The old model speed and distance...
I purchased the original model of the speed and distance monitor some 3(?) years ago.I have gone through 3 batteries on the watch and countless batteries on the gps unit.Through all this use it has been an excellent tool for training and really helps with motivation by giving instant feed-back.

Before this model came out I wore my Timex H/R monitor on one wrist and the Speed and Distance on the other (I'm sure I looked like quite the geek).I had to manualy record all the info in my work-out log...This new model combines 2 excellent products and takes the drudgery out of keeping a log book... where am I going with this?... I'm getting mine!If you get one too I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Accurate, Tough, But Be Careful Changing the Battery
This is an excellent Speed & Distance Monitor. Very simple to use & accurate right out of the box.If you want to get it near 100% you have to calibrate it to your running style on a track.It fits on the laces of your running shoe.I use it on my left shoe w. no problems. Its so light & out of the way, you won't even notice it is there. I've used it in the rain & in mud on trails & it is still going strong.

One word of advice.Be very careful when changing the battery. There is a little spring thats lightly soldered onto the battery terminal that easily pops off if you open it too fast or aggressively. Without it the whole unit will not work. The spring is literally the size of a grain of uncooked rice. If it falls off you just resolder it back on.

One con is that the buttons are very hard to push & require you to hold them down for 3 seconds to shut the unit off or reset the chrono. Also its near impossible to read your milage while running.You have to stop to read. Finally Nike's customer support or parts available for this unit is almost nonexistant.

I freakin' love this thing
I've been using it for 2 years, and have put almost 600 miles on it.It's very easy to use.Just make sure you go to a track at the local high school and calibrate it.

I've never experienced any of the random data loss stuff that the other reviewer mentioned.I can run down the battery (1 AAA battery) and replace it and not lose my data.But then, I am careful to not get it wet.I don't run in the rain, I avoid puddles if I can.It says that it's splashproof, not waterproof.

If you want to be inspired to get out there and run or walk more, then this thing is great.I like that it keeps in odometer of all the miles I put on it, it just makes me want to add more to it.I also like that it tracks my pace, so I know how long it takes me to go a mile.This way I can try to beat that time too and workout harder.

Good workout tool...when it wants to work.
Both my younger brother and me bought one of these SDM for running after looking at all the options in the market.GPS based units won't work because of running under heavy tree cover and regular pedometers don't work well for running because my stride length varies based on how far and fast I am going.Also, I wanted something that would measure speed and not just distance ran, so this unit seemed to fit my needs best.There are some good and bad things about this unit, which are all explained below, but overall after 6 months of use, I would not recommend this to anybody.Due to the main con, which is the unit turning off on it's own and losing data constantly it is not worth $100 since $15 pedometers can at least measure distance without losing data.Until they fix this problem I won't be buying another Nike SDM anytime soon, I can't even explain how frustrated I get when I run numerous miles and get home only to look at a blank display instead of the data that should be on there.Read on for all the pros and cons:

Pros

Accuracy

First off, this SDM is accurate out of the box I've never even had to take the time to calibrate it for my stride length or anything like a pedometer would have to be.Using this is a lot easier than trying to measure the distance in a car every time you run in a new route.

Shoe mounting

This SDM mounts on a shoe and this was a big plus for me.I already have an mp3 player on my waistline when I run and didn't want another thing there so the shoe mounting really works out.I have a couple pairs of shoes I wear for running and regardless of which one I wear this unit does not get in the way or restrict movement in any way.It is also lightweight and doesn't weigh the foot down that it is mounted to, you can't tell that it is there.

Cons

Unknown shutdowns

This is above and beyond all other problems the one that makes this unit a questionable purchase.About 1 out of every 5 runs the SDM will just lose all data in the middle of a run.Sometimes it will shut off and not be able to turn back on without removing the battery and putting it back in and other times it will just lose all data and the display will show 0.00, as if you hadn't run anywhere. Once you get it back on and press start, it will automatically display the previous runs data, even though it was cleared off and you were recording a new run...it's as if the new run never happened.One time I've even had it shut off and clear the overall odometer back to 0, but somehow the next day it was back to displaying what it previously had.Another time, I stopped during a run to switch the display from distance to pace and this caused it to shut down...overall it just does it whenever it wants to.This is a big problem because I have lost some of my fastest and longest runs this way and have no idea just how good I was doing.When I contacted Nike support they blamed this on the battery dying, or losing contact with the battery cover??But in all cases this has happened to both me and my brother the battery was in almost brand new condition (I put it in my mp3 player that also takes one AAA battery and looked at the battery gauge).I've found that once you take out the battery and put it back in the unit will work.So, for my runs I've now started pulling out the battery and putting it back in before I go, which is a real pain.My younger brother also tried calibrating the unit using the way set forth in the instruction manual to see if this would help fix this problem but it does not.

