3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings..
I bought this to chart my ovulation so my husband and I could prep to have a baby next year.I did get the ferning patterns during the time that seemed to be around my ovulation dates but I also got the ferning patterns right after my menstruation too.On another occasion, it had no ferning pattern when I expected it to have them but I wanted to test this it out, so I tried it again in the day time even though you're supposed to do the test only once a day in the morning after you wake up.There were the ferning patterns! So I'm just a little skeptical about how well it works.Or maybe my saliva was muddled in the morning. So I wouldn't rely solely on this although it could help if used continously and in ideal conditions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little ov-u-lation kit, nicely done..
My wife had me buy this b/c we will try to be conceiving a few more times and we were tired of purchasing the throw away kits for 8/10 bucks a clip, and this little tester has done us well..
we aren't preggers yet, but this has helped and is easy to use, just a little saliva in the morning and you are ready to do the horizontal mamba baby!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded up to expectations
After some researching on ovulation kits, my husband and I settled on this one.First of all, it is completely reuseable. This was hugely attractive since I am so irregular that my doctor wondered if I had ever ovulated.I would have spent a fortune on the urine tests which only come 7 or 9 in a package because I wouldn't have known which days to test.
Also, this isextremely easy to use and the directions are easy to understand and follow.Basically the principle as I understand it is that in your dried saliva when you are ovulating is a ferning pattern which you can see through this device. It is amazing....they have a picture on the box and when you see what looks like a mess of pine tree on the slide...you know it is positive.
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this machine....I would recommend also purchasing either lens tissue or one of those microfiber cloths that you might use to clean a camera lens or glasses with.It helps you to make sure that you've cleaned the slide well in between days to see the results accurately.
Try it if you want to get pregnant....for someone who never thought it could be possible....I am now going on my 9th week!

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY !!!
Finally a way not to spend $300 to determine ovulation. This unit works and costs nothing compared to the urine tests.
I used the Ovulite for 60 days and I am expecting in October of this year.
Thank you! Thank you! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works If you use them correctly.
I ended up wasting a couple of these expensive strips as well. Was my fault though. Warm water is essential in getting the blood flowing in the hand. Squeezing the finger to be "pricked" expands the blood vessels for good drop. After pricking finger, squeeze the finger as if pumping a drop of blood from the finger. Works better and was not mentioned in booklet. They tell you to squeeze, and that is not enough. The strips have a barcode on the back. Once you pass it pass the red diode, it is seen as a new strip, pull it out to reposition it and it is no longer seen as new, you just wasted $4. Push it in good and it snaps into place... requires a bit of focused effort. Get a big drop of blood and cover the whole yellow square and it works fine. All the other complaints are user errors, nothing wrong with the product. My strips were good for two years... so the expiration issue must have been limited. I performed tests for all my family members and they were delighted with the results. Most had never had a cholesteral test.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Dates
I decided to order some of the test stripes despite the bad reviews since I've such good luck with Amazon. I received them yesterday and they had an expiration date of May 2006. This is much better than I have received from other sources.

2-0 out of 5 stars Old Test Strips
I received 2 packages of test strips on April 26, 2004 and they expired on May 1st, 2004.I immediately returned them and requested replacements. However, they gave me a refund instead so I would assume they have a boatload of these sitting around in a warehouse which they are trying to get rid of.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware of Expiration date from AMAZON!!!!!
I got screwed with 2 test packets that expired 10 days after I got them $35 bucks down the drain. Amazon sucks !!! Big Waste of my time and money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Be wary of expiration date
Although I love the Lifestream cholesterol monitor, I've had two instances of buying the strips where the expiration dates were unreasonable. The latest was the set I bought here in April which arrived April 20, 2004, with an expiration date of May 1, 2004!!!Hello?Since they weren't in stock until two weeks ago, I can only presume the supplier was trying to unload old stock. There's no way that I know of to check the date unless you go to the Lifestream web site and order there--for $6.95 shipping. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Wildly inaccurate
Varied from 10% above to 8% below actual humidity, as measured against several known accurate humdity guages. I returned it as useless.

