4-0 out of 5 stars Good Unit
Like so many other reviewers, I'd have to say that the measurements correlate fairly well with the readings by my local doctor's office.

A couple of things to remember:

You have to align the arm band correctly to get an accurate reading.

The unit only goes up to 150 on the pressure scale while inflating, other units are adjustable between 140-160-180.It's a comfort thing, 150 is fine for me.

Panasonic does a good job with this technology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and easy to use.
I just got this monitor but its simple and easy. It comes with good instructions and tells you exactly where to place it on your arm. It can be used right or left, sitting or laying down and remembers 21 checks for two differnt people although I use the chart it came with to wright down my weight and what reading it gives. It has lights that are red , yellow and green that come on when done but I always look at the screen although its nice to look over and see the green lights. I take medication for my blood pressure and I trust in the Panasonic name. This monitor also has a holder on the back so everything is nice and neat. Im no expert but for the average joe like me its great.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real life saver!
I read the reviews here and decided to purchase this product. I took it to my physicians office and it proved to be very accurate. I began using it at home, and it showed my normally low blood pressure of six months ago had sky rocketed. With the monitors ability to record your blood pressure findings, it saved me from further tests. I just took it with me to my Dr.'s appt. so she could review, and set up a treatment plan. An easy way to divert a possible disaster!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good BP monitor but...
My normally stable blood pressure for some reason shot up and I was put on medicine and told to watch it.I needed a blood pressure meter.I checked the ratings on Amazon and found this one which seemed to have the most favorable ratings.I wasn't disappointed when it came.
It's easy to use.Just push a big yellow button. My previous one from years ago got more error readings than it gave correct ones. This one has had only one in two months.
You can use it on either arm. This is nice because I can check it's accuracy that way.I brought it to my doctors office and compaired with a manual reading and it was correct.
There are two other big save buttons for saving readings. So two people can save their results.
What about the but. While on the phone with my doctor he wanted some of my past readings and I could go back thorugh those I saved but there is no date or time stamp. After a while it gets hard to remember if 17 was Tuesday morning or Monday night. To complicate matters it doesn't save it unless you push one of the save buttons. So you can't tell if you forgot to save a reading.
I found this meter to be simple and accurate but if you really want to monitor your pressure you still need paper and pencil to use this unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great device...
Recently, when my doctor told me that I had mild hypertension, I decided to purchase a blood pressure monitor for my home so that I could monitor my readings myself, hopefully easily. This device has completely met my needs.I didn't want to spend a fortune on a monitor, but I did want a quality machine that was easy to use and accurate.Using this Panasonic blood pressure monitor, it is very easy to measure my pressure and pulse readings, and the results seem very accurate compared to what I have received at my doctor's office. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the machine works flawlessly.Highly recommended! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars True engineer
It is accurate and repeatable. I compared it several times to a manual instrument. Both agreed within a couple of points each time. It takes about 30 seconds for a measurement. The test ranges for me are: Systolic 115 - 140 mm Hg and Diastolic: 70 -90 mm Hg

Wrist Positioning: You can position your wrist at the heart level using the same method used during the pledge of allegiance.I find this technique reliable and has given me outstanding repeatability in readings. Not only it eliminates the need to support the elbow since the arm is resting on your chest, but is very comfortable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product

4-0 out of 5 stars My doctor liked it
I don't own one now, but I did years back.It was the last BP monitor that I owned and I haven't had one for a few years since it broke after I'd had it for five years (cuff wore out and burst).Shame on me for not self monitoring for so long.I'm starting a drug regimen that might upset my BP control, so I need to start monitoring again, and I'm shopping for a new device.

When I used this, I took it to my doctor's to check its accuracy every time I went and I always found it to be on the money. My internist at the time, an old guy, was fascinated by it.I'm surprised that so many people had problems with its accuracy. As for fit, I had the opposite problem--I have big hands and fingers and sometimes had to twist my finger around in the cuff to get it to agree to inflate with it adjusted all the way out.The only person I ran across that it wouldn't work for was my grandmother, who was ill, bedridden and emaciated.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless...
I bought this in September...moitored my heart for four months only to find that the doctor's office is the only reliable monitor. I was getting consistent readings of 110/68...when my actual blood pressure is 140/94......Hmmmmm!!!

This toy is useless enough to give you ...high blood pressure! Any thoughts on how I can return it and get my money back would be appreciated.

