1-0 out of 5 stars A fatal design flaw makes this unit quite painful
I have had a previous model panasonic trimmer, but it gave up the ghost and I had to replace it.So I went with another Panasonic.

My old Panasonic didn't hurt. Its blades were configured to hit the hairs at a more right angle, cutting cleanly and quickly.Hairs could only enter the cutting zone of the head on the SIDES of the cutter, not on the tip.

This (reviewed) unit allows hairs to enter the END of the cutter, where they are TWISTED out of your skin.It hurts like crazy - and I'm highly pain tolerant.I think they must have done it to make the tip smaller. But it's a totally ineffective compromise. It made my eyes water and started an insane sneezing fit.Entertaining for my wife, yes, but this thing is no good. Not even worth returning - this is hitting the trash can.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vital

As I learned in the course of making my 2 instructional dvds for adults, "New Sex Now" and "Goddess Worship", good personal grooming is vital for creating intimacy and close relationships. I would highly advise that anyone with an ear and/or nose hair "issue" to use one of these groomers or one like it in order to deal with the issue and make it a non-issue. Small things like a few stray hairs sticking out of the wrong place on your body could damage or eliminate your chances with a given individual, and thus make you miss out on an opportunity to enjoy the sweetness of life.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money for something else
I took the trimmer out and pop a new battery in and it didn't even start. I heard there might be some quality issue with this product but this is ridicules. I didn't even had a chance to use it.
    ** Update **
Amazon immediately sent a replacement and I received it in 4 days. The trimmer seems to pull the hairs out of the nose in order to cut them. This is the first time I'm afraid of a nose trimmer. I will recommend people to use with care.

1-0 out of 5 stars TRIMMER???
It did not trim the hair but pull the hair out...It is a good accompaniment if you are on the highway for a long long trip...When you are sleepy, just trun it on and pull your nose hair...Better than any refreshing stuffs!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Painful
The first one of these I received painfully pulled hairs as it cut them.I ordered a replacement which was slightly better, but had the same problem.I would stay away from this model. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Hygiene is KEY~!
In the course of making my DVDs on sexual Mastery, NEW SEX NOW
and GODDESS WORSHIP, I had the opportunity to create some
very special intimate moments with some very amazing women,
and I can tell you that personal hygiene is KEY to creating intimacy.

It's tough to get close to a woman if you've got ugly ingrown hairs pocking up
your entire face and/or neck. The Braun cleaning system is that extra step of
caution that I use to make sure my razor is not working against me instead of
for me. My wife is extremely appreciative of my smooth, clear skin every time I shave she rubs my face with appreciation.

But by all means, do not let a less-than-smooth situation take away
any opportunities you may have to enjoy life's greatest pleasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works as Advertised
Before I switched to the Activator, used to bathe my Braun foil and cutter in alcohol after every use. It's amazing how much bacteria-attracting goop can collect in an electric razor, even if you brush it clean daily.Cleaning daily with alcohol helped clear up my skin, but was time-consuming.

Using the clean & shave system saves me time, but costs more.I found that the first cartridge I used lasted nearly 60 days even with everyday cleaning. After 45 days or so, the fluid started to darken and by about 60 days, it was too full of debris to continue to use in good conscience.I now change every 30 days, even if there is fluid remaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great with my Activator 8585
This stuff keeps my electric razor nice and clean. The lemony smell is present, and the razor head is still pristine a month later. If I travel for a few days without the base to clean the razor, I'm more likely to get razor burn on my face and neck. After a good cleaning cycle, the razor works like it's brand new!Given the choice, I'd rather use the cleaner every day instead of less frequently.

I'm not sure why people are trying their darndest to conserve the refills.Braun expects them to last about 30 days.My charging base still says "Full" and about 3/4 of the liquid is left. Hopefully I will get 2 or 3 more weeks from it since the "Half" light hasn't come on yet.

I'd probably spend as much in Mach 3 Turbo blades and shaving gel over the time I expect the cleaner to last. When I factor in the convenience of the electric razor and benefits of keeping it clean, this seems like a great product for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Be careful of shipping charges
I just placed an order for these as part of a larger order. When I looked at my shopping cart I saw that not only does this item not qualify for SuperSaver shipping, but it is back ordered into April (over a month), and the shipping charges are over $11.00 on a $7.99 item.At almost $19.00 and a months wait, no thank you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lemon fresh Shave
I agree with most reviewers that this product works great at its designed intent - to clean the razor after use, although at a high cost. Also as seen in previous reviews, besides making my Braun 7570 razor like brand new (and smelling like a bowl of Fruit-Loops) after each use, these expensive cartridges beg the user to investigate creative ways to "cheat" the system (i.e. refill them with inexpensive ingredients from the local discount drug store, plug the hole between uses to prevent evaporation, etc).I noticed that the instructions in the Clean and Charge manual tell you not to refill them, and I would worry about letting the hair and particles ferment in the bottom for too long anyhow. Also, according to the manual, the cleaner machine will quit working if you don't change the cartridge soon after it tells you to, which is another reason i haven't tried to trick it yet. Finally, the razor runs about as long in the cleaning machine as it does during a shave.Does this make the razor's motor and other moving parts wear out twice as fast in the long run?I think this self-cleaning idea is just a cash cow bearing pleasant-smelling blue milk for Braun. I give it 4 stars however, because this cleaning product actually works perfectly, and it's not really just a hunk of plastic with a half-pint of alcohol in it (although an equal amount of good Scotch would cost more than the $8.00 i paid for two of these cartridges). The cartridge is designed to trap and filter the hairs and engage with a pump in a way that is easy to install and replace.I think it does this well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars as good as waxing, but not for bikini line
I used to use wax strips to wax my legs, which were relatively fast and easy. Until I found my SilkEpil. The first time I used it I didn't even try it with the head which supposedly makes it less painful, because I am used to waxing. I was a little shocked by the pain at first, but quickly got used to it, and by the end of the session it was more like a warm sensation with no pain. I then tried it on my bikini line with the head to reduce pain. I have since decided never to try it again. Waxing is equally painful, but lasts half-a-second, where this takes 5 minutes to do a couple square inches. Very uncomfortable, I didn't even finish. However, it also comes with a shaver head which is very convenient. (you can trim your bikini hair to half a centimeter) I did both of my lower legs in 20 minutes on the first time, and have been quicker since. It also takes only a couple minutes to clean it. WELL WORTH THE MONEY. I was spending much more for the wax strips. (which are about 6 bucks per waxing, which is a fraction of the cost for professional waxing). Another benefit to this over waxing is that the hair doesn't have to be as long for it to be effective. Which is a major perk to my husband, because I don't have to go as long with gorilla legs.

In the course of making my DVDs on sexual Mastery, NEW SEX NOW
and GODDESS WORSHIP, I had the opportunity to create some
very special intimate moments with some very amazing women,
and I can tell you that personal hygiene is KEY to creating intimacy.

It's tough to get close to a woman if her leg hairs are scratchy or
disctracting. The Braun 3370 can give very good results if
used properly and if your legs hairs are responsive. My wife actually uses this
model epilator with some very good results for her (and us!) Try it or one of
the similar models on amazon, and if you don't get good results, just
sell it on the Amazon marketplace so you'll only be out a few dollars.

