself that I did not buy it before. It is worth every penny. I could never find the time to go to the salon to get waxed, or justify the expense, and the home kits are awkward and messy, you have to be a double-jointed octopus to get to everywhere that needs waxing, and it would take a lot of boxes and a hell of a lot of time to do a whole 2 legs, bikini and underarms. So I have shaved all my life. There were never any other options, I thought about laser but it is too expensive, time consuming, and I have been told the hairs do grow back. Works great on husband's back.
I can't stand using this thing on my legs because it hurts way too much. But I started using it on my husband's back hair about a year ago. It quickly tears all of his back hair in less than 10 minutes. I can't say that it isn't painless for him. Actually, I kind of enjoy making him squirm. We only need to use it about once a month to keep him completely smooth. Unlike the other reviews, I can't say that his back hair has decreased or become more fine with use, but I can say that it works better than any other device we've tried and us much cleaner than sugars and waxes.

Would pay hundred of $$ for this.
This is my third epilator.I can't imagine removing hair any other way.It removes hair better than waxing..with the convenience of shaving.I use it for underarms, legs and bikini line.Yes, the first time is painful, but after that its smooth sailing.The Emjoi can remove very short hairs.If I can see a hair, I can remove it. With waxing, you have to wait until the hairs get long enough, and them you don't get 100% of them.I've been using this device for over a year, and haven't gotten the ingrown hairs that I got my older epilators.The shape is easy to hold and use.Stop shaving, stop waxing..but this product.

I LOVE IT
This hair remover is great because it removes the hair faster and with less passes over the same area.I remove hair on my legs and arms and this does it faster and neater than the other emjoy units I have.

No More Razors
Although my 1st review was basically saying how much it hurt and that after I was finally done removing the hair I was very pleased with the results. That was last night when I wrote it, but this morning is a different story. I'm feeling soreness and its still showing redness. Maybe its because I didn't put anything afterwards to soothe the skin after having hair being pulled out like that.I also wanted to mention that during the hair removal process I was bleeding from the hair being riped out. I could have been holding the machine wrong. Nonetheless which ever way I tried to hold it I still bled until I pulled out all the hairs and then it stop.I still like this product and I'm hoping that with more uses the pain will lessen with each hair removal process.

No More Razors
I received this product a few days ago. I used it for the first time tonight. First, I must say that I am not too fond of the shape and design. But I worked with it. The first place I used this Emjoi Optima was on my underarms. IT WAS PAINFUL. On a scale of 1-10 I gave the pain a 20. I had to stop and start over and over again. I didn't even have that much hair because I had shaved just a couple of days before I decided to use this product. Less hair does not necessary mean less pain.For me the pain was just unbearable. It took me1 1/2 hours just to do under both underarms. After I was done with both armpits I was VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS AND THAT THE PAIN WAS WORTH IT. IT REMOVED ALL THE HAIRS. I will never use a razor on my underarms again. This product is it for me. This was my main focus. Shaving with a razor just didn't remove all the hairs and the more I tried to shave it the more the bumps would appear from shaving. A Great Find
Ok, first off I do have to say, this product will hurt in more sensitive areas.I didn't have too much trouble using it on my legs, it didn't feel any worse than waxing.However, working on the underarms was quite painful.In order to avoid this, I used ice packs on that area first and then went ahead with the epilator.This seemed to cut down on the pain, and then it went very quickly after that.

Your legs will not be a smooth as they are with shaving, but you also won't get the same type of irritation and you won't need to remove the hair as frequently as with shaving.I just got tired of having to shave every other day in order to remain totally smooth.Waxing became too expensive and time consuming.This item is wonderful because I can do it at my own pace and on my own schedule.If you're planning on using this item though, be sure to exfoliate both before and after to help prevent ingrown hairs.I've had a few, but not as many as I'd get with waxing.

This product is an excellent choice for women with heavier hair growth who need to shave frequently.If you want that silky smooth you get from a razor, this one isn't for you.It does get even some of the shortest hairs, which is a nice bonus.You don't need to keep going over and over an area in order to get full hair removal.