1-0 out of 5 stars DOESN'T WORK
We tried testing 4 different people several times with this blood pressure monitor and everyone the reading wasn't accurate. All the readings were so low that you would be dead if they were accurate.Do not buy this item.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy accuracy, nice function
Any of these finger units are notoriously inaccurate. I've tried 2 including this one. I went back to a self inflating arm cuff unit. The accuracy STINKS and is very errattic. Anyone who tells you different has an agenda. Ask your doctor. Compare at your doctors. Whatever. Then add that experience with your own. When you do it 3 times and the reading is all over the place but your arm cuff is derad on, what's your conclusion?

5-0 out of 5 stars My doctor loved it !
I took my model 1083 to the doctor's office the other day and compared it's results with the result from the measurement taken with the doctor's wall mounted hand pump. To my surprise the 1083 came within 3 points of the doctor's measurement. Not bad for an electronic gadget. The 1083 is small, easy to use and very accurate. Try it, I think you will like it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Wrist monitor review
I just purchased the EW3002 but I should have purchased the EW3032S, which is the same unit with step up features. If you notice both have the same price - so why not buy the EW3032S.

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate Wrist BP Monitor
I agree with Mr White about the accuracy of this model. It is very easy to use if you hold the hand agaist the chest with fingers touching the collar bone. This ensures the monitor level with the heart. This technique eliminates the need for elbow support. Thus, readings can be taken anywhere.

It is also comfortable and compact. Good for those who want to carry it while travelling.

5-0 out of 5 stars easy read and accurate
I ran this wrist sphyg with a mercury certified unit and the readings were almost exactly the same. Most products from Panasonic are quality and I have not found yet that begs a difference from that advertised. Only problem I had was the way the unit faces, away from direct vision so learn to read it sideways. This product is several hundred dollars less than a pro cuff, is quick and not uncomfortable to use at all....

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice unit, but
I really liked the design and size of the unit, but it was just not accurate.I have been monitoring my blood pressure for years and it has never been low. This unit gave me low readings most of the time.I liked the readings, but I know they were not true.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product for the price
I bought it from Amazon and I have no complaints on this so far.
Personally I believe that wrist BP monitoring is only for indicatory purpose. This unit worked fine when I followed instrcutions correctly. And I noticed a variation if the arm is too low or not rested and positioned correctly. Overall, I am happy about the functonality of the product.
---------
I am re-writing this.... When I compared readings of this monitor with professional manual readings, this operatus always showed normal readings. In a way this piece is smartly cheated me to believe that it is working perfect. How do we know until we compare withe other readings. I returned this to Amazon and trying to call back 4 stars I have given..... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and accurate
I have a history of hypertension and I found recently that my blood pressure had risen again in spite of a better diet and weight loss.I decided to buy this monitor to check the effect of other changes to my diet on my blood pressure in between doctor visits. This monitor was very easy to use and accurate.I make a check of my blood pressure daily and am very satisfied with the results. The unit itself arrived quickly and with no problems. The only thing I would recommend is for the user to measure his or her own bicep. If it's between 13 and 16 inches, you may need to order the Large Adult Arm Cuff.(The Standard cuff is the one included.)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
I have had 3 blood pressure cuffs. This one is the best.It stores measurements including pulse.Wrist cuffs are a waste of money and can give you inaccurate information.Bicep cuffs are the best.Omron has a very good reputation among health professionals.

A word of caution, you need to use the cuff properly and to always use it the same way.It is also important to take severalmeasurements (2 a day) when you are measuring trends. And you need to average the results for 4-5 days.

If you do this you can manage your blood pressure through a combination of drugs, exercise and diet.A good set of records will allow you to measure your progress. For example, if you want to know the benefit of an exercise program (benefit in reducing BP) you can measure this. The same is true of low sodium diet.

This cuff is very good and with the AC adapter you can make many meausrements and depend on the consistency of the measurement if not the accuracy.Consistency is important.

Good luck.

Amazon.com Product Description

Introducing RESPeRATE, the interactive breathing device used by thousands of men and woman nationwide to gain control over high blood pressure. Used for just 15 minutes a few times a week, RESPeRATE delivers a significant all-day blood pressure reduction.

The Power to Lower Blood Pressure
Proven in Seven Clinical Trials
Within 4 to 6 weeks of use, a significant, all day reduction in blood pressure can be achieved.
it in action
RESPeRATE is a portable, computerized electronic device that guides you through sessions of interactive, therapeutic breathing powerful enough to lower blood pressure.