4-0 out of 5 stars works decently
Don't breathe on this or get it close to moisture or else it'll screw up the readings for about 30 minutes. Also don't use the velcro strap as they don't stick very well, on either end. I tried to put it up on the wall and it fell off after an hour or so. Otherwise works great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works fine as far as I know
This seems to work as advertised.I bought a different brand and style in the same price range, and when I set the two next to each other I get almost the exact same readout for both temperature and humidity on each.So either it is accurate, or both are junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
This product might be worth $1.99 tops. But at $17.99 this is a piece of junk. It didn't even work out of the box. They say "buyer beware". But if you buy this product you have nobody to blame but yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reasonably priced, simple thermometer/hygrometer
My physic teacher once said, you know exactly what temperature it is when you have one thermometer. But when there are two, you're never sure. The reason is because more often than not, the thermometers are a bit off from each other. This is not the case with Mr. Misty.I bought two and tested them for a week. The hygrometer and thermometer readings are consistent on both units. However, I did not test the accuracy of the readings. ... Reviews (4)

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Time or Money on the Clapper
I read the previous reviews and hoped the negative one was not true. But, the Clapper would not work at all for me either. No amount of close up or far off clapping worked. But when I leaned in close to examine it, it turned on without clapping. The sensitivity control did not make one bit of difference.I am not a novice in electronics, and I am telling the truth here.I am not affiliated with any competitive company or product, but just think this product should be taken off the market.I urge you to find some other product that will accomplish your task.

2-0 out of 5 stars not worth the annoyance
I wouldn't buy this thing again. We have it running a lamp next to the front door. There's no wall switch for that outlet, and the switch on the lamp is a bit cumbersome, so I thought the clapper would be a convenient way to turn on the light when returning home at night. It is, but the unit is way too sensitive. Maybe it's the acoustics of the room (hardwood floors), but just about anything will set it off as another reviewer mentioned. Ours does have the adjustable sensitivity and even with it set fully to "home" mode (least sensitive) it gets triggered when not desired. It will eventually get scrapped when we get a different lamp with a more accessible switch, although I'm just about fed up enough to do away with it even before then.

5-0 out of 5 stars simple and effective
After you get over the cheesiness of the old Clapper tv commercials, you'll find that it actually does come in handy. The other reviewer may not noticed that her Clapper was in the "Away" position which is meant to turn your lights on upon detecting any noise.

2-0 out of 5 stars More of a nuisance
This little device was more of an irritation to me that I finally unplugged the sucker.I pluged a lamp that I have in my bedroom to the clapper and it would turn on and off at the slightest noise! If I dropped the remote on the floor, it would go on/off.If my TV made a loud noise, it would turn on/off.If I was talking on the phone, it would turn on/off.I used to joke that I had a strobe light in my bedroom, but it got too much for me to handle that I had to finally unplug it.It didn't come with a sensitivity switch and was VERY sensitive to sound, so in short, don't buy it unless you plan to live in silence. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A solid device, worth the price
I looked at a lot of different items in this category, and decided on this one. You pay a LOT for automatic inflation, and that's easy enough to do yourself.

Operation is very simple and gives quick results. Deflation of the cuff is managed by the unit (with a user-controlled quick deflate should you want to quit), and I've never thought is was uncomfortably tight. After a minute or so, you have a BP and pulse measurement. No hassle.

The memory feature is a little hard to understand, and doesn't have a time stamp. That aside, instructions are clear and measurements seem reliable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So comfortable
These are just amazing.I have pretty bad carpal tunnel in both hands, aggravated by a recent move and painting. My doctor suggested wrist splints at night, and I'll admit I didn't know why that should help, because I thought just wearing braces during repetitive activities should be enough.Sure enough, wearing wrist braces at night has dramatically improved my condition.

These wrist braces are extremely comfortable. They are padded inside, and are not too tight.Traditional braces tended to rub and chafe around the thumb area, to leave deep grooves in my skin if I wore them overnight, and were itchy and sweaty by morning. These are like wearing a cloud. Moreover, if I forget to put them on, and wake up with tingling and numbness in my hands, I can slip these on and the tingling disappears within seconds.Shaking my hands to restore feeling and trying to massage my arm and wrist area to relieve the tingling do not work, but these braces do.

