5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent device
I looked at numerous devices before settling on this one because it seemed easy to use (and I don't need another watch). I calibrated it against manually reading my pulse and found it to be accurate. To use, place your first finger on the sensor, stay calm (!), then click the button. Wiggling will destroy the reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for taking resting heart rate in the morning
The 6102 works well for getting my resting heart rate first thing in the morning. The display is large enough to read without reading glasses, too.I have not tried using it during exercise, as I already have a Polar HRM.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
For the price, this is a good item. When readings were compared to a more expensive brand and the gym equipment it was accurate. Only drawback is, you will get an error reading if you are in the midst of strenuous activity that prevents you from being still enough for it to register, but still a good buy for under $50.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surest Way to Your Heart
I've had one for a couple of years and use it to track my heart rate in a Winter Conditioning class for cyclists. It's much handier than the ones that require a strap. It also doesn't get interference from other heart monitors - in my class, those with the strap-type monitors have to position their bikes (stationary) just so to avoid picking up stray beats. I've compared its results to those on treadmills, etc., and it's consistent with what it reports for my heart rate. My only complaint is that the battery is prone to dislocate itself, and I have to open the back and reposition it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not to impressed
Works about a third of the time. I have gone back to measuring the old fashion way (finger on the neck.) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Heart Rate Monitor
I was reluctant about purchasing the HR308 since I could not find a good review on the product. Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I was also considering Polar and Acumen products but as far as value goes the HR308 takes the prize.
This product has all the features a beginner would expect and would satisfy most intermediate users as well. I believe that the smart trainer program benefits are a little overstated. Basically after entering age/sex/weight/height the HR308 sets your target zones for you. It does a fairly good job doing that and has the option of audible out of range alarms while training. You have two options as far as exercising goes. Either use a timer or a stopwatch. In these two modes the HR308 shows instantaneous heart rate and time and logs calories burned/percent (of calories) fat/in zone/average heart rate/total time. You can see calories burned and percent fat during exercise and all quantities after the exercise. Although I have not used a Polar F4, reading through the specifications I would say that the HR308 compares to the F4, feature wise.
Performance wise I'm also satisfied. The chest strap is comfortable and has lost my rate maybe two or three times in over 50 hours of use, mostly because of the strap slipping down. You can replace the batteries in both the watch and the strap on your own which is important in the long run. Although I have not tested it, the strap is supposed to be splash resistant but is not recommended for swimming. Accuracy is good. I checked the pulse a couple of times during the first few times I used the HR308 and it was right on the mark. One minor annoyance is interference. I do not train indoors but the HR308 looses reception in my car due to interference. This may cause some problems in a gym.
Overall I'm very satisfied with the unit. Compared to Polar F4 it has about the same features, it is much cheaper and you can change the batteries on you own. Polar F4 would be a better choice for swimmers, however. Compared to the Acumen Basix it has a chronometer which was important for me. HR308 is much cheaper then the comparable (feature wise) Acumen Basix Plus. Unless you intend to use the heart meter in the water (which I heard is difficult with the Polar F4 as well, but possible) or need more features then the Oregon Scientific HR308 offers the best value.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but there are cheaper ways to do this.
This works great.I actually have no problems with this heart rate monitor.I just used a friends heart rate monitor and it worked just as good for 1/3 the price. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars new from the good people at oregon scientific
did you know that Oregon was real high-tech?Neither did I.But apparently there is some book out there about how to name your schlock company. You take the place the company is located, then add the word scientific.Never mind that your products have obvious design and performance flaws and should never have left the "laboratory."Just add the word scientific and hope that you will net the cheapskate pseudofitness crowd - you know, the kind of people who are too negligent to care if their pedometer is wildly inaccurate and actually hope that the pedometer is reading high... way high.

5-0 out of 5 stars this product works beautifully
You know when you are on a treadmill or bike that has a pulse sensor? You have to grab onto the sensors the whole time to monitor your pulse rate.I had this on while I was on the Polar treadmill at my gym and while wiping my forehead I realized that I did not lose the heartrate when I took my hands from the handles. It turns out that the treadmill picks up the signal from the transmitter you wear around your chest and accurately displays the results on the screen. It was like freedom. I could run in a normal fashion, not holding onto those bars. I also didn't need to wear the watch while on the treadmill, which was nice while in the gym.It works very well outside as well using the alarm to keep your target heartrate in check. The only problem I had was that the battery it came with died after 2 months and wasn't that easy to change.I think it may have been on a shelf for a year or more.