4-0 out of 5 stars First time buyer
If you are a first time buyer/user, do read a sample of reviews - it will help a lot in the decision making process. I thank everybody who have contributed their reviews, as it helped me make my decision. As for the product, this is the perfect thing to use when in between the waxing stages. If you are used to waxing, there is no pain. I have been waxing for the past 5 years and the pain was no more then what I experience while waxing. However, if you have never waxed before you will feel a bit of a prick and redness. Lower legs are definitely much easier to do than the upper legs - but hold you skin taut and you will be fine. The biggest challenge is figuring out how fast to move the epilator - initially I ended up breaking my hair rather than pulling it out. I definitely recommend waxing before using this product. This way you are only dealing with so much hair at a time.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best epilator
After reading reviews and wanting a hair removal system that I could use on my bikini line, underarms and legs without shaving or going to the salon for waxing, I purchased this item yesterday. Beacuse I had already shaved my legs before purchasing, I was unable to test it on my legs, but I did do it on my bikini line. I have very course dark hair on my bikini area and I have been shaving for a few weeks because I have been taking my 7 month old daughter to waterbabies classes. I put a cold ice pack on the area before starting off about 30-40 seconds and then I started. My area was already short due to last weeks shaving. As I went over the bikini area I was surprised at how little pain their was. It was like a litte pinch, but it subsided as I went along. Now the area is smooth excpet for some ingrown hairs I had to take out with tweezers because of the shaving. The after effect was redness and the feeling I just had a waxing. No pain or anything. I have tried other epilators in the past and they all went back. This one I am keeping. I will have to try it on my legs and underarms when the hair begins to grow back from shaving. This is fantastic. All ladies should try it. Just remember, in the bikini area, make sure you use the trimmier attachment to make he hairs less dense. Also try the ice if you are very sensitive to pain. I will update my review in a couple of weeks when I get to try my legs.

5-0 out of 5 stars My New Best Friend!
This item has really been a Godsend for me, I cannot praise it enough. It has given me the freedom to be able to go on vacation and wear a bikini without having to spend 45 mins in the bathroom shaving every other day, I can go to the closet and pick out a skirt or sleeveless top without having to worry that I did not shave my legs or underarms. I can be with my partner at anytime without worrying about the stubble appearing on my legs.

I honestly dont know why I did not buy this before, I think it is because my mother used to have an ancient epilator that I used once and never tried again due to the incredible pain and the fact that it barely removed any hairs.

I got to the point of being so sick of shaving every day for 15 years, I read the reveiws saying the the epilators have come a long way and and decided to try it again. The first time you use it it is very important to grit your teeth and just go for it, it hurts but you must do it, do all of the areas you usually shave including underarms and bikini line. It is true that the Braun makes epilating the knees pretty impossible but that is the only downside, it is an excellent machine, and removes 100% of hairs that are not to short for it to grasp. The hair only needs to be about 2mm for the Braun to be able to pull it. The pain releiving head really helps also, it is much like when the nurse scratches your arm prior to taking blood, it kind of very lightly scratches your skin as it goes along so that the hair pulling is not so painful, it sounds bad but is not, it makes it much easier to bear.

If you can grit your teeth and bear the first couple of times you epilate, it becomes much easier as you get used to it, the hair gets weaker and weaker every time you epilate and is removed easier every time. Dont forget the hair grows in cycles so you will have to epilate a few times, possibly every 3-4 days until all the hair is gone. After that it will stay relatively smooth for several weeks. When it does grow back it will come gradually and it will be thinner and softer, there will not be that stubbly feeling as when you shave. You will be able to get away with wearing skirts and having somebody touch your legs even while it is growing back through.

If you can bear the pain the first few times, and really give this product a chance you will be so thankful that you did, you will be so rewarded in ways that you probably would not even have noticed before. Just being able to jump into the pool when friends come over, or a spontaneous afternoon at the beach without the headache of having to prepare.

Really the epilator has given me a freedom I have wished for all my life, I am kicking myself that I did not buy it before. It is worth every penny. I could never find the time to go to the salon to get waxed, or justify the expense, and the home kits are awkward and messy, you have to be a double-jointed octopus to get to everywhere that needs waxing, and it would take a lot of boxes and a hell of a lot of time to do a whole 2 legs, bikini and underarms. So I have shaved all my life. There were never any other options, I thought about laser but it is too expensive, time consuming, and I have been told the hairs do grow back. The epilator has been my answer to the eternal hair removal dilema and this particular model is excellent, it has given me my 'hairless dream'! saved me so much time, and for only $60! Worth 10 stars and then some. ... Read more

As the only electric shaver with a four-way moving head, Braun’s Syncro System is set apart from other models. Its head both pivots and oscillates to enlarge the foil holes by 60% more than on other Braun shavers, capturing more facial hairs in a single glide. Additionally, the Syncro Shaver’s three-stage shaving system provides a closer and cleaner shave--the first foil shaves stubble and shorter hairs, the integrated cutter lifts and trims close-lying or curled hairs, and then the second foil shaves them off. An extendable trimmer also pops up for shaving longer hair, such as mustaches or sideburns. For added comfort and to reduce nicks and cuts, the head adjusts to the contours of your face.

The Syncro System operates either via a cord or cordless for up to 50 minutes (or two to three weeks of daily shaves) following a 60-minute charge. Smart Logic technology ensures that the battery is always operating at its peak. Ideal for travel, this shaver adjusts to any international voltage standards and comes with a travel pouch and a cleaning brush. --Cristina Vaamonde

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned shaver. Reconditioned generally means that the shaver has been returned to the manufacturer from the retailer due to packaging damage. Each shaver undergoes extensive testing, cleaning, and repairs to bring it back to like-new condition. Includes a 2-year warranty against defects, excluding the foil and cutter block. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy Crap!
I'd coasted along for a while on an old Norelco 3-wheel and a Panasonic 3-blade linear.Used in combination, they were not too bad, I could look presentable if I needed too, though real smoothness eluded me, particularly on the neck. But very unsatisfying...made me less interested in shaving at all.

Just got the Braun 7526...and damn, what a difference. The thing is incredible.Even without the "lectric shave" stuff I've heard helps, it's the best shave I've ever had from an electric.I can actually get smooth even on the neck, and better yet - it's not irritating at all!It is the Dyson of shavers...if you're used to old crap, you will not be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Reconditioned Braun 7526 Shaver
The shaver performs very well and provides a close shave. Our unit developed a non-functioning switch about three months after purchase. However we returned the unit to Braun and it was promptly replaced with what appears to be a new unit and returned to us. Again the returned shaver works well and we are very satisfied.

4-0 out of 5 stars better than my old razor
I bought this from amazon a couple of months ago for $49 - $20 credit that I had on account.I replaced an old norelco, and the braun gives me a much improved shave.Much closer, just as easy to use, faster moving blades, and it takes a somewhat shorter time to finish.Of course, the fact that my norelco was about 8 or 9 years old and I never sharpened the blades or oiled the rotors probably doesn't make it a fair comparison, but overall, I'm happy with the new braun.I'm just lazy and I don't want to do much maintenance, so time will tell...I am now cleaning the braun daily-ish with the brush and weekly-ish with compressed air.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this Item
Don't be fooled by the low, low price. They keep the cleaning stand, and for the price of the stand, you might as well buy a new unit (shaver and stand together) instead of trying your luck with a reconditioned shaver.I feel like I've been ripped off!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great razor! $50? $20 is even better!
I've been using this razor for about 2 months already. At first, I was disappointed because it wasn't cutting the growth on my neck close enough. I'm in the military and have to shave every working day, so having a shadow isn't acceptable. I bought some William's Lectric Shave as suggested by other Amazon reviewers and it really does make all the difference. The William's is $5 at wal-mart for a 7oz bottle (Amazon sells smaller bottles for a lower price). I've got sensitive skin and for some reason using this Braun without the William's will irritate my neck. It's still a little irritating, but not nearly as much so as the first month (especially without the William's).

Shaving takes me about 5 minutes which is only a little bit longer then with a Bic razor. This Braun does not come with the automatic cleaning stand, but brushing it clean (cleaning brush is included) with every use only takes a minute or two and is fairly easy. The Braun sometimes misses a few spots on my face, which is no big deal because it doesn't happen too often. I've been checking the shaving foil every day, there aren't any holes yet. This Braun holds a battery charge very well, the red warning light came on after using it for 3 weeks. Assuming the foil will last me another few months, I am making this Braun my permanant razor.