The only disadvantage is that the brace completely encases your hand.It makes it impossible for you to readjust your pillow or the covers while wearing them. They do easily slide on and off, however. They're also washable. There is an adjustable version of the nighttime Pil-O-Splint, I believe. While I haven't tried it, if you have an exceptionally large or unusually small forearm, you may find that this one-size-fits-all version doesn't work for you, and may prefer to check out the adjustable version (also sold on Amazon).I was initially concerned that this product would not work for me, as it was a bit loose around the wrist, but found I didn't need it to be tightly compressed to work well.

All in all, the best brace for sleeping that I've ever found.Very happy with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Support!
I have tried many kinds of wrist splints since 1997 and my diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel in both wrists. I mainly need them at night, and most get too hot, itchy from being too tight, etc. These feel like a pillow and help me get more comfortable. My carpal tunnel doesn't cause me a lot of pain, unless I try to sleep without splints or do something stupid; it's mild and mostly numbness & tingling. That said, these certainly help me stay more comfortable during sleeping time, and my wrists don't sweat even when I get hot and the rest of me does. I love 'em, and recommend them to anyone who hates the stiff, tight kinds. These keep my wrists straight and my fingers in a comfortable position, which no other wrist brace I've tried does [others are made for daytime use, and I still have my Velcro metal backbone ones for outings]. In my case, it pays to have a different kind for sleeping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a commercial...but it's amazing
For many months I'd been suffering from a recurring nighttime problem: I'd awaken in the morning with a totally numb, cold right hand.Obviously, it's a case of carpal tunnel syndrome. As a pianist and teacher, this is not something I need to deal with!

But from the first night I began wearing the Pil-O-Splint, the numbness completely disappeared.I could hardly believe it.One night, just as a test, I didn't put it on....guess what, I awoke in the middle of the night with a numb right hand!

Since then, I've consistently used it and have found continued relief.

Thank you to the doctor in San Diego who invented this product!!

4-0 out of 5 stars great over the counter wrist splint
i suffer from carpal tunnel, and this is the best non-prescription splint i've found for sleeping.i had a custom made splint that was excellent, but it was starting to fall apart.the great thing about this one is that it's much longer than most splints you'll find at the drugstore.that way it doesn't dig into your arm and makes it quite comfy. ... Reviews (4)

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Accurate, Excellent Value

After having little success using a $250 Timex Bodylink GPS watch (see review) in Manhattan, I decided to try this $15 pedometer. At first I was quite skeptical. However my tests showed the Sportline 340 Pedometer having astounding repeatability (better than 1%) and accuracy.

Most pedometers, including this one, are very basic instruments. Inside the device, there is a balanced weight that is very sensitive to vertical motion. When clipped to your belt, it increments the counter as you step driven by the translation of one side of your waist.

In order to test and calibrate the Sportline 340 Pedometer, I walked a very straight stretch of six Manhattan blocks. In the first group of tests, there were few sidewalk obstacles and minimal pedestrian traffic that impeded my movements. In order to be moderately scientific, I was certain to start and stop on the proper side of the street so the distance included exactly six stretches of cross street and six stretches of sidewalk.

After four trips of walking the same path, my step counter showed an amazingly small range of 588 to 594 steps. When one considers the variables imposed, such as not always being able to walk completely straight, the results are even more impressive. As you can see from the data below, the accuracy was quite amazing. The difference from the mean never exceeded 1%. Given the simplicity of the pedometer, I didn't expect this level of repeatability. Moreover, I didn't expect my stride length to be so uniform.

My hypothesis was that the exceptional accuracy may have been fostered, in part, by the shoes I was wearing. The Kenneth Cole Building Block shoes (see review) have very heavy soles and large heals. These may insure that the impact is harsh enough to always trigger the movement of the weight.