Using a breathing sensor, RESPeRATE automatically analyzes your individual breathing pattern and creates a personalized melody composed of two distinct inhale and exhale guiding tones, delivered through comfortable earphones.

Simply listen to the melody through the headphones and synchronize your breathing to the tones. By prolonging the exhalation tone RESPeRATE guides you to slow your breathing and reach the "therapeutic zone" of less than 10 breaths per minute.

The physiological result? The muscles surrounding the small blood vessels in your body dilate, and relax. Blood is allowed to flow more freely, and pressure is directly, significantly lowered.

Breathing with RESPeRATE makes the difference
Scientific evidence has shown that structured therapeutic breathing, if performed without an effort or particular concentration, can significantly lower your blood pressure. However, these effortless therapeutic breathing sessions are difficult to perform on your own without years of training or continuous, individualized coaching. That is why RESPeRATE was developed.

To deliver effortless therapeutic breathing without any prior training, RESPeRATE utilizes a patented "Interactive Respiratory Pacing" technology, which ingeniously takes advantage of the body's natural tendency to follow external rhythms.

Three Easy Steps

Step 1: The respiration sensor monitors your breathing.

Step 2: The RESPeRATE computerized unit composes a personalized melody with prolonged inhale and exhale guiding tones.

Step 3: Simply listen to the melody through the headphones and synchronize your breathing.

By prolonging the exhalation tone RESPeRATE guides you to slow your breathing and reach the "therapeutic zone" of less than 10 breaths per minute.

it in action
And while your breathing returns to normal after each session with RESPeRATE, the beneficial impact on your blood pressure is cumulative. Bottom line: with regular use of RESPeRATE, measurable, sustained reduction in blood pressure is achieved.

Who Should Use RESPeRATE
Whether you are already taking anti-hypertension medication or still trying to lower blood pressure with diet and exercise, RESPeRATE might just be the tool you need.

Seven clinical trials repeatedly found RESPeRATE to be safe and effective for people with high blood pressure, either medicated or unmedicated, male or female, younger and older.

One particular study, published in American Journal of Hypertension, even found that RESPeRATE delivered significant blood pressure reductions for people who had uncontrolled blood pressure despite taking three or more medications at maximum dosage.

RESPeRATE Contents:
RESPeRATE device, respiration sensor, headphones, user manual, training video, 4 AA batteries.

Please Note: RESPeRATE should only be used as part of your overall health program for achieving blood pressure goals, as recommended by your doctor. RESPeRATE can be safely used in conjunction with medication and lifestyle modification such as diet and exercise.

5-0 out of 5 stars The first week - Love it.
1. It's an eligible expense in my Flexible Spending Account, or I would not have spent the money. Or at least not as easily. 2. If you have a personality like me, such a relaxation tool suits my routine-driven life. 3. I use it at work and in my commute to work. Easy to just be aware of my breath and still do other things. Good coping skills when I need them - traffic and work stress. 4. I've seen time and time again, taking blood pressure at different breathing rates and different thoughts in mind - makes a huge difference. 5. I'm in more control than I acknowledged. Allowing frenzy is a choice too. Choose differently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Consider the cost of medications as well
My blood pressure gradually crept up over the years, and the diagnosis of "labile hypertension" changed to simply "hypertension." Saw this device online, and decided to give it a try. It has made the difference between starting medication and not having to take one.

Yes, this IS pricey. But so was the non-generic medication my cardiologist was considering. I have prescription drug coverage, but copayments quickly add up, especially for non-generic. So, I bought the Resperate, knowing I could try it and return it if I didn't like it and/or it didn't have the desired effect.

But overall, I do like it--a lot. And it has had a beneficial effect on my blood pressure. After less than two weeks using this, at my next MD visit I learned that my systolic blood pressure (top number) had dropped 14 points, the diastolic blood pressure (bottom number) had dropped 3 points.

When the Resperate arrived, I was a little overwhelmed, so I asked a techie person to walk me through the set up. Turns out it was a LOT easier than I'd anticipated.

The basic premise is that blood pressure can be changed by breathing more slowly and deeply. This little machine actually "analyzes" your breathing pattern in the here and now. It first "senses" where you are using feedback from the sensor on an elastic belt, then gives you immediate feedback (initially through the screen, then through the melody) about how to slow your breathing, breath by breath. The default time for a training session is 15 minutes. The goal, however, is to accumulate 45 minutes of EFFECTIVE breath training per WEEK. (Effective is defined as breathing fewer than 10 times per minute.) The manual states that while your breathing will return to a higher rate, the positive mpact on your sympathetic nervous system carries over.