I paid only $20 for this Braun by signing up for the Visa card (takes $30 off) so that's a great deal. It might be refurbished, but it looks and works like new. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It lasts and lasts
I'm not sure why the other reviewers had such bad luck with their foils.Mine never crack or perforate. The cutter block is the limiting factor; it does get dull after no more than 18 months, and sometimes as few as 12.I've been using shavers with these foils for about 8 years now, so I have a fair amount of experience with them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Replacement makes a noticable difference. Sign up for Prime!
I've had various Braun razors since I was in bootcamp almost 15 years ago and my company commander required my face to be cleanshaven at all times. This meant I had to shave 4 times a day.The toll that took on my face with even a good blade razor was awful, and I only survived by eventually switching over to a Braun rechargable that shaved almost as close as a blade but with far less damage.

I've been a solid Braun customer ever since. Unfortunately, while consumer magazines tout electric razors as a money-saving tool, Gillette (the owner of the Braun brand for several years) has done a marvelous job migrating Braun customers to buy disposable replacement parts. The cleaning system that comes with most new Brauns is a great way to get an annuity stream from customers who mistakenly thought they could buy a Braun and be done with spending money.

While the value of the cleaning system replacements is sketchy, the 7000FC replacement combo isn't.After anywhere between 6 and 12 months of use, the foil on a Braun typically gets one or two small holes. These end up giving you nasty, painful small cuts. The cutter too wears down a bit.I notice when I replace both shaving my entire face takes probably 30% less time and is generally closer.Well worth buying.

One other note. This product is a great reason to sign up for Amazon Prime.Repeated free two day shipping on a product at a substantial discount to stores - I don't know how Amazon makes money on these transactions, but I'm glad they're letting us do them!

4-0 out of 5 stars Newest foil block solves trouble with older ones
I have recently purchased my 3rd replacement combo. A major annoyance with my two previous foil blocks (including the one that shipped with my shaver) was that it would very easily pop off my shaver, sometimes even just from the vibration of shaving. I was pleasantly surprised that the foil block has apparently been redesigned, because the latest one I bought sits solidly on my shaver.

While Braun suggests that you replace the foil and cutter block every 18 months, very likely you will want to do it much sooner.
For me about replacing it about once a year seems right.

I'll give it 4 stars instead of 5, because it just doesn't last as long as advertised. But perhaps I am luckier with my newest replacement in that aspect as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars best system, but change regularly
Never let it be said that electric shaving saves you money.

But, as one that can't really be bothered wet shaving, plus when I do I cut myself to shreds, I have to say this is the best system I've owned and it's worth swapping the foil way more often than the 18 months mentioned in the manual; I tend to only go 3-6 months before swapping and I can really notice the difference.

The other way I generally extend the life of these foils is, if like me you don't shave over the weekend, when Monday morning comes, use the clippers on the shaver to cut your growth down to a stubble and then shave; I find this gives a better cut and a cleaner shave after that.

So - a good product but could be tougher (it should last longer than 6 months) and could be less expensive.

    Happy shopping

4-0 out of 5 stars Great foil ... before the holes appear
I've been using Braun 7526 for 6 months before the hole appeared in the foil. Well, if you do not press hard, it doesn't hurt your face. However, after a couple of weeks the hole became larger and, finally, the sharp pieces of foil suddendly started to stick up. I scratched my face badly. Before the hole the shaving was very nice, though. Braun's warranty doesn't cover the foil and cutter block, but they agreed to replace mine free of charge. Nice customer service. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Replacement blades expensive/hard to find.
Norelco makes good electric razors but replacement blades are very expensive and difficult to find. Not carried in grocery stores. This is a significant hidden cost and matter of inconvenience.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm giving this razor 5 stars because I cannot give it 6....
After several years of a lower-end Norelco, I splurged and tried out the 8894.My experience has been nothing short of spectacular.

This razor truly shaves better than any I have ever used.I find that it provides a far-superior shave to my old 6000 series, equal to the closeness of a straight razor.Burdened with sensitive skin, I find the handy sensitivity feature of the 8894 worthwhile. The all-digital display that indictes when to rinse, service, and charge the razor is as helpful as it is nifty.I bought my razor at the end of March and fully charged it.I DID NOT HAVE TO RECHARGE UNTIL THE END OF MAY!My razor truly gives me 100 minutes of operation between charges. Most days I can shave with my 8894 in two minutes, about half the time I could shave with other, lesser razors.

Look around, find the best deal, but don't hesitate to go high-end Norelco. The extra features are nice, but it's the superior quality that make this razor worthwhile.

4-0 out of 5 stars The one to buy ifyou've got sensitive skin
Although I'm a couple of years past the half-century mark, my skin is still prone to break outs. That is why I can't use a blade as my primary shaver.I've had the 8894XL since it first came out.It gives a very good shave, but not as close as a blade. But the best thing is there is minimal irritation.

Thinking I could get a closer shave with an electric razor, I got the top of the line Braun. It did give me a shave as close as a blade, but at the expense of great irritation and break outs.It made me appreciate the Norelco more.

If getting the closest possible shave at all costs is the most important quality you are seeking in an electric razor, get the Braun. However, if you are plagued with irritation when shaving, then this Norelco is the shaver for you.It is for me.

Oh, and the razor is easy to clean.

5-0 out of 5 stars Will I ever have to charge it?
Amazing how many shaves you can get in its 100 minutes charge time.I have had it over four weeks and after its initial charge, using it every day, I still have 55 minutes of charge time left. The shave seems to be closer than my old 6000 series shaver that I lost.I went all out and purchased this "over rated razor" and found it to exceed my wildest expectations.I have a thick course beard, however tender neck skin and it works great with no burning.Close and comfortable is the easiest way to describe the shave.

I was lucky to purchase the razor in March when the razor was $134.00 with free shipping and a $30 rebate. This razor is however well worth the current asking price and Amazon is still the low price leader.Check the pricing out yourself.Thank you Amazon and Norelco my face is happy again.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Old Hand
    Hi all

This is my first product review and I have never endorsed a product before...
I think you can call me an old-hand in electrical shavers.I started to shave in 1978 using a Remington electrical shaver. My first Phillips/Norelco shaver was a gift from my grandfather in 1983.
Since then I have bought 5-6 Phillips shavers in succession (a new one every 3-4 years). They require no maintenance except for cleaning, a yearly head change and 2 year battery change. With each new shaver the shaving gets better and it is difficult to see any improvements that can be made in these machines. But they DO get them to shave better.

In the meanwhile I got several other brand shaving machines as gifts (Wet, Grid etc) but after experimenting for a few days I always resumed shaving with the Phillips dry shavers. I am not a fan of wet-electrical shavers (even Phillips).

I have had the Spectra 8894 for two months now. This one is a wonder and I strongly recommend it. I think if you buy a new shaver every couple of years you should get yourself the top model, the difference being 25$ or so per YEAR of use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best electric shaver ever!
Speaking as someone who has been shaving for 20+ years, primarily with blade over electric (Gillette Mach 3 for last few years), I can honestly say the Braun 8585 is the best shave I've ever had. As we all know traditional razor blade replacement prices have been going through the roof for years, and for guys like me with tough beards the blade itself only gives you about a week or two worth of good shaves. Due to my skin type, I was only able to shave every other day in order to avoid serious skin irritation. Now, with the Braun 8585, I shave every day, no irritation, and as close as I ever got with traditional razors. I've only been using it for about three weeks (what they say is your average adjustment period), but I feel the shaves have been great since day one. It's definitely one of the best looking electric razors I've seen, and it's self cleaning feature is a great extra. Cleans and recharges at the same time, in the same base. Overall, I'd say it's well worth the money and I'll never go back to blades.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
This is easily the best electric razor there is.I have super sensitive skin and can use it daily without any irritation.

The only negative would be that the cleaning cycle is a bit loud, but after only 3 days im already used to it.

If you want a really close shave and almost no iritation this is the razor for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth every penny
I feel like I have to share my opinion of this shaver.I found other people's reviews to be so helpful when I was trying to find the best electric shaver recently.

I previously had a Braun 6520 for years and was very happy with it until the day it died.I went a while without an electric shaver and finally decided to get a new one.I am not a rich man, but the Braun 8585 is worth every penny.I am extremely happy with it.I believe it to be the finest electric shaver available today. The other two shavers I tried during my recent search failed in so many ways by comparison. You really do get what you pay for with electric shavers.