Not a Great Choice for Coarse Hair
After 2 years of using the Optima I decided to give this one a try, mainly because of the cordless option. I gave it a valiant effort, but it is just not powerful enough for me: it took twice the time of the Optima to get all the hair. It would likely be a worthwhile option for someone with fine or sparse hair.

IT WORKS!!
This product is excellent.I've been waxing for years - expensive or if I do it myself takes ages and is messy.Shaving leaves my legs irritated and blotchy.This doesn't hurt mostly - just a little in the sensitive areas.It's so easy to use, fast too!

I've used Emjoy's gold epilators for years when the usual price was much higher. They sometimes caught my skin if I didn't keep it taught, some places were hard to reach with the curved head & it only seemed to get 50% of the hairs. I also had to go over the same spot over & over & over & still only get about 50% of the hairs (I'm past German/Russian/Polish which the woman are mostly fair-skinned with very dark, coarse hair.) The rechargeable battery would die out fast or not work as powerful within 6-8 months.

Braun is SOOO much better! It gets much more hairs in less times with less need to go over the same spot, LESS painful, almost nothing compared to Emjoy, it doesn't get caught on any skin. It's weird, with Emjoy, I had to hold it very tightly & push it against my skin, while Braun works better with a VERY light hold barely skimming over the skin surface.

I NEVER HAVE TO SHAVE AGAIN!

One of the best
I have had Emjoi for a couple of months...and to tell you frankly, after my first use it was sitting on the shelf. It hurts!! But two months ago I read a review which suggested of take a painkiller. Well, it worked wonderfully. In less that half-an-hour I had silky legs and I did not feel the pain!

For first time users I have a suggestion. If you are unsure of your pain tolerance level, take a painkiller. I also figured out that it may be a good idea to use Veet or Nair first, wait for two weeks and then epilate. The reason being, if you are a first time user, your hair are probably quite long. It would hurt more to eplilate longer hair than shorter.

On the whole I liked the machine. I gave four stars because even though they suggest that one can use it for underarms, I have found it hurting even after taking a painkiller.

Awesome Product!
Although this is not for the feint of heart, it does an amazing job. As someone with quite sensitive skin, I have had reactions to waxing, razors are a nightmare and to top it off having course dark hair I am always trying out a product to see if it might help and I think I have found my miracle product with this one!

I wont lie it does hurt when trying it out but I found after a while and once you get the hang of how to use it, it was not all that bad. It does a great job in getting even the shortest of hairs and afterwards it was red, but using a product such as tend skin or any product designed to prevent razor burn it helped a great deal and after a few hours my skin was not red at all.

I would recommend this product to anyone looking for an effective hair removal system. It really works and I wont be going back to razors ever again!

This product performs exactly as it is expected. Yes, the first time you use it, you may feel some discomfort, but walk it off!!!In the end, you will be glad you did!!!When used regularly, there is minimal discomfort for maximum results.I use regularly on my bikini line and on my underarms and can report that the results are smooth and fabulous!I think it works well on legs also, but I am too impatient to use regularly here.In my opinion, this is a godsend for bikini line and underarms!

I like it lots and lots
Let me start by saying that I am fair complected with light hair.I have a LOW tolerence for pain!!I really like this product(after 5 years of using Nad's "wax").The best thing that I have found so far is that I don't have to take a bath after each session.Don't get me wrong, I love baths, but it is difficult with 2 small children, to find the time to wax and then to bathe:)I agree that it does take some creative movement to get all the hair around the knees and ankles, but that is the same with any removal product.I really like using it on the armpit area, and after the second time the pain is not a factor.That brings me to the second think that I like about this product... if it hurts, stop for a bit and come back. The bikini area is a bit dicey, and I think it will be easier with hubby's help to pull the skin taut.I would not recommend starting out with long hair, about a day or 2 growth seems to be the best, so for the first use, shave, wait a day or 2 depending on your hair growth, then go for it.I have found that three days in a row of use gets me smooth for about a two week period, then the little persistant hairs start again.That is about the time I had with Nad's.The new thing here is that I can do it over and be done without waiting for them to grow for another two weeks to get long enough to wax.All in all I am impressed and like the product for the value.I might try a step up next time, or a flat head to see if it makes a difference, but I won't go back to waxing or shaving for the long haul.I am already planning how to introduce epilating to my daughter when she is old enough to do it in the hopes that she will never have to shave because the truth is that my hair is finer and more sparse than before waxing and epilating.