Instructions

The instructions for this SDM are ridiculously horrible.They consist of about 5 pages that basically tell you how to turn it on and off and calibrate and that's it.There is no explanation about things you need to know such as which way the battery goes in or the units of measure.For instance, when using the SDM Pace function it gives you a number such as 7.00 on the display but the instructions tell you nothing about what this means.For those who are wondering I had to contact support to figure it out, it is minutes per mile not miles per hour.

Support

There is no contact information for Nike support on the box or instruction manual and when you go to look at www.nike.com it gives you a tree of about 30 different websites for you to figure it out from. For those wondering here, the website you want is www.nikerunning.com, and the Nike Running support number is 1-800-595-6453.I should mention however that once I found the support number they usually answer in a matter of one or two rings with no hold time or automated voice mail systems, they are knowledgeable, and speak English, the problem was finding out how to contact them in the first place, it should be listed on the box or manual.

No battery gauge

Once the battery runs out the unit just dies, there is no battery gauge or otherwise warning that I have seen when it happens, this is a problem because you don't know when it is coming.However, the battery does last a very long time before needing replacement, I would say the 70 hour estimate given by Nike would be close.

Display

While having the unit on a shoe is good for comfort and ease of use it is hard to see.I knew when I bought this that it didn't have a backlight so that you can see the display at night, but really it would be better off having that option.The other problem is that while running you have to stop in order to be able to look down and see what is going on, it is not possible to read while running.And you need to stop and look down pretty often so that when it shuts off for no reason as it seems to like doing you can at least have an estimate of the data.

Controls

While the controls are very simple (2 buttons) they are hard to push in once you bring the black flap over them.You have to push in with your finger pretty hard to get anything to happen.

Not waterproof

For something that mounts on your shoe I think that this unit should be waterproof, but it is not.Therefore whenever it is wet out or about to rain, I choose not to use this unit so I don't know if it just fries when water hits it or what.

Shipped DOA

Last problem here, both my unit and my brothers were purchased with batteries that were dead inside of them.Is it that hard to provide a working battery with a $100 pedometer?

Not consistant!
I bought this yesterday in order to replace another scale I've used for years that just does weight. My old scale was a Health-o-meter scale, and was accurate and consistant, so I stayed with the brand when picking a new one.

Set up was easy, but after that it was all downhill. I weighed myself the first time and it said I was 15 lbs. lighter than my other scale. That got me worried. I weighed again a minute later, and I was 10 lbs. down from that. Another minute, another 6 lbs. down. So in the span of 3 minutes I apparently lost about 30 lbs. And a couple of times, it would pop up with a big fat "E" instead of my weight, despite me standing on it the exact same way each time.

I don't even know about the BF%, but if it can't even accurately measure my weight...

I'll be returning it and sticking with my old scale for now, since there are web sites I can estimate my BF% on.And when I do decide to buy another BF% scale, it won't be a Health-o-meter. ... Read more

Broke under light use in less than 6 months.
At first this scale looks like its build with a lot of quality craftsmanship.Then after 6 months with light use (I'm 180lbs and girlfriend is 130lbs) it suddenly stops working.The exterior seems to have a heavy steel frame, but the area with the weight dial (w/ numbers) and the arm that gives you the weight reading must have cost about $.10.It seems that the weight is written on a piece of card paper or plastic.It just came out of its setting and the arm doesnt move anymore.I couldn't figure out how to open it up and fix it either.This scale is not worth the money and completely misrepresented as "quality".I'll never buy Taylor again.

Additional Information:I emailed Taylor about warranty information and they will replace the scale free of charge without a receipt.They only require you to ship your broken scale to them, which isnt cheap.At least they stand by their product even though mine broke so easily. ... Read more

Overall Quality
After 4 months of limited useage in an EMS coursethe Lumiiscope failed entirely on me.I can't say it was the same model (the model isn't printed on the thing)but ...it was a close model. It is not one that I want to rely on however.

The model I have was never used over 20 times. Then one day I tried to take a BP and it choked above 40....then suddenly sprang to 300 and the proverbial "ping" occured.It decided after that everything was 120!~

I'm saving the cuff...but ..I really don't want to go back to that day when I had to rely on it.

Works fine.Readings match doctor's office and devices in pharmacies for customer use.
BUT, if the machines in pharmacies sometimes fail to give you a reading at all, you may not be able to hear the pulse on this stethoscope.
The product works fine for me.Useless for my wife (for reason noted above).