One of the shavers I tried was the Remington MS3-1700 Titanium 3 MicroScreen Ultra.By comparison the Remington was much louder especially the sideburn trimmer which made me feel like I should insert earplugs before putting that thing so close to my ear. Also, even though it has the 3 screens, it took a much longer time to shave and it did not do that good of a job.

This Braun works really great and is impressively better than my old one which I was very happy with.I highly recommend the 8585!

3-0 out of 5 stars Fast shaver, poor neck area shaving, probably over-rated
I am a regular buyer on Amazon, with a pattern of buying 25 items a year for the last 5 years (yikes!) and I have never written a review about anything I bought.

I bought this razor based on the high acclaim that other users have given it.I have been using Mach 3 blades for the last several years, and decided that I might try to save a bit by buying an upper-end electric.

In short, I'm not THAT impressed, and continue to shave with both a Mach 3 regular razor & this one.My biggest complaint is the dismal job it does under your jaws and on the neck.I know you're suppossed to give an electric razor 3-4 weeks, but this has not helped. My search for the perfect electric continues.

The pros for this razor include how fast it shaves, and what a good job it does on flat surfaces on your face.I think because it has a big flat retangular head, it does poorly on neck area because the entire head can't be firmly placed again your skin. That's probably why a Norelco with it's triple head design does better on neck areas and small areas (if you have a big neck, maybe this electric will perform better).

Other aspects such as looks and build quality are a consideration but for me they fall a distant second to issues such as the shaving quality. The razor might look good, or have too big a base for cleaning, or clean itself but when I'm at work, I will remember the razor on how poorly it shaved my neck.Overall, I would happily spend another $100 to get a razor that does half a job that a Mach 3 hand-held blade and good old shaving cream will do.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent electric shaver
I've been a blade man since my very first shave over 25 years ago.I tried an electric shaver once and hated the results, so I stuck with blades despite their rising costs.

I saw a couple deals come and go on the Braun 8585 at a "hot deals" site I frequent, and I finallybit on the third one.Wow!Very impressive.

The razor burned my skin after the first use, but I used it straight out of the box, instead of running it through a cleaning cycle first.Since the first shave it has been very comfortable.

There are those who say it shaves as close as a blade and those who say it doesn't.I suppose that depends on many factors.
I have a tough beard, but I also don't mind spending the extra time with the Braun to get my face smooth. For me it shaves as close as a blade.

I can only reiterate some excellent tips that have already been given:

    1. To save cleaning fluid, always remove the cleaning cartridge from the unit and recap it tightly. Also the cleaning fluid is most denatured alcohol, so if you wanted to buy a bottle of that to refill the cartridge it would probably work fine.

    2. Pop the head of the razor off and shake it over your garbage can before you stick it into the cleaner. This will "trick" the cleaner into Eco mode 99% of the time.Saves fluid and noise.

    3. The noise is only for a couple of seconds two or three times per 30 minute cleaning cycle, and only in the beginning. Most of the cleaning cycle seems to be drying time, so the unit is quiet.

    4. A long time electric razor user warned me to be careful with these ultra-thin foil razors. The foil head can crack sooner than you'd expect and you end up cutting your face, so inspect your foil head regularly.

    5.Enjoy the Braun 8585, or 8595!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Shaver
I've had 2 remington microscreen shavers and neither did the job that this norelco does. i like this design better, it conforms much better to the shape of my face and gives a smooth shave. Great deal and worth the thirty-some bucks I paid for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beats Cordless!
My beefs with my old cordless shavers have always been the weight and the lack of power, especially when the batteries are low.

This is a lightweight and powerful shaver at an excellent price!

Plus, cmon, how many times in your life have you really needed to shave without an electrical outlet within reach?

5-0 out of 5 stars for the price you cannot do better
I was a long time razor shaver until a couple of years ago I purchased a Braun electric shaver; it was never to my satisfaction but I did not give it much thought; when it almost stopped shaving I came back to Amazon and found this Norelco; it gives a smooth and close shave; it is quiet and very easy to clean; I love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't Go Wrong
This is a great basic electric razor, with the only features you will ever need.It shaves and trims nicely, costing a fraction of the "higher" end razors.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great basic Electric Razor
I have been a Norelco Electric Razor user for about fifteen years. In fact this new one just replaced my original. When I first received it one month ago I was immediatly skeptical because it said Made in China. My original norelco was made in Holland as was all Norelcos. After using it every day for a month, needless to say, I won't need to pull my old one back out. I'm impressed with how comfortable and easily it takes off my whiskers. The floating head is truly a floating head, not just the blades like my older model. It gets close around my nose and mouth, and there is no irritated skin left behind. If you have never used an electric, give it a try for at least a couple weeks before giving up. It will take that long for your skin to adjust. Don't bear down, but just let the razor do the work, and I'm sure you will enjoy the results. Norelco is easy on the skin. JB ... Read more

Why expensive product?, like the title saids all purpose, It is great, cheap, and comes with amazing accesories.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cannot recommend this
I owned a Wahl trimmer before and decided to try out the Norelco Trimmer coz of its price. I only use the trimmer occassionally. The trimmer is nice and light, and handles the job well. Even liked the nose trimmer attachment. The battery charger however, is a piece of junk. I had followed instructions and charged the unit for the first time as indicated in the manual. I used the trimmer a couple of times after that till the charge ran out. When I tried to recharge it, it just died out. No indicator light - nothing. It looks pretty, but is anything but sturdy. I switched back to my Wahl trimmer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't beat it for price
I use this groomer for everything. It cuts through the hair on my head with no trouble when I decide it's time for the bald look.It does a nice job of trimming nose and ear hair.It allows me to trim my moustache and eyebrows with great accuracy.I even use it on my girlfriend to trim something that shall go unmentioned here, but she never complains about the results.I would buy this product again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great deal
I was looking for a good trimer for my beard. I was also looking for a nose and ear hair trimmer. I came across this set and it had both items I was looking for in one package. When I received the trimmer it was packaged in a clear plastic casing. It comes with a cheap charging stand holder. The item worked better than expected. It trimed my beard well. The nose hair came off without pain. The set is light weight and the case holder not the best, In fact it was slightly difficult to put the plug into the charging stand. I liked the set since it does work well. In fact, I bought an extra one to give as a gift to my brother in law.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great price

1-0 out of 5 stars crappy shave... and trimmer/ shaper
I have been using this razor for 1 month.Takes about 20 minutes to get an unclean shave. Trimmer doesn't trim very well. Plus, foil makes it difficult to see what your shaping

5-0 out of 5 stars Best bang for buck
Ok so i saw this shaver in a magazine ad and it caught my eye, I needed a new shaver to replace my old Norelco, so i thought i'll give this one a shot since it had alot of things to offer. I don't have a beard or goatee so i can't tell you about shaping up using the features provided on this shaver but i'm really satisfied with it so far just after the first day of use. After one quick shave, my skin felt alot smoother i like the fact that you can rinse it in water and you can go wireless. Well i must warn you though, those of you looking for a perfect shave look elsewhere and expect to pay more, because this if for more of a quick shave on the go person. For the price i recommend it to everyone and got it to my house in 3 days with free shipping!

5-0 out of 5 stars The only all-in-one solution
I have a goatee and I have been looking for a single shaving device that would trim and define my beard and also give me a decent shave for those times when I don't want to use a razor. The cruzer3 was the only device I could find that claimed to do all three tasks.I took a chance and ordered it through Amazon - and I'm very happy with the purchase. The shaver works well; not as good as a razor of course, but it's great for touching up spots I missed or a full shave when I'm in a hurry. The trimming blades are well-shaped and work much better than I thought they would.A blade that extends 90 degrees from the handle works best for trimming and defining, but the cruzer3's blades work well (you just have to tilt the shaver 90 degrees from your face). The beard trimmer attachment also works well.I have a hair trimmer that I use for buzz cuts and was using it for beard trimming, but the cruzer3 works just as well. And it's one less device I have to keep track of.Finally, I appreciate the fact that I can rinse off the unit with water when I'm done.I am completely satisified with the cruzer3; it meets all of my requirements for an all-purpose shaver/trimmer.