Gorilla legs begone!
I first tried this product about 7 years ago after seeing it in an airline magazine (you know, one of those things on every plane in the pocket on the seat in front of your cramped-up legs). I have always had coarse, dark hair on my legs, thanks to my dad's genetic contribution to my body, and in summer had to shave nearly every day--literally a pain, as I'm of little use with a razor. I ordered my first, wore it out after 4 years, am now wearing out a second! and will certainly buy another one. What I am finding wears out is the power adaptor. It is a good idea to follow the recommendations that come with the product about exfoliation and how to hold the skin, etc. (I find a fine-grade foot file works better than a loofah for exfoliation, by the way). perfect for small areas
I hate shaving and sometimes wax. Waxing was so messy and irritating to my skin that I wanted to try something new.
This product worked great for bikini-line and and underarms. Can be used 1-2 days after shaving (short hairs were less painful to remove for some reason).I got fewer ingrown hairs was happy with the ease of use and effectiveness. So far it has been easy to maintain--I touch up once a week. That way I never look hairy and since there is not much hair, it doesn't hurt at all.

You would need a larger epilator to use on your legs, but this worked okay to pick up missed hairs from waxing, etc.
It is much tinier than I expected--it would travel very well.
I gave it 4 out of 5 because in some ways a larger epilator might be more practical and it uses batteries faster than I would like.

i already own the emjoy gently caress and bought this for touch ups. it is very comfortable and light. however, it is too small for large areas.

Easy? Forget about it.
I purchased this item because it specified that it was "easy to use."That, however, proved to be a giant lie.I found it extremely difficult to properly use this product.It requires the user wet her fingers, to insert a stylus into each individual hair follicle at the proper angle, hold it there for 15 seconds, then tweeze the hair out.Hair follicles are small, and with wet fingers, it's hard to operate the stylus.Also, the quality of the device was very low; it falls out of its container easily.I don't doubt that it works, but I was unable to actually use it.Maybe someone with more manual dexterity would find this product helpful, but I would not recommend it.

it burns, left scars...but i am sure it works

some pain, some gain?
I purchased this product and tried it for the first time last night. It was my first experience with removing hair from the root - I've never waxed or used another epilator - and I'm also in the camp of people with light skin and dark, course hair. I read several product reviews, so I was a bit surprised that it really didn't hurt that much at all when I used this product on my legs. I did take a hot shower and exfoliate beforehand, but I was expecting it to be terrible and it wasn't. Underarms proved to be a different story - it took me three attempts before I could get the hair removed and it was a LOT more painful than the legs. It seems that once you start, you best keep going or you'll never finish. I did like the result - smooth and hair free, with no shadow.

As it turns out, the only real pain was how long it took me to use this product! I probably spent two and half hours on my legs and underarms, and I still keep finding hairs here and there that were missed despite my best attempts. I'm wondering if this is because it was my first time or if there are better epilators out there. If it continues to be so time consuming, I'm likely to give up on this product. It's also disappointing to spend so much time doing something that's no so pleasant, only to find that you're probably going to have to touch up several spots with a razor anyway.