3-0 out of 5 stars Works well but strap is too big
I used to have a Polar heart monitor but lost the watch.I decided to go with this model because it's less expensive. I have an average women's size body and the adjustable strap that goes around your chest is too big for me.Since the smallest that the strap adjusts to is too big, I have it adjusted with a bunch of the strap material flopping around on my back (I didn't have this problem with Polar). It's annoying and will require a sewing experiment some time soon. The heart monitor part works well though.Mine came with a neato bag and bike or exercise equipment holder for the transmitter (watch). ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars useless
This device is useless for monitoring pulse during activity. One must be absolutely still for the meter to get a clear signal.Nor is it useful for monitoring resting pulse, as it seems unable to pick up a pulse unless the heart is pounding. At best, this device MIGHT manage to acurately read a pulse AFTER a strenuous activity is concluded.

4-0 out of 5 stars Accurate...but!
I have owned this pulse meter for approximately 2 weeks and I find it to be accurate, but it takes a while for it to give a reading. The first few times I used it, it took over a minute to tell me my pulse. However, the manual does state that when you become used to the correct positioning of your finger on the sensor it will give a result faster. So far, this is true, as within the last 3 days, I have received readings within 10 seconds consistently. Considering the price, it was a good purchase. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The old model speed and distance...
I purchased the original model of the speed and distance monitor some 3(?) years ago.I have gone through 3 batteries on the watch and countless batteries on the gps unit.Through all this use it has been an excellent tool for training and really helps with motivation by giving instant feed-back.

Before this model came out I wore my Timex H/R monitor on one wrist and the Speed and Distance on the other (I'm sure I looked like quite the geek).I had to manualy record all the info in my work-out log...This new model combines 2 excellent products and takes the drudgery out of keeping a log book... where am I going with this?... I'm getting mine!If you get one too I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Product Description

The Polar S625X is like having a performance lab with you on every workout. All the heart rate, running and cycling data you will ever need is available right on your wrist. The S625X delivers continuous running speed without relying on where satellites are positioned. With the optional cycling and power sensors and enhanced training tools like the Polar OwnOptimizer recovery test, plus altitude and ascent for route profile, the Polar S625X lets you cross train and put the power of information to work for you. The Polar S625X is a combine heart rate monitor and running speed and distance device. It comes with the S-1 foot pod- Polar's footpod technology is highly accurate-- It is not a pedometer, it does not count steps, nor does it rely on an equal stride length. The Polar footpod measures 360 degree, 3-D, forces of inertia (speed, magnitude, impact, direction etc). These sensitive accelerometers then translate these measurements in to realtime speed and distance-- with approximately 95-97% accuracy. For cyclists, the Polar S625X Running Computer is fully compatible with all Polar cycling sensors (speed, distance, cadence and power output). Base your training on heart rate, speed, cadence, altitude and optional power output information. The Complete Cycling System consists of a Bike Mount Set, Speed and Cadence Sensors and an optional Power Output Sensor Set. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Running Machine
I bought mine on November 2004 right after have finished a 10k race. As my ultimate goal was to run well a marathon(my first one) I started my training using the 625x. From day one i have been saving all training information in my Laptop. The Infrared connection and software works flawlessly. First the watch has an auto lap function, for every mile it automatically records the lap time, second it gives me temperature and elevation( very useful for hill training). I could also set the timer to remind me of drinking water every 20 minutes and some other cool features like creating your own interval trainning and check your VO2max. Using the software I clearly can see my progress since I started. I'm really happy with my purchase and I would recommend to everybody looking for a great running tool. Just make sure you calibrate the food pod to match your foot stride.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beta Product, Not ready for consumers!!
This is the third polar product I have bought, no problems with the first two. THe 625 X is a real training computer, when it works. Initially everything worked fine, but when the foot pod started asking for battery replacement the problems began. First was the foot pod's on/off switch, got broken. I sent it to the Service Center and got repaired, but stop working again a week later. Then I sent it to the Warranty Center and told me they would send a new one, got the same one, with the same malfunction. Called Customer Service, and after 20 minutes waiting on the line they suggest to replace the battery, no luck. Will keep trying.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works
Works great. The distance is very accurate.I run the same routes over and over and it always comes up with the same mileage.

It is very well made. The software is functional though the UI is a little weird.I have used the Polar software for three years and they continue to update it. ... Read more