I never owned an electric shaver before, but I hit a homer with this one. Used it 20 times so far and haven't had to recharge it. Easy to clean, and does a nice job. Completely satisfied with my purchase.

2-0 out of 5 stars Shaves fine, but don't shave last thing before you leave.
The shaver does a fine job of shaving as far as I am concerned. However the charging system is severely lacking.

More than once I have had to wait 10 mins for the battery to recharge so I could finish upshaving. You can't just pop the cord into it and shave like most razors. So don't try and shave last thing before you leave in the morning.

Theres also no indication that the battery is about to die on you.I usually can't even tell that the motor is getting slower. If you buy this razor, make sure you plug it in once a week, or you'll be left half shaven.

4-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable electric razor...
This razor by Norelco is excellent.I have had close shaves ever since I bought this a month ago.Two of my senior leaders borrowed my razor when their electric razors broke and they remarked how good it was.The only reason this is 4 stars is the lack of a power meter on this model. While not perfect, I consider this to be a worthwhile investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars It works fairly well
After much thought, I decided to buy an electric shaver. I expected to get as close shave as my razor in less time. I needed to decide from an array of brands and models. I decided to go with Norelco 6613 because it was only $35. So the investment was small.

After getting the shaver, I gave my skin 2-3 weeks to get used to it. Now it shaves almost as close as my razor. However, I can't manage to shave off all the hair. A few always remain. But I can quickly remove those with my razor later.

The build quality of this shaver is quite good. Mine survived a drop onto bathroom tiles from a height of 3ft.

However, everything is not perfect with this razor. There is no low-battery indicator. The charge indicator LED only tells you whether you have plugged it in or not. It doesn't switch off after full charge.

If you are willing to live with this drawback, then go for this shaver.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Razor
This is a GREAT razor.I bought it to replace my old Norelco because this razor didn't cost much more than replacement heads for my old razor.I LOVE IT !!!Much more comfortable and a closer shave than my older razor (which I thought was great also). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous razor
My first Norelco finally died recently after 13 years of use. With that kind of reliability, along with the positive reviews I read here, I decided to replace it with another Norelco, the 6843XL. I LOVE this razor. It's much quieter than my old one, which makes my wife happy when I'm shaving while she's still trying to sleep. And it shaves much closer than my old one, even shaving every day. It looks cool, keeps its charge well, and comes with a nylon carrying case. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little shaver that is SUPER
I like the Norelco cord/corded razor because I am in a wheel-
chatr. Quite often I cannot get near an outlet or have a
handicap mirror available, and I have to shave by the
"feel-only method". The Norelco cord/cordless razor allows
me a versatility in how and where I shave. For me this
    product is SUPER.

4-0 out of 5 stars works like a charm
i've been using electric shavers for years and this one works great...
    1. you can use it when plugged in (although you obviously need to be careful about water) more 5 o'clock shadow because the battery isn't charged.
    2. it's multi-voltage, which means you can plug it in almost anywhere in the world (with an adaptor) and it will just work.
    3. The beard trimmer is excellent and easy to clean (unlike my old remington, where hair would get stuck in the beard trimmer and be impossible to get out)

    1. it's a little on the big side, not so much that it's uncomfortable to hold but for travel it would be nice if it were a bit smaller.
    2. the case is made of el-cheapo vinyl or something similar, they should have sprung for a nicer case with a little padding.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy Adjustment from Nonelectric
Unlike others, my motivation for going with electric shaving was based on medicine. That is, I am so many different blood thinners that, no matter what shaving system I use, I managed to get at least a small cut or two and these would bleed and bleed, etc.So, it occurred to me to try an electric razor.I read the generally excellent reviews posted at this site--thanks to all of you guys for your input!I decided on this middle of the line Norelco. It's a couple of models from the bottom; the bottom one is cord only, the next one is cordless only, and then comes this model.I spent some time at the store looking over the different blade systems; even Norelco alone has several going.I knew I didn't want that squishy mess like the most expensive, and I was reluctant to sink a small fortune into something I might not like. What decided most of all for me to get this 'Reflex Plus' system was that it has a whisker collection chamber so they don't go all over the place.I think the model(s) above this have lithium ion batteries, whereas this model still has NiCads--which I hate.If I traveled more than I do, I'd spring for the model above for about $10 more.NiCads are slow to charge and are generally crummy; I've been using them in photo equipment for 30 years. This particular razor can be used just as easily plugged into the wall, which I like.I also like the fact that it doesn't require a separate charging stand, you just plug the cord into the bottom.

How did it shave?Great for me.I'm blond with a fairly soft beard and it plowed through about 3 days' worth of beard, making a chopping sound the whole time.I felt an occasional 'pull' but then this was fairly long beard.Once the long hair was gone I found it quite smooth to shave with.I bought some 'Lectric Shave' at the store at the same time I bought the razor but I didn't use it.Having fairly light-colored hair on my face, I never have the Fred Flintstone look regardless.I found, though, that the razor certainly got my beard acceptably close.I can still feel hair on my face, but not to an unacceptable degree.I have usually used a German Mercury double-edge razor with Wilkinson Sword blades and this doesn't shave that close. It might do better or different with another's beard. As for me, I'm delighted, and it didn't cut me at all.I'm in my forties, so don't have any deep wrinkles, etc., to cut through. That might be different.

Unlike some of the other razors I looked at, this model is light to hold and not bulky. Some of the other, more expensive models seemed both huge and heavy.I wasn't willing to mess with that.Having only used this a couple of weeks, I can't speak to the long-term durability.Seems appropriate to the price, though.I don't think it'll cost me particularly more than blades and shave gel in the long run.It is very quiet.I am looking forward to many more pleasant shaves! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Bad design
While the concept of the built in comb is a good one, this design just does not work well and don't count on the vacuum catching all your clippings because it can only hold about half the volume of a shot glass. I ended throwing mine away and switching back to my old Oster hair clippers with the snap on combs for my head and bought a small rechargeable Waring beard trimmer. The twist dial for the comb length on this unit can be wrong - I gouged my beard/sideburns once with this unit. The comb unit must be removed for frequent cleaning and putting it back on correctly takes a delicate touch. The large size of the unit and comb also makes it verr difficult to trim your moustache close to your nose. Don't waste your money.

1-0 out of 5 stars keystone cops
As my title says this trimmer is the keystone cops of beard trimmers. The people who call this trimmer good must have peach fuzz for beards. The vacuum is a waste of money, it keeps getting clogged so you have to take it apart two or three times during trimming to keep it working. DON'T take apart the vacuum too much to clean as the spring inside is loose and it ended up in the trap of my sink. And finally forget the settings. I start off with a three setting for example and notice some of my beard is shorter than other parts and look at the settings and somehow the thing has slipped to #2. So then you do a 2 only to find out it has slipped again to 1. If you want a laugh buy this thing but if you want a trim dont buy it. Where is my old definition sixty which was battery operated but was better than this. Go back to the drawing board and do away with all the gadgetry and come out with something that trims beards properly and maintains the settings. Is that too much to ask??

4-0 out of 5 stars Tried the rest. This is the best
I've tried others, corded and rechargeable. Nothing beats a Norelco. The vaccum gets about 80% of the hair and cuts better then any other shaver I have had (except other Norelcos.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Trimmer - not good for cutting hair
I ordered this trimmer to replace a dead Panasonic trimmer. I used that trimmer both for my beard and for clipping my head hair down to very short size once every couple of months. The panasonic worked very well for both purposes.

This Norelco is a great beard trimmer and the vac part is quite nice in that it makes much less of a mess. However, it is a horrible trimmer for thick head hair like mine. I know that that's not what it's for, but just in case someone is looking for a trimmer for the same purpose: don't buy this one. The head hair accumulates in the vac part and in front of the blade, making you empty it almost every stroke. Once full of hair, the trimmer does next to nothing until you empty it, and then is only good for another 1 stroke. The motor also easily gets overloaded in thick hair and stops.