Excellent product
I researched every style and brand of epillator I could find before deciding on this model.It was down to the Braun 3370 and this one.I decided that since this has the newest "dual opposed heads" feature, I should get the latest model with the new technology. I was only going to use this standing in my bathroom in front of the mirror, so I didn't need the cordless model or the ability to recharge it.If you need to use this often or would be travelling with it, those features would probably be important. This model is also small and held easily in the hand, which I thought would be helpful since my main concern was the fuzz on my upper lip and sides of my jawline so the small size would be easier to manipulate around the curves of my face.My skin has become pretty sensitive over the years and waxing just got to be too harsh--the skin around my jawline/neck area was traumatized. It looks like tiny blood vessels directly under the skin surface burst from the wax pulling away and resulted in small, patchy discoloration patterns.Plus, the whole process took a while and I'm not patient with things that take too much time.I was excited to get this Emjoi AP-96 in the mail, but was pretty freaked out by the condition of the box when it arrived. It looked like an elephant had stepped on it and the USPS put this little piece of tape over the gaping hole that said "RECEIVED UN-SEALED".Are they saying THEY received it in that condition? Geez. Thankfully, the Emjoi is packaged floating in plastic and was just to the side of direct impact.I took it right into the bathroom to try it on my face and was completely amazed at how quickly, easily and efficiently it removed my facial fuzz. I was instantly in love with this thing--almost as much as I love my Dyson vacuum, and that's saying something. The more expensive epilady delux does a much much better job. I had to run the epigirl over a 2 inch space a dozen times with very little affect.I'm returning this product with great dissapointment.

Overall satisfied--something I never thought could happen
My first experiences using this gadget were painful, requiring an iron will to persevere. To do even one leg to my satisfaction took something like an hour, so this isn't something that is convenient to do. But the results, I feel, make up for it: I no longer need to shave every day, and my legs stay smooth for days at a time, unlike the results from my old Venus razor (as nice as it was). Moreover, I found that using the Silk-epil on hair just beginning to grow back resulted in dramatically less pain than using on legs that had more hairs long enough to pluck. So my advice is, if you've gone very long since last using Silk-epil, shave a few days before you want to use Silk-epil again so your legs don't have so much for it to tug on all at once. Also, I can count on my legs being covered in tiny red bumps for several hours after using Silk-epil, so it's best to use the day/night BEFORE you need silky-smooth legs. I frequently experience itchy legs now, and I suspect that they are the symptoms of ingrown hairs (to which I AM susceptible, despite using a loofah/mesh scrubber). At least Silk-epil is less messy and gives more reliable results than Nads' honey-waxing system. Bottom line: Silk-epil gives me the ability (and flexibility) to enjoy silky-smooth legs without the expense or hassle of professional waxing.If you're willing to push through the initial adjustment period, you'll likely find this investment well worth it.

Compared to the epilady of the 90's (?) this thing works so much better. The pain is no where near the epilady. Mainly because the epilady's motor slowed down when it would grab the hair tugging on it before yanking it out. This Braun yanks the hair out FAST! It stilln hurts but definitely not as bad as that old torture device that gave epilators a bad name.
The hair grows in finer and much much less noticeable. Being the hair is essentially plucked it doesn't grow back in as quickly as shaved does. It also grows back in stages soyou look like you have less growth. I love this thing. I use it about 1x a week to get any stray hairs. Plus I don't have to let my legs get hairy like an ape like you do when you go waxing. So I definitely recommend this product :)

I have used an epilator before, and even though it hurt like a son of a -, the results were worth it. So, I bought this one knowing that it was still going to really hurt, and just wanting it to take as many hairs as possible in as few passes as possible. I am very pleased with it. True, it hurts, but you're ripping hairs out at the root - duh! This model comes with a funny little head that is supposed to make it hurt less, and it does hurt noticeably less than my last model. The important thing is that it does a really good job of getting a lot of hairs each pass. And you don't have to wait forever for your hair to grow long enough for the appliance to be able to grab it. It worked just fine on my legs when I had shaved only two days before.

Hurts, doesn't work.
Even the store I'm mailing it back to isn't selling it anymore. Too many people have been returning Vector Electrolysis. Never give up though, there must be one that works :)

Works
I purchased this sytem about 2 years ago and I have used it on various parts of my body and I have to say that it definitely works. The hair that was treated did not grow back and in fact hair does not grow back after just one treatment, even though the company recommends 2 - 3 treatments.