Scheduling the use of the Resperate into my routine as part of bedtime preparation has worked best for me. Initially I used it every night to help establish its use as a habit. Using the Resperate is relaxing; I also find I sleep more deeply on the nights I use it.

I did try the different "melodies"--there are five to choose from. I like three. (One of them I found irritating, another was so-so.)

NOTE: There is a statistics function that can provide detailed info, but if more than one person uses the device, the stats would be meaningless. I would like to see the manufacturer add a user 1, user 2 option. It seems unreasonable to have to buy a separate device for each user in a household, but that is what you would have to do if you planned to use the statistics function with more than one user.

A word of caution for those with pets, small children or grandchildren: Don't leave this out, with its tempting cords and elastic belt! The manufacturer suggests stuffing the cords and belt into the device. I found this tiresome, since the cords tended to tangle. However, the headphones do store well on the device itself. A gallon size freezer bag is easier to use. This will keep those tempting cords away from inquisitive pets. Or just put it back into the box or store it in the drawer of your bedside table.

BOTTOM LINE: Buy this only if you are willing to put in both the time and the effort required to see results. That translates into roughly an hour a week for at least a month--for the buy/keep decision--and 45 minutes a week indefinitely. Also, keep the receipt in case you find it isn't right for you, for whatever reason.

Another reviewer pointed out that using this device is, in effect, meditation. That's true. I've used meditation CDs--including one specifically on meditation through breathing. They were helpful. But in my experience, none of them have been as easy and as foolproof to use as this device.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for the body but a bit expensive
I gave it five stars because this device facilites states common to MEDITATION, but I probably shouldn't say things like MEDITATION here, because then you guys might go and look up things like MEDITATION and realize that Meditation, is free and you don't need 290 dollars to do it.

However, if you bought this device and say a book on meditation well then you'd really be set. Especially if your still green to the concept. Thomas Cleary is the King.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unexpected benefits!
I bought the RESPeRATE as a preventative to a slightly elevated BP reading in January. It did exactly what is was supposed to do - it decreased my PB significantly (13 pts) within a few weeks. But the other effect I noticed was a general feeling of well-being and increased positive outlook on life. There is considerable evidence now that mindfulness training has positive temporary and possibly permanent effects on brain function (see http://psyphz.psych.wisc.edu/).Using the RESPeRATE seems to be having this effect for me as well.As a mental health professional, it is critical that my mind and body be in an optimal state so that my patients can achieve a similar state within themselves.Congratulations to InterCure for making such a terrific device.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works if you work at it...
I recently reviewed the medical literature and there are several proven therapies (other than prescription medications) for treatment of hypertension. This machine is one of those therapies.

The most effective therapy for lowering blood pressure without medication is walking (working up to 15 to 20 miles a week...less than 10 miles a week has little effect). For more on the new minimum recommendations about walking, visit the new government sponsored food pyramid and carefull read the recommendations about exercise...the new guidelines differ greatly from the old "20 or 30 minutes, 2 or 3 times a week (a recipe for obesity and hypertension):http://www.mypyramid.gov.

In addition to walking, proven therapies (greatly reduced in effectiveness compared with walking) include a vegetarian diet as well as several supplements (garlic and CoQ-10 are two of several) that also may benefit.

Working in synergy, a dramatic and effective lowering of blood pressure can be obtained.Use this machine in conjunction with a daily walk (with your doctor's permission) of 3 miles (7 days a week) and with a diet as recommended in "The Abs Diet" and it would be difficult to keep from lowering your blood pressure.

I do have patients who were helped; those who were not helped made no other real changes.Use this machine without any other changes in lifestyle, and I doubt that you will see a worthwile result.

The device is very relaxing to use.I recommend that you walk during the day and use this device as an afternoon refreshment for energy or before bedtime to improve sleep (as well as help for blood pressure). But, don't waste your money if you're not willing to walk at least 15 miles a week.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice unit, useless pouch
The unit itself works quite well. It does its job without fuss, and it has a lot more memory locations than you need - 60.
Onen of the reasons I bought it was because of the pouch. I hated using the box for storage for my old one. Well, the pouch itself is quite fine, but you cannot really really store the unit without pressing the on/off button while you are just zipping it or carying it around. One solution: take the batteries off before storing it.
I would have given it four (maybe five) stars, but the pouch was an important part of my buying decision, and I am not able to use it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A solid device, worth the price
I looked at a lot of different items in this category, and decided on this one. You pay a LOT for automatic inflation, and that's easy enough to do yourself.