For the price range, best thing I've found
As far as the price goes, this BP moniter is not bad.It was 25 bucks Canadian, at least for me, and does what it's told.Unfortunately, I don't know how to get proper readings, but I just use it for fun.The stethoscope is the main reason I bought it, as I can't seem to find any that don't come with BP moniters.The steth's ear pieces are uncomfortable, but you get used to it.Anyways, the stethoscope made it worth it, and I have the moniter around to use sometimes when I get bored.Worth the money, to me for sure. ... Incredible Little Item
I am a nurse. I saw one of these blood pressure cuffs being used by another nurse, and asked her about it, then, promptly ordered one for myself. At that time it was 100.00, through a cnursing catalogue. I work in a busy rehab center where I take atleast 8-20 blood pressures daily. What my patients say about this is, "Wow, it didn't tighten my arm at all." "Didn't hurt a bit." "I've never seen one like it."
A doctor and myself measured readings done manually and readings done by this little machine, and found either way to be only a couple of numbers different.
My mom loves it, and we found the same model on Amazon for alot cheaper than 100.00. I have had poor experiences with another wrist blood pressure monitor that was 39.99. This little Omron is quick, easy, and correct.
Some of it's features: If you move your arm while you take the blood pressure, it shows an E for error. The batteries last about three motnhs. On this model, there is no battery indicator. It stores over 10 blood pressure readings. It also measures the pulse. There's no date or time stamp, but I didn't have good luck with the model with that feature.
To me, every house should have one of these cuffs, not the cheaper priced cuffs that donot work. I've used it at home and at work consistently, and I will buy the exact same cuff again. I hope Omron doesn't stop making them.

Initial impressions

Lots of plus points, one negative.I'll start with the positives.

First, impressive packaging.Someone put a lot of thought into a really neatly designed pack that was easy to open and protected the scale and its equipment extremely well.UPS handled the shipment well, but even if they hadn't I think the scale would have come through ok.

Next, the scale and the remote display have a quality 'feel' about them.They have a painted satin stainless steel finish which appears to be quite durable and is warm to the touch.If it was real stainless steel I doubt it would be pleasant to step onto on a cold morning!

There are four individual memory settings, and one guest setting with no memory.The scale just has an LCD readout for your weight, but the wireless remote unit also displays the time, date, weight and Body Mass Index (BMI is an indication of the amount of fat you're carrying!).These figures can be recalled at the touch of a button so you see how well (or badly) you're progressing over time.The scale switches off when not in use and the remote display shows the time and date when on standby.The remote display requires two screws to hang it on a vertical surface, or it has legs which can support it on a counter top.

To weigh yourself you step on the scale, stand still, and wait for a couple of seconds so it can register your weight and beep.You then press a button on the remote display to see the weight come up, and then press a button to select your memory slot (1, 2, 3 or 4).Next, press and hold the "MEM' button for a couple of seconds, which enters that reading into memory and alternately displays your weight and BMI.This all takes longer to explain than to perform.

The readings appear to be repeatable to within a couple of decimal points or so.They claim to 0.02lb which seems to stand up.

Now for the negative.............. the instructions (or lack thereof).As well as being written out of order (how to change the date is on page one, but how to actually install the batteries and perform an essential synchronization is a secret until page five), the procedure for entering your height, which is essential for measuring your BMI, is entirely missing!!!

I used the free customer service number (fifteen minute wait) to find out what to do.They knew exactly what I wanted, hooray, but couldn't explain why it was missing from the instructions, boo!Anyhow, to save you a phone call, the procedure to set your height is to first press the top left button, then select the user number.Then, press and hold the 'SET' button until the display flashes, when you set your height with the arrow buttons.Finally, press 'SET' again.Repeat the process for other users.Phew!

Finally, Amazon had the best price and, as usual, delivered several days before anticipated (got to love that!).The abysmal instructions cost Oregon Scientific one star. ... Read more

How can Dr. Bhatia say the Lumiscope monitor 1095 is reliable without providing a comparison with a manual monitor? He should know better because he is a doctor.

I am a physician who uses this Lumiscope 1095 for my own BP monitoring.I like the fact that it can be used on the cuff itself & it takes your BP on inflation. I just gave one to my brother too.

Not working
The monitor does power on, but did not pump air to inflate, and all it showed just error message, no blood pressure reading at all.

I really need a beeper/pager attached to this thing because I've lost the first one I bought. I'm ordering another one, it's that good.

It was very accurate. It picked up my jogging steps, walking steps but did not count just general jiggling. It was intuitive and easy to use. For a small machine it told a large amount of information- number of steps, time, time walked, distance walked.