On a second grouping of tests, I walked precisely the same path wearing my New Balance 620 cross trainers (see review). The conditions were not the same as the group due to far more pedestrian traffic and other obstacles, which made it very difficult to walk in a straight line. In fact, one test had to be scrapped as I was nearly run over by a taxi. As you can see below, the second group produced a step count about 2% greater than the first group. Yet this was probably due to the unavoidable path changes.

Considering that the pedometer is only calibrated in whole inches, the accuracy truly limited by the precision of the calibration settings. This means there is no difference in the two calibrations as both stride lengths would round to 32 inches.

For the price, the Sportline 340 pedometer is an excellent piece of fitness equipment. If you enjoy low-impact exercise by walking, consider this device as an excellent tool for tracking your efforts.

Pros
Inexpensive
Light
Accurate

Cons
Lack of speed, time or other measurements
Requires user to look down while tilting the device upward
Possible inaccuracy caused by movement other than walking
Needs greater calibration precision

4-0 out of 5 stars It works great when programed correctly!
When I first bought this, I thought this was a cheap product. However, then I read the directions!! I took several distance measurements of my strides (the "how too's" are in the directions) and then programed the stride lenght into the pedometer and it was accurate with in about 30 to 40 steps.I'm sure there are better mods, but this one is simple & small & pretty accurate in my opinion!Especailly for what you pay!
(I would recommend buying the used ones in "new" or "like new" condition - or somewhere that you can return them if you don't find it easy or accurate.Based on the other reviews, I think people just don't program them right.) Check out http://ihatefat.blogspot.com/2005/03/blame-it-on-rain.html for information on calculating your stride lenght.
I hope this helps!

1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy this
I just bought this sportline 340 pedometer today.I walked20 steps, and it gave me a reading of 58 steps.I reset it, and tested it again. The next 50 steps I took resulted in a reading of 69 steps.I reset it, and tested it again. With my next 50 steps, it gave me a reading of 18 steps.I was very careful to use it properly; the problem was not human error.Don't bother with the sportline 340.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dont bother with this one
This pedometer doesn't clock every step. I walked around the city for hours and it only clocked 12k steps while my sister's clocked 20k. It's a nice, tiny size that doesn't bulge from my belt but it doesn't do the job it's supposed to. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 65 cm Exercise Ball
I have the 65 cm model, and it came as described. It is has more of a latex feel than some of the more rigid, plastic-feeling balls, and it is not as rigid as I have experienced in the past. Still rugged and very useful, but it is probably better suited for folks 6" shorter than advertised. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Bit Inaccurate
Beware, this scale weighs you approximately 4-5 pounds more than the scale you are probably using now.Even body fat was extremely high.

My normal scale weighed me within 1 pound of my doctor's scale.I wanted the body fat option as well. After stepping off the Tanita and on to my original scale, I immediately lost 5 pounds.

Still, the weight tracker is convenient and it looks nice/sturdy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate Wrist BP Monitor
I compared it to the best rated the WalMart brand ReliOn brand It matched the readings within a 1 to 2 points. I made sure that my ReliOn was accurate using a stethoscope and also by comparing with a manual unit many times.

HEM-637 is quiter and much smaller than the ReliOn. One feature I like is that it does not start unless held in the correct poisition. The key is to hold the hand steady, not move, or talk. To hold the arm steady, rest the plam just below the opposite shoulder. Also, make sure that the wrist does not touch the chest to avoid getting erroneous reading.

It is, however, $30 more expensive than the ReliOn. Consider purchasing it if you are a traveller or have uncontrolled BP. It will allow you to track BP under various stress conditions (work) without being noticed.

It stores 99 readings with date and time making recoredkeeping easy. The lack of PC software is not an issue for me. I find manual recordkeeping is faster and quite adequate.