Operation is very simple and gives quick results. Deflation of the cuff is managed by the unit (with a user-controlled quick deflate should you want to quit), and I've never thought is was uncomfortably tight. After a minute or so, you have a BP and pulse measurement. No hassle.

The memory feature is a little hard to understand, and doesn't have a time stamp. That aside, instructions are clear and measurements seem reliable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate Wrist BP Monitor
I compared it to the best rated the WalMart brand ReliOn brand It matched the readings within a 1 to 2 points. I made sure that my ReliOn was accurate using a stethoscope and also by comparing with a manual unit many times.

HEM-637 is quiter and much smaller than the ReliOn. One feature I like is that it does not start unless held in the correct poisition. The key is to hold the hand steady, not move, or talk. To hold the arm steady, rest the plam just below the opposite shoulder. Also, make sure that the wrist does not touch the chest to avoid getting erroneous reading.

It is, however, $30 more expensive than the ReliOn. Consider purchasing it if you are a traveller or have uncontrolled BP. It will allow you to track BP under various stress conditions (work) without being noticed.

It stores 99 readings with date and time making recoredkeeping easy. The lack of PC software is not an issue for me. I find manual recordkeeping is faster and quite adequate.

3-0 out of 5 stars Important Missing Feature
This is a good unit for monitoring blood pressure.Purchasers should know ahead that measuring blood pressure with a wrist style monitor is sensitive to arm position. The Intellisense system verifies your arm position before it takes a measurement, making it more consistent than units that do not.(Missing Feature) I lowered the rating to 3 stars because the unit is equipped with an interface port, which if you purchase the unit in Europe or Asia it also comes with software (missing in USA) and a cable (missing in USA) that allows you to download the data to your pc and share with the doctor.Omron refuses to support this feature in the USA (hence my aggravation) ... Amazon.com Review

To allow for the inevitable dips and spikes in blood pressure over thecourse of 24 hours, it's a good idea to take readings at the same time and underthe same conditions every day. The ideal time to measure "base blood pressure"is in the morning just after waking up, before daily activities like eating andexercising can alter the results. Hence, the Lumiscope 1080 blood-pressuremonitor, a sturdy, larger-sized model that also functions as an alarm clock soyou can put it beside your bed and reach for it as soon as you wake up. Thepreformed arm cuff with positioning label is easy and quick to fit with onehand, and during the day, it stores away neatly in the monitor's self-containedcase. (The cuff also fits those with an arm circumference of 12-1/2 to 16-1/2inches--a larger size than typical models). It automatically inflates to theappropriate level for your individual blood pressure, and then deflates at thecorrect rate. The extra large display alternately shows blood pressure and pulserate, and the monitor turns off automatically after several minutes without use,to save those AA batteries. Best of all, the memory function stores up to 30measurements and displays them (in both numeric and graphic form) from mostrecent to oldest or as average values. You don't even need to write down yourblood-pressure readings in order to track them, although a blood-pressure recordlog is included in case you'd like to. --Mary Park ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed.
I bought this unit in January of 2002. I was satisfied at first, using it once or twice a week. It seemed to work as advertised. Within six weeks of puchase the digital display started losing portions of the characters, finally to the point that it became unusable. I followed the warranty instructions and sent the entire paakage back to Lumiscope along with a check for [money] fro return shipping and handling. My biggest complaint is that I cannot get any information from this company in regards to the "possible" return of my unit repaired or replaced. It has been gone for approximately six weeks. I have sent numerous e-mails to their service department. I have made numerous phone calls and left messages for their service department,(they won't answer the phone, voice mail only). I have not received one response. You would think that this company would at least have the courtesy to let you know that they have the product you puchased from them in some type of system and respond to their "customer" with some type of expectation that they are working on your issue. Nothing!!

At this point due to health issues, I have given up and will have to purchase something else, NOT FROM LUMISCOPE!!