Again - fine beard trimmer, but do not use for head hair. I'll be buying the updated Panasonic model again to replace this one for that purpose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply, the best shaver. Period.
I went from using a cheap, one foil Braun model - the only way I had ever shaved - to the Norelco 7775x.The Braun had to be retired after the foil began rusting and essentially burned my face, caught hairs, etc.Well! I must say that research paid off in my case as I ran across this top-of-the-line Norelco. It's fantastic! While I don't believe the Nivea packs are enough shaving gel for keeping the "gliding" feeling, the 7775x is simply the overall best, closest shaving electric razor out there.I could go on and on about what a difference it is to be able to wet shave, shave in the shower, etc. but it's just so impressive when my boss complimented the closeness of the shave! Highly recommended, the 7775x left my sensitive neck feeling baby smooth and 100% better than my Braun left it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Close and comfortable
I've been using it for a couple of months now. It's as close as a Mach 3 when you shave in the direction of the grain, but much more comfortable. No cuts and almost no skin irritation.I use it withmy regular shaving gel, works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Norelco's Best-TOP OF THE LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My name is Michael.I live near Baton Rouge, LA.I'm 42 andI have shaved with Norelco Electric Razors on and off for the last 25 years or so.I also wrote a review on Norelco Spectra Razors.Recently, I received a Norelco Cool Skin for my Birthday.I have never really enjoyed a wet shave until I got this Razor.Guys, you have got to try this Razor.I'm telling you, this is the absolute best Electric Razor Norelco makes. It does exactly what Norelco says it does: It shaves as close as a blade. This is the closest and best shave that I have ever gotten with a Norelco Electric Razor in nearly 25 years of shaving!!!!!I have a heavy, thick, dark beard and unlike with the Spectra, I don't even get a shadow in the afternoon.I own a Spectra 8894XL Top Of The LineNorelco Electric Razor. Spectra 8894XL can't even come close to giving me the shave that I get with the Cool Skin Electric Razor. The Spectra takes me 7 or 8 minutes to shave and it's still not as close as the Cool Skin and I shave with the Cool Skin in half the time. This Electric Razor really is Blade Close. It does have one con and that is the lotion dispensing system. It does not put out much gel while you are shaving. Its best to use some Edge Shaving Gel with this electric razor to really get a close comfortable shave.I would like to say congatulations to Norelco: You Guys have finally made an electric razor that shaves as close as a blade. In a pinch, I will still use my Spectra 8894XL, but in the mean time I'm sticking with my Cool Skin.It leaves yourface feeling smooth and it really gives you asmooth, close, comfortable shave.Like I said, this is the best shaving electric razor Norelco has ever made.[...]

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product & Great Customer Service
The 7775x is truly cool - it doesn't irritate or burn sensitive skin when used in the shower.I have mixed feelings about the effectiveness of the dispensible lotion, I use shaving cream and get a close and consistent shave. The 21 day adjustment period is true, and my sensitive neck has cleared up since not using a razor. At the time of this writing, the shaver was so new, the repair center didn't have parts, and Norelco completely replaced the one that broke when it fell off the shelf in the shower.I must comment you must use the plastic strap and hang it on something, because dropping the shaver in the tub is a good chance that a repair/replacement will be required.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best ever
This shaver is well worth the money. For the past couple of years I used the top of the line Panasonic wet-dry shaver. It was time for a change and my skin is too sensitive for regular dry shavers so I got norelco 7775x. This thing rocks, no cuts, irritation from the the very first shave. The nivea packs are great idea, if you don't like them you can use your own gel/foam. I used it in as well as out of the shower and it works great every day. I highly recommend this shaver to everyone. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Blade shaved for 30 years
Finally!A shaver for sensitive skin with a medium beard. Recharger is cutting edge. The feel of the shaver in my hand is so natural. Noise level is low. Easy to clean. Close shave with circular motions. I tried many electric shavers until I found this one. It actually competes with a blade shave, without the shaving cream, mess, and water wasting of a blade shave. I believe that I have recovered the overall cost of shaving between blade and electric in about a year. Mama never complains about scruffies and it travels well.

2-0 out of 5 stars I've Had Better Razors...Even From Panasonic
I bought this razor about a month ago (well, I bought one of these Panasonics -- who can tell the difference with all these model numbers) and have been using it regularly. Quite frankly, it's not very good. Certainly not what one would expect from a razor that cost more than $100.

I've used Panasonic razors in the past, and had a wonderful single-head model a couple of years ago that worked well and was "wet/dry" -- so when that unit crapped out I figured I'd spring for the better two-headed model and get a better shave from a name that I could trust. This new razor, however, doesn't work as well as the old one. It takes many more passes to get a close shave, and with all the extra passes there is more irritation to my skin.

I've tried this razor wet, and I've tried it dry. I've tried it with lotion and without. I've tried it with the head set to "soft" and "hard" and in-between. I've tried it standing on my head. No matter how I use it, the shave is inferior to my previous Panasonic, and quite frankly not what I expected from a razor that cost more than $100.

On the upside, the induction charging system is a great improvement over previous models, since it means that there are no exposed charging pins or holes for water to leak in. Cleaning is a snap, and it is very comfortable in the hand. But even these advantages and the abilility to use it wet are not enough to overcome the deficiencies in shave quality. Next time, I'm going with a Norelco, I think.

5-0 out of 5 stars Close as a razor...
I had a Norelco before purchasing this and the Norelco was good but too much skin irritation and it pulled at the hairs on my face, ouch! The wet/dry is awesome, you can use any kind of shaving cream you want with it which makes for a very comfortable shave and not to mention extremely close!!Only other time my skin feels this smooth is when I shave with a razor. Also clean up is a breeze, no special cleaners needed, just some regular hand soap will do.Oh and no pulling at the hairs...Great product!

5-0 out of 5 stars No need to hesitate!
I've used Norelco and Remington electric shavers off and on since high school. Because of their poor performance I've been reluctant to invest over $100 in a Panasonic that may not perform any better. Only because of the strength of the reviews I've found online did I decide to go ahead and make the plunge.

There are three Panasonic models that appear to be identical except for color (8092, 8095 & 8152). I sent an email to Panasonic to confirm this, but have never received a reply. I purchased the 8095 only because Amazon had a special where with the purchase of Panasonic items over $129 they would send a $50 certificate towards future Amazon purchases. This brought the effective price down to just under $100.

For the last few years I've been using the Gillette Mach 3 Turbo with decent results. My face is sensitive and my beard grows in many different directions so shaving with a blade has been slow and painful. I'm always left with nicks, razor bumps and razor burn. There are also always a few little spots where I never get as close of a shave as I would like.

I purposely did not shave this morning since I was expecting the new Panasonic this afternoon. As soon as it arrived I placed it in its charging base. The battery indicator showed a 20% charge. I left it in the charger for about 30 minutes to indicate a full 100% charge.

Like the instructions indicated, I used shaving foam and probably took about 5 minutes to shave my entire face. Hopefully after using the shaver for a while I will be able to shave in 3 minutes or less.

The instructions state that it will take about 30 days for my beard and skin to get used to the new shaver. If my first shave is any indication, after 30 days I will absolutely never consider going back to a blade. I have a shave that is every bit as close as a blade if not even closer. No nicks, no razor bumps and little razor burn. Even after only my very first shave I feel very comfortable in recommending this shaver to anyone that is fed up with using a blade.

5-0 out of 5 stars if only i knew...
If only I knew shaving could be this pleasant, close, and comfortable I would've had this machine alot sooner. I haven't tried any of the other electric shavers on the market, but it'd be hard for me to believe that there could be a better one out there... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Value
This little guy works as well as any electric razor I have ever used. For 11 dollars it's a bargain. I would recommend NiMh rechargeable batteries though for longer life and more power.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for travel, commuting and the office
This is a great little shaver for commuting, to keep in your briefcase, or to leave at the office. It doesn't have the oomph nor the really nice sideburn trimmer that would make it a good choice for daily chopping of a heavy beard. It does have one noticeable flaw: sometimes the battery cover comes off in a suitcase or briefcase, dumping the AA batteries out. Most inconvenient.