Although, I have to say that the Vector System is really not practical for large areas. For example it would take forever to remove all the hair on the legs since hair is being removed one hair at a time. The Vector is perfect if it is being used on facial areas or areas where only a patch of hair needs to removed. On these areas the hair can be removed quickly and you never have to deal with the hassle of tweezing anymore.

So for this reason I am going to give this product 4 stars since I can say I got my money's worth.

Also, the company offers terrific customer service with very fast reply to emails.

Terrific product!
I have been using the Vector on my bikini area and I definitely noticed a reduction of hair in the area. This is a great product that acutally works and I recommend it to anyone who wants to do electrolysis at home.

Great product but difficult to use
I have been using this product to treat the hairs on the facial area, like on my beard and eyebrows. The product really seems to work, you can actually feel the hair follicle disolve inside your skin. I have tried other products in the past from SharperImage and Verseo and none of them worked. Unfortunately, however, treatment with the Vector is very painful and messy. You have to apply special conductive gel or otherwise the treatment will not work. Also, I wish the wires were longer so it would be more comfortable to do the procedure.

I don't like this One Touch electrolysis thing. It makes annoying noises, it irritates the skin, it takes forever, it's not painless as claimed on various sites where I read about it, and another false statement is the "self adjusting stylet tip can't ever pierce skin." I plan to get rid of it on eBay.

Device takes time for changes to be noticeable but it works
Have used this about for 3 months now (1 use per week, 2 hours each time) for facial hair. Initially, I didn't notice any changes, but I continued even though it is fairly painful and time consuming. After the first month, I began to notice a bit less hair. Not sure how long the other reviewer used this product for, but I think this process just takes multiple procedures and plenty of time.

In regards to the pain that others have mentioned, I agree that it is annoying at first, but the device allows you to lower the intensity. I basically used a lower intensity first and after awhile I got used to the sensation so now use the device at the mid-high level. In fact, it's recommended by the manufacturer to start with a lower intensity level first to see if your skin can handle the procedure without permanent scarring. There will be temporary faint reddish marks after each use but they go away in 1-2 days with use of skin lotion.

I can confidently say that after 2 months of usage (roughly 1-2 times a week depending on the speed of your hair growth) you'll notice the changes. If you're not a patient person or have a low pain threshold, you will want to avoid this product. I gave this product 4 stars because it worked for me but it is slow process that takes time so I can't recommend it to everybody.

Didn't work
This item felt like it was working, that is I got the "tiggle" and the hair "fell" out but grew back, I have treated the same hair 3x and it is still coming back.I was optimistic when I ordered it, hopeful when I used it and discourage when I couldn't return it!The return policy allows for 30 days and the item directions say to use it for 60 days.... the math doesn't quite add up.... anyway I wouldn't buy this item again, although I would SELL it to you for 1/2 the price I paid if you want to take your chances.... shopgirl6691@comcast.net

pain in a box
I've been with my boyfriend a long time and recently he moved a few hours away, so we are currently in a long distance relationship. Like most men these days, he's been brainwashed by culture and the media that all women are supposed to be 100% smooth and naturlly hair free except for head eyebrows and eye lashes. And- like a lot of guys, he made me feel self conscious about my dark hair. we used to see eachother a lot and I was pretty much shaving everyday...you name it...and i probably shaved it. Since he went away i've been lazy and not shaving anymore, but since my hair is growing out i thought i'd take the opportunity to remove the hair with a new method that might make it come back slower. I discovered this product and when i read that it made hair NEVER COME BACK i naturally HAD to try it. I was so excited i tried it right away. I read some review that said it hurt, but i've tried waxing and plucking hairs and i'm pretty good at dealing with the pain so i thought what the hell i'm sure i can deal. It said it created a slight tingling sensation...aka BURNING PAIN. The directions said the average setting was 4 (it goes to 10) and that you should apply it on each hair for 15 seconds. I had it set on 1 and i tried it on a hair and couldn't even leave it in for 5 seconds it burned so bad. i can't even imagine the people who set it to 10! they must be either crazy or desensitized. i kept trying to give it a chance over and over but it was so painful. i tried to set it on 2 and started swearing. The package says to keep the tweezers on hand to pull out the dead hair when you're done so you don't have to look away and loose your spot. Let me tell you...you don't even have to worry about loosing your spot...the area is so red and the pore is bubbling with white puss looking stuff that..trust me you WON'T loose your spot. The only thing that this product made me realize is how ridiculous it is- the pain we go through to look good and the pressure us women (and men) are put under for having hair on our bodies that is completely natural and harming no one! i have read that the product does infact remove hair forever, this was my first time using it so i can't say that for sure yet. so, if you want to go through that and your hair is gone forever...more power to you and good luck...i hope you don't pass out from the pain. i read a review about a man who didnt believe his wife about the pain so he tried it...he was in the marines and said it hurt like hell. I was skeptical but now i believe him. If you want electrolysis i recomend you have a few stiff drinks and then go get it professionaly done.