Bottom line, don't waste your time or money on this companies products. They are not good for your blood pressure.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lumiscope 1080: Not Exactly "Old Reliable"
It was with some enthuisiam and a blood pressure reading of 133/90 that I opened my Lumiscope 1080 Blood Pressure monitor and started to read the directions to program it. After reading the manual that didn't seem to apply to my machine and finding with some annoyance that I was totally unable to dis-able the beeping alarm feature to remind you to take your blood pressure every day, my own climbed just a tad. My husband, whose blood pressure that never exceeds 120/75 even when reading vague little manuals for electronic gadgets, programmed the settings for me.

I used it daily for just over 3 months, finding it easy enough to use and accurate when tested against my doctor's office machine. (I set the annoying beeper alarm to the middle of the day so it would rouse my dogs from slumber and nudge their blood pressure just a bit. The only thing was that the days I was at home, the beeper always managed to startle me when I was trying to take a nap.) The read-out display screen was easy to read but the 30 day graph display so small as to make me run around looking for a magnifying glass - which would have helped raise my heart rate, but unnecessarily use up too much of my limited spare time for exercise.

A few weeks ago, just as I was marvelling at the results of a healthier life-style on my blood pressure, the batteries seemingly ran out. Two changes of batteries succeeded only in allowing partially visible read-outs and obviously wrong readings (90/60, I don't think so!, and )I realized it was not working at all. After rummaging for a box, scrambling through the manual for the service center address,... and rushing to the post office before sprinting for the train, my blood pressure has gone up more than a few points, especially since I couldn't find the receipt and had to get a copy of my credit card bill. I did a little research with the nurse at my doctor's office before buying this. I bought the more expensive Lumiscope after hearing how unreliable the cheaper models are, but alas this one seems no better than the rest. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I had to visit a hospital
The nurse used this on me and the cuff felt like a balloon or floatie. It felt funny against my skin like a hug.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Little Kit
I bought this kit to practice for an EMT class I'm taking. The stethoscope has a clear sound, and there the soft ear buds make for a more comfortable fit than the standard hard plastic ones.
For use in the field, I'd probably buy a better -scope, but this suits the needs of one needing something for home/class use. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

For patients with hypertension, home monitoring can help detectdangerous blood-pressure spikes before they cause problems. Trackingmeasurements over time also gives a better overall picture of health than asingle reading at a hospital or clinic, where nervousness can often distortresults. But the most sophisticated blood-pressure monitor in the world won't doa thing for hypertension if you need a nurse to help you use it. The Lumiscopeself-taking blood-pressure monitor makes it possible to take the same kind ofextremely accurate blood-pressure readings you get in the doctor's office, allwithout leaving your home. It's lightweight and highly portable, so you can keeptrack of your health on the road. And like most manual blood-pressure monitors,it's relatively unaffected by small movements and is not especially fussy aboutcuff placement and arm positioning. The D-bar style cuff makes it easy to get agood fit when you're taking your own blood pressure and have only one hand free:just pull down and cinch tight. The attached stethoscope is also a must ifyou're going solo. The measurement process involves letting the pressure out atthe correct rate while listening for the thump through the stethoscope andsimultaneously taking two readings on the gauge. The entire process requires acertain degree of coordination and is best employed after a few practice runs inthe doctor's office. The bottom line: this is one of the easier-to-use manualmodels around, but it's still best if you have someone to help. --MaryPark ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Monitoring my BP in San Jose CA
It's a pretty good deal for the price. I have a hard time hearing my heartbeat "thump" thru the stethoscope so I had a friend try it. She said the sound was a bit faint but she was able to take the reading on the first try. That's the only drawback to this product that I can see. I'm sure that with more practice I will be able to do it myself so I am going to keep trying. It's simple to use and one person (yourself) can do it.
I think it's a great way monitor your blood pressure and to watch for significant changes so you can alert your doctor before it's too late.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quality looks good, but cuff is way too small
The size limitation is not listed on the Amazon site, but accordingto the Lumiscope help line this model is limited to arm circumferences 12.5" or less. That's too small for an adult male with average musculature.I'm no muscle-man but my arm is 13" around the biceps, and the cuff was not even close to big enough.I had to return mine to Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good set.
This is a nice set; cheap enough, the right essentials, and simple.I do not use the BP moniter itself however, I bought the set for the stethoscope.Reason being, it's near impossible to find a stethoscope by itself now adays.Anyways, the stethoscope is simple but effective; my heartbeat sounds clear and I can hear my breathing very well. The leather case is a nice touch, and I always keep my steth in there.I recommend this set to anyone, not just needing a BP moniter, but to anyone who might be interested in this sort of thing; I am.If you have no need for the moniter, the stethoscope is still fun to have. ...