3-0 out of 5 stars Important Missing Feature
This is a good unit for monitoring blood pressure.Purchasers should know ahead that measuring blood pressure with a wrist style monitor is sensitive to arm position. The Intellisense system verifies your arm position before it takes a measurement, making it more consistent than units that do not.(Missing Feature) I lowered the rating to 3 stars because the unit is equipped with an interface port, which if you purchase the unit in Europe or Asia it also comes with software (missing in USA) and a cable (missing in USA) that allows you to download the data to your pc and share with the doctor.Omron refuses to support this feature in the USA (hence my aggravation) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is another must have for any home gym!
One of my trainers works me on my Thera-Band ball quite a bit to strengthen my core.It works very well and uses much of what my Pilates machine does as far as lengthening muscle and toning. It's an excellent edition and priced right! You have to get it.Sit ups are much harder, but take less time, with greater results!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great battery life!
I just passed 1 year of owning this scale, and I would like to report that the battery has not needed replacing yet! Between myself and my husband, this gets used several times a week.

I also love the accuracy of the scale and the body fat percentage, and the fact that it always weighs the same. I recently started working out regularly, and I like to use the scale to monitor my body fat. It's much quicker and easier than having it measured at the gym, and although it might not be 100% accurate, I mostly care about the downward trend. Unless you're a serious athlete, it is most likely accurate enough for your needs.

I bought a Tanita scale because I knew they are the best, and so far this one is living up to that!

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate and consistent results
I really like this scale. Much better than our old scale and it always returns consistent results.I have compared the results to the scale at our gym and they are both the same. Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ONLY way to measure body fat
I am in the military, and because of that, we have to be within certain body fat standards.I've been taped many times, sometimes accurately and sometimes not.I've had the calipers used on me, and I've used the calipers at home. Both ways yield somewhat variable results, not to mention that they are very time consuming. This scale has been the only thing that is right-on and consistent every time with body fat and weight.Of course, you need to use it at the same time every day to get the most accurate results, but yes, it's wonderful. After having used it for over a year, I couldn't even begin to imagine doing any kind of fitness/diet program without it.If they charged double for this scale, I'd pay it without question, it's that good.I agree that there are cheaper ways out there to measure body fat, but none are nearly as accurate, consistent, convenient, or as fast.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great, accurate scale when used right
If I had reviewed this scale a month ago, I would have given it one star -- but that's because I actually didn't know how to use a scale properly, as I recently discovered from the book "Weight Loss Kit for Dummies".I used to weigh myself on carpeted floor, which is a complete no-no -- the weight fluctuated and was unusually low; plus I weighed myself at different times of the day -- a rather daft thing to do that led to 3 to 4 lb fluctuations. When I started weighing myself properly -- on a hard, bathroom floor, at exactly 7AM when I woke up in the morning and drank some water to hydrate myself -- the scale gave wonderful, accurate readings.Stepping off the scale and coming back an hour or so later for my shower gave readings that were never more than 0.2 pounds off but usually the same.Fat readings varied widely, but all books I've read on bioelectrical impedence (the method used to measure your fat on this scale) confirm that it can only be used as an estimate, it's never entirely accurate, and to achieve weight loss you shouldn't be obsessed with perfection.Over the last month of using this scale, I've fluctuated from 44-45.5% body fat readings (yes high I know) when I started using it correctly, to 42-43.5% now four weeks later, so although the range fluctuates I can see an overall downward trend -- I haven't seen a 45% in weeks, despite the fact that I used to see it frequently four weeks ago.All in all, a good scale.

2-0 out of 5 stars Kinda frustrating!
Ok, so at first, this scale seems great. Easy to program and use, and you can see your weight and body fat percentages. BUT - turn the scale off, and then step on it again. I guarantee you will see different numbers-sometimes off by 1 or even 2 pounds! And how can a person's body weight suddenly jump by 4 percent?! Move the scale to another side of the bathroom. (Yes, we all do this!) Totally different reading than the previous two. I'm giving it two stars because it's always within 2 pounds or so, but boy, is it frustrating! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Costs more, but sturdy and compact
This pedometer beats all the crummy ones that are out there now--from Special K, freebies from insurance cos, etc.It costs a little more, but is compact and sturdy.Unfortunately, it is not waterproof---I left it on my jeans and tossed it in the washing machine. It actually still worked, but I could no longer clearly read the screen.I'm buying my second one today. ...