It was just okay kind
I got this product for my wife. Earlier she was using Philips brand and after trying this she was okay with, but not completely satisfied. She says philips is better!

Pays for Itself On the First Day!
I just received the Emjoi Gently Gold Epilator this morning, and I immediately tested it out.I have ULTRA sensitive skin (especially on the legs), I was really afraid of how badly I'd be hurt.

The noise and the speed of the epilator were intimidating, but once I finally got the courage to test it out on my calf, all that fear was for nothing!

It DIDN'T hurt at all!Of course, you're going to feel something (the hairs are being pulled from their roots!) but only a mild, slightly scratch-like feeling, as if you were gently scratching your leg with short fingernails to relieve an itch. Once I got the hang of the technique (you have to move the epilator in circles since hairs don't all grow in the same direction), it was simple and almost relaxing.NOTE:It REALLY helps to hold your skin taut as you skim the epilator over your leg; then you almost feel nothing at all.

I also did my underarms.I was shocked at how painless and quick it was!(Raising your arm is already holding the skin taut.)It was even faster than shaving!!

This epilator costs half of the least expensive leg-waxing you could possibly find here in expensive San Francisco-- so already it's paid for itself.I'm not hairy, but it usually takes a waxer one hour to do each leg.With the Emjoy, it took me an hour to do both legs, and that was only because it was my first time!!

I did get the red rash and bumps that are normal after a waxing, but guess what?Three hours later, and they're already gone!

I'm going to reccommend the Emjoy to all of my girlpals; no working girl should have to shell out so much of her hard-earned money every three weeks when you have only to buy an epilator once!

Best $30 I Have Ever Spent!
I researched this epilator for years before I finally bought it, my only regret is waiting so long to finally purchase it.

I have experienced different types of hair removal products - Nair, Shaving, Waxing. Waxing gave the best results since the hair would not grow back for about 3 weeks. But even waxing is very time consuming, a bit costly (I have my own wax heater, strips, etc), and messy.

My other problem is that I have extremely sensitive skin. I would shave my legs every day because I am a compulsize freak that cannot stand hair! Since I started shaving, my skin would have a bad reaction to razors and would turn red, bumpy, and extremely itchy - this would last even if I dared to stop shaving for half a week.

So, Emjoi came to the rescue. My first experience using this little tool was on my arm hair. I flipped the switch and the buzzing was really intimidating! I stared it down for a minute or two. In order to assure myself that this thing would not eat my arm, I put it to the palm of my hand so that I could know what it would feel like and know what to expect. That calmed me way down and I started removing the hair on my arm. There was no pain involved around this area since a lot of the hairs were very thin. You can expect to feel as though the machine is "sucking" on your skin when it pulls the hairs out (ok, more of a plucking sensation). Nothing to be alarmed about. You will get used to it fast.