But it's certainly worth the price and maybe a good bit more than that just to have a shaver at the office to get a quick trim before going out or before an important meeting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Small and spunky!(What the heck does that mean?)
Please note... I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because -- like any electric shaver I've ever owned -- it misses some hairs. The other reviewer is correct... you might have to use a razor on occasion to get 'em all.If you're familiar with electric shavers, you probably know exactly what we're talking about.

Having said that, I think it does as good a job as any other electric shaver I've owned. And I've spent a lot more than 10 or 11 bucks on those.

Bottom line:I like it and recommend it.

I use it as a travel shaver. It's "spunky" because it's battery powered. My rechargable starts to slow down after a couple of uses and, of course, needs to be charged. This one really has some energy and so far I haven't worn down the batteries.Battery life seems good since I'd be recharging by now with my other shaver.

You might want to carry a couple of extra batteries with you when you're traveling. But consider this... the shaver itself is self-contained.You don't have to carry a recharging cord (you don't need access to an outlet) and it flips around into it's own "case" so there's no case or pouch to carry around. As such, it's a good, very compact Braun shaver (with trimmer) and you sure can't beat the price.

2-0 out of 5 stars Average Shaver at Best
I brought this after using a Norelco Rotary for years, and found this disappointing.I need to use a razor to touch up what this shaver misses, and I have to work at shaving with this razor. It is small and compact and uses standard batteries with little power drain. It is probably best used for a travel razor, but you won't like it as your daily shaver. It will not cut light hairs, and works best on heavy thick beards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Braun shaver
This battery-operated shaver shaves as well as my new Norelco rotary razor that retails for about $100 more. The Braun gives a great, quick shave and is incredibly easy to use.I keep mine in my desk drawer at work and plan on buying another for my travelling shave kit, since it's much smaller and lighter than my regular Norelco razor. My only complaint is that it does not do well with long hairs (e.g., I had difficulty shaving a 3-day beard with it). That being said, for ocassional touch-up or regular use (with 1-day beard growth), it certainly can't be beat at this price -- given that it costs less than just the replacement blades alone for a corded/rechargeable razor. ... :(I have sensitive skin. This lotion has a irritating "cold burning" sensation.Yay menthol.I didn't get a close shave and i didn't want to shave with it because it felt like the razor was dragging across my irritated skin.

I was going to return my shaver until I tried the HQ170.

The HQ170 moisturizing shaving lotion is much more comfortable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, protects skin and smells good!
This product combines perfect with my Norelco advantega razor.I have very sensitive skin and this gel makes mine very smooth so when I shave it doesn't irritates my face and to be honest, this has been my all time problem. With the Norelco advantage and this gel, my problems are gone.I trully recommend it.

The only down I found on this product is that it doesn't last to much shaves. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST SHAVE EVERPERIOD.....................................
I just received my Norelco 7845XL.I can't believe how close this shaves.THROW AWAY THE BRAUNS AND ANY OTHER FOIL SHAVERS!
I started shaving with a Norelco. The 710RL was my first and it must have lasted for ten years when it finally stopped. Then I heard how much closer the Braun foil shaved. It did!But it was slower to cover all the areas of your face.Well, I've had three within the last five years upgrading each time.My last the 3612 just went haywire and stopped charging.I should of known better. It's made in China.

5-0 out of 5 stars Smoooooth
Best cordless shaver I have ever owned. I always bought Remingtons before. You can tell the difference as soon as you pick it up. The Hummer of shavers.

4-0 out of 5 stars good shave; don't like the power switch
The 7825XL, 7845XL, 7865XL and 7885XL models are all basically the same razor, differing only in the way they display battery/chargingstatus (anywhere from 1 LED to a complete tiny LCD display). The shaving peformance is fine for me -- not as close as a wet shave but that's a good thing for me personally because the closeness of wet shaves makes my face break out.Every 3-7 years I buy a new Norelco and they get incrementally better each time.

I'm writing to warn about one feature.Every shaver I'd had up to this one had a physical slider switch to turn it on and off. This models has a push button. This means you can't tell BY TOUCH whether it's on or off. This is critical for me because I usually shave in the car (sitting in traffic) with the stereo blaring and I can't hear the shaver (especially since the newer models are pretty quiet).I turn it on and off a lot as traffic conditions change.

Further, when the battery is low, my previous shavers would just run slower and slower until they came to a gradual stop. This one slows slightly (imperceptably to me, really) and then just "falls off the cliff" and stops cold.So you don't get any warning really that it's about to run out -- if I knew it was running down, then I'd shave a lot faster!

And this is where the tactile power switch feedback is important:if the battery's totally drained, but I'm not done yet, I'll leave it off for a minute and then turn it on for 5-10 seconds of shaving before it dies again. With the push-button power control this is really confusing because you're never really sure what's on and off.It turns out the the power button is like a pulse that gets sent to an internal microcontroller (I'm guessing), so after it's been off for a while the power "position" doesn't matter, it's really off.You just push to reboot the thing.

So, my 7825XL was robbed out of my car last night and I'm buying another one of these, so I guess that's an endorsement. But I'm bumping up to the next higher model with better battery status indication ...

I got this product for my brother who has eczema and had trouble with previous razors tearing at his skin.He loves this one![...]

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, very impressed
I have been hesitant about purchasing an electric shaver, but I finally took the plunge on this one and have been very impressed. The unit is good to hold in your hands, it cuts without plucking, and contours to the face very well. I can shave everyday with little / no irritation (granted this is only day 2) - as opposed to a blade that I can only handle every other day. It cleans easily. You will have to experiment a little bit with direction and motion to make sure you get all the hair on your neck / chin. Take the same time as shaving with a blade, if not less, and provider equivalent shave.

Remington produced the world’s first electric shaver in 1937, and continues to be a leader in shaving technology. Titanium is the company’s latest break-through. When coated with titanium, blades stay sharper longer than stainless steel for an extra close, comfortable shave. Ergonomically designed with no-slip insets, this model features three ultra-flexing round heads that float independently to hug face and neck contours. Moreover, the heads are ultra-thin, which allows the blades to get as close to the skin as possible. A nifty one-inch trimmer pops up to define sideburns, mustaches, and necklines. An added benefit of this razor is that it can be used either with the 5-foot stretch cord or without, and features quick charge. A one-hour quick charge provides 40 minutes of shaving time, while a five-minute charge is enough for one shave. This model features a green light that indicates the shaver is either charging or charged. A red low-battery light indicates approximately five minutes of shaving time remains. Cleaning this razor is a breeze--squeeze the release buttons to flip up the head attachment, then blow, brush, or rinse out any stubble. A cleaning brush is included, along with a zippered, padded carry pouch and protective head guard. The shaver automatically converts to other voltages worldwide, making it great for travel. Remington covers the shaver with a 30-day money-back guarantee, and a two-year warranty against defects.--Ann Bieri ... Read more

If it cuts a whisker it is by mistake, its much better at pulling them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works Well!
Had mine for at least a year - works well, good battery life. Does not cut thick sideburns, however - mine jammed and had to have it replaced under warranty.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent
I've had this for about a year and it's held up for that long so I guess it's decent.Never had any problems with it but it isn't anything special. It doesn't work well on really thick hair, thatis my only problem with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value
For the current deals on Amazon (I got mine for $30), its an excellent shaver. This is my first electric shaver ever, and I was a little concerned about my skin...however, it was not that bad. The titanium blades are very effective and noise levels are acceptable.
On the con side, I think its not the best at shaving stubble below the chin. Also incessant attempts can cause rashes on your neck.
Overall, I think its a very good buy for such low prices.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible for your skin. Bad judgement on my part.
I bought this razor because i expected remington razors to preform. When i received this product my first experinace was horrid. First time i shaved with it, it left rashes, scratched and injured skin on my neck. I have never had razor burns that bad. My mach 3 is just so much better then this terrible product. I reccommend against buying this product. ... Read more

    Product Description

In order for your shaver to perform at its best, it needs proper maintenance. The Braun Activator, however, takes care of itself. Aside from giving you a super-close shave, the nifty unit automatically detects when it needs to be cleaned, alerts you on the LCD panel which of the 3 cleaning programs is required and proceeds to wash and dry itself. It also lubricates the cutting parts and tells you when the shaving foil and cutting block need to be replaced. The charger is great too—it juices up the shaver while optimizing the battery capacity and life-span. Made in USA. 6Lx3W". ... Read more

    • The oscillating movement of the shaver head combined with the new foil pattern, effectively captures and cuts more exposed hair in fewer strokes.
    • The new Clean&Charge offers three different cleaning programs to meet three different cleaning needs: Eco: One cleaning cycle for people who clean every day.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST RAZOR I EVER HAD
I received the 8595 Braun Activator Model for my birthday and secretly thought that all its printed features were pure hype.
How surprized I was when I actually started shaving with this model.

Informatively, since I am retired it is not necessary for me to shave every day, and since I do not really find it pleasureable to shave, especially with the maintenance, etc., that comes in different forms, I skip many days and shave when only when necessary.

My last shaver was the Panasonic wet/dry rechargeable Shaver, for which I paid close to 250 dollars and found lacking all the hype that went on in advertisisng this shaver. It took forever to complete a shave, but since I had some old Norelco models, I would at times use 2 razors to complete the job.

Now for the 8595 Braun Activator:Following closely the instructions which recommeded that the face be dry and to shave prior to washing,it did away with the Pre-Electric lotions that have increased in price. So, with Shaver in hand I commence shaving and notice that it is the closest shave I have ever had with an electric razor. Now comes the best part: No use running hot water over the shaver head, as in the case of the Panasonic Shaver, I had to use liquid soap in the cleaning when Shaver indicated cleaning, and there was an indicator for recharging. With my 8595 model Braun, when I finish shaving I place the shaver in the station and it automatically does all the rest. When setting up the shaver for first use, there is a cleaning cartridge that is inserted into the station. One just follows the instructions. The cleaning cartridge should last about a month and sells for about 5 dollars each. No other stuff is needed. It is recommeded to shave daily. So when the cartridge is inserted and the station is connected to an ac outlet, you just shave and return the razor into the station and as advertised it automatically does the rest.

The shaver automatically adusts when one uses the sideburn trimmer, etc.

Regarding the cleaning cartridge as mentioned above, if it is used daily it lasts 30 days, if not used daily it should last
    approximately 8 weeks.

So here it is:Cleaning and lubrication plus re-charging the battery is all done automatically as advertised.

I am very satisfied with this Razor and now shaving is just as simple as I have always wished it would be.

I highly recommend this shaver. This from an individual that has gone through many a shaver, hoping for the best, but disappointed in actual performance.

Lastly, I would have added a few more stars in addition to the five stars in the rating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now A True Believer!
I have sensitive skin and have been trying all kinds of shavers over the years looking for a good shave without irritation.I ended up going through a few rotary-based solutions, but found they did not do a good job, took a long time to shave, and ended up irritating my skin.It was depressing. Then I saw the ad for the 8595 and the technology looked impressive.I went for the gold and bought the best.IT WAS WORTH IT!A great shave, quickly and thoroughly with no irritation!I will never go back, from now on its Braun for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great shaver--even at the price
I have used a cheap Remington for a number of years and was getting tired of the irritation and occasional nicks, so I figured it was time to give a new shaver a try.I saw a rave review of this shaver in a Men's magazine, thought the self-cleaning thing was a bit gimmicky, but decided to take the plunge.

All I can say is "Wow"!Of course, going from a $39 razor to a ~$200 razor is probably not a good comparison, but here are my observations:

    1. It really doesn't shave as close as my Remington did.Of course, that means that my neck is no longer nicked and beet-red after a shave.I consider this a plus.

    2. The self-cleaning thing is not a gimmick. It rocks!I discovered how good it is when I went out of town for a week. The base isn't sealed, so you can't travel with it--no worries though, the shaver comes with a brush, and the cord plugs directly into the shaver as well as into the base.Well, after a couple of days of just using the brush to clean it, I found that the shave just wasn't as comfortable.I don't know if it was oil from my skin building up, or just my imagination; however, once I got home and cycled it through the cleaner, it was as good (and comfortable) as new.Note that the cleaning fluid is a lubricant (supposedly) mixed with denatured alcohol and it works.Popping open the top reveals an immaculate interior, even after having not cleaned it for five shaves.

    3. Blue LED's suck. The LED on the base of the shaver could light your entire house. Can you say "Black Sharpie"?

    4. The self-cleaning cycle is not something you want to do at night (note that you initiate it manually, so you can control this). It runs the shaver to assist in the cleaning process and is a bit on the noisy side.Especially because it's intermittent. It will be quiet for 5 minutes, then suddenly run the razor for 15 seconds.

    5. Battery life isn't really what I expected. At six to seven minutes per shave, it consumes (at least based on the graphic on the LCD panel) about 20% of the battery. Not a show-stopper, more of an observation.

    6. NO MORE SHAVING WITH A RAZOR!!One of the annoying "features" of my Remington was if I skipped shaving for a couple of days, my beard would be too long for the Remington to pick up.Because of this, I would have to shave with a razor.Braun addresses this by having a "long hair cutter" (if you will) in the center of the shaving head.It really works!

    7. The swivel head thing is pretty cool.It really does work and isn't annoying like I expected it to be.

    8. Lifespan of the cleaning cartridge is a bit short.I get between a month and a month-and-a-half out of a cartridge before I have to replace it.Note that the shaver doesn't "use" the fluid up through the cleaning process per se.It is recycled back into the cartridge, along with your whiskers. When it sucks the fluid back up, it is through a filter. This means that the loss of fluid is due to evaporation exclusively, so the whole "Eco" clean thing is a bit hoaky.

Overall I am very pleased with the shaver and have recommended it to a couple of my friends. At $200, it's a bit pricy, but with some of the deals Amazon has been running, it comes down quite a bit.I would consider it a steal at $100 and reasonable at $150.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Shave!
I have very sensitive skin that get horrible razor bumps after shaving.I have tried everything including other dry shavers. While the other dry shavers did not irritate my skin like a blade does they never worked good for my hair.I saw this model and read some reviews so decided to give it a try.It worked great.A nice clean shave and NO irritation!

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, Back To My Braun Syncro 7570
After years of shaving with my Braun Syncro 7570, an amazing razor by all accounts, I was looking forward to trying out the new top of the line Activator.Improvements over the Syncro I was hoping for included the same great shave with even less irritation (the Syncro head gets hot after about 2 min.'s causing some irritation), a cleaning base that didn't give off as much of a smell while cleaning, a more sturdy foil (everyone I know that has a Syncro regularly has a foil chip every couple of months which causes instant shaving irritation which requires going out and buying a new foil/cutter for $25-$30), and fewer irritating blinking lights on the razor while cleaning/charing.

After using the Activator for two straight months I can say that for me, without question, the razor does not shave as close as the Syncro. The Activator is marginally more comfortable, however I think the greater comfort comes from a shave that isn't as close. While I know every beard is different, honestly, I can't believe that only a few other reviewers have had this problem, the difference between the Syncro and Activator is quit noticeable. While the cleaning base station does have less of a smell, there are more blinking lights on the razor that stay on even after cleaning - like a Disney light show - at least with my Syncro I can make the lights go off by removing the charging arm when done cleaning/charging.

Braun is out with a new, sturdier foil/cutter block for the Syncro 7000 series so I'm sticking with it.I haven't tried the new foil yet since my old one is still kicking, but my advice is this:if you think the Activator is the best razor you've ever used, get yourself a Braun Syncro (the last update was the 7680) with one of the new foil/cutter block assemblies and you'll find yourself with an even better shave. ...