So, with my arms completely hair free, I moved on to my legs ... I knew I was going to be addicted to this thing. I grew my leg hair out for about 2 days, so the tips of the hair were barely poking out of the skin. The epilator was able to pull these teeny little hairs out! I was in awe. It was a lot more difficult to do my legs though since the hair grows so thick from shaving and my legs are very very sensitive. I was able to do the upper part of my calves with barely any problems at all. When I got to my ankles ... WOAH, that was painful since my ankles are the most sensitive spot. It took me two days to successfully remove all of the hair, doing a tiny area at a time. Fortunately, after I removed the hair once, going back over it for maintenance is so painless and easy since not as many hairs grow back and they grow back thinner.

The reaction the skin on my legs had to the epilator was expected: red, bumpy, soreness - like after you wax. But, it disappeared after a day or two and every time I use the epilator, my skin no longer turns red or bumpy.

Being the compulsive freak that I am, I went on to epilating my under arms, back, stomach, and even crotch area. I barely had hair in these areas though, just a little peach fuzz. I know a lot of you must think I'm crazy for using this thing on my crotch, but it is actually painless. It gets a little scary when you get really close to the "magic spot", but it's really not bad at all.

Now for the downsides to this product, if you can even call it that ...
- After using this once or twice, your hair begins to grow back so thin that when you go back over the hairs, they pretty much break off. So you will see a little dot where the hair is just at the skinline.
- You must hold your skin tightly or else it will pinch your skin. Doesn't really hurt. Just scares you a lil'.

Other than that, I can't find anything bad about this product and can't believe I've gone so long without it. Not to mention, it's a very reasonable price ... and not having to shave my legs everyday, priceless. I know, that sounded like a commercial.

Awesome little Epilator
This is the second Emjoi I have owned. My last one lasted for years and still works, but I wanted one that could be plugged in while shaving. I got tired of the charge running out before I was done with both my legs. Not with this one though. It's a little smaller than my original Emjoi, but doesn't seem to really make much of a difference. I will NEVER go back to shaving, I use this bad boy once a week. It's just so nice not to have to shave in the shower every day. I must have a high tollerance for pain as it has never bothered me except a little in the bikini area. The best time to use it is right after you shower because your leg hairs are sticking straight up making it easier to get them all. Oh the best part, no more rash/bumps in the bikini area since using my emjoi, nothing else ever worked, I alwayshad bumps! I Was Skeptical
Like every other woman in the United States I hated having to shave my legs and underarms everyday.I saw this hair remover as a Today's Special Value on QVC and decided that with a money-back guarantee it was worth a try.

The first time I tried it I thought it wasn't working.It wasn't the hair remover's fault.It was mine.I was simply stroking it up my leg much like I had my regular razor.Re-reading the directions I saw that it needed shorter strokes and a bit of a delay to actually pluck the hairs out.

When I was patient, it worked wonderfully.So well, that I decided to try it out on my underarms.Does it work?Yes!Did it hurt?Yes!The first time I used it on my underarms I immediately began packing it back up to return it.It was an exquisitly painful process.You ARE pulling out your underarm hairs by their roots after all.Determined though, I persevered.I actually had blood droplets where some of the hairs had been.Yes, it hurt like the dickens!BUT - my armpits were hair free.I had NO STUBBLE to deal with.As the hairs began to grow back in they were extremely fine. Bad choice
The worst epilator I have ever had. Really. It just doesn't work at all, maybe it would only on really long and thick hair. On mine it just didn't do anything. Unbelievable, but true. I tried it for 15 minutes and maybe got only couple hair out, I just kept scrubing my leg with it, but not for good at all. I'm really dissapointed and have wasted my money for totally nothing!

Excellent product, but...
I would have splurged to get one with an AC adapter had I really thought about it. It takes a while to do both legs (which isn't the worst thing in the world, I watched tv) but an ac power cord would have made this a five star purchase. My fault, not the manufacturer. If your hair is short, it can take several passes. The pain is no worse than waxing (if you are familiar) but SO much cleaner! Bikini area not for the faint of heart,unless you are already a regular waxer and used to the discomfort! Personally I wouldn't do my underarms if you paid me, I wouldn't even try, but two legs?
