5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is an excellent heart rate monitor. It has all the basic functions that I need and has the comfortable fabric strap for the WearLink transmitter. It is very easy to use.I set my heart rate zone manually since the Ownzone function has given me some weird settings.During exercise, I can see my heart rate, and it can give an alarm if my heart rate is above or below the zone. After exercise it saves a file that gives me the total exercise time, total time in the zone, average heart rate, calories burned, and % fat burned, total exercise time since the last reset and total calories burned since last reset.

I find it easier to just set a wider heart rate zone of 60% - 90% of maximum heart rate.If I want a light aerobic exercise I just try to keep it above 60%.If I want to work harder, I will get the heart rate higher but slow down if it gets above 90% so I don't over do it.

This is a great way to get back into better physical fitness and to do it safely with some guidance.I highly recommend the book Younger Next Year, which talked about why and how to use a heart rate monitor. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I Don't Think Most People Will Appreciate This Game
What bothers me about having to write this review is that I was really looking forward to recommending this system. I have to admit that the idea of an interactive video game based on your own biofeedback had me sold. I believe I remember reading somewhere that this game is supposedly a lot like Myst. What could be more cool than puzzle-solving, exploration and meditation all in one convenient game?

While the potential seemed to be there, the execution here is just downright flawed. This game is no Myst! I would compare it more to one of those kid's educational titles where you do a bunch of silly activities with rabbits and turtles to learn to read: in fact this game may be far more suited to three or four year olds than adults (although I question whether children would have the patience to play this game). As it is, I suspect most people do not have the enormous reserve of patience it must take to get through this game; and once you finish it (total gameplay time is only eight to ten hours at best), I can't see why one would want to replay it.

You start out the game as a "Seeker" and meet a kindly woman named Sophia who hands you a magic wand and makes you take a deep breath to enter the magical kingdom of Wild Divine. After that, there is absolutely no plot whatsoever. You meet a bunch of strange characters who speak to you as though you're a little child. They all repeatedly explain the concept of the deepth breath (counting in to 7, holding, counting out to 7). This allegedly relaxes you; however, this particular form of meditative breathing does not work for everybody, myself included, and you may need to experiment to find another meditation technique to successfully release tension (I personally find using a mantra far more effective).

Exploration in this game is extremely limited. The map is pretty small, and there are clearly linear paths to go from place to place. The only reason you even know what you're supposed to be doing in this game is by trudging back to a "Magic Mirror" that tells you what your next quest should be. I found it strange that the game designers wouldn't just have in-game characters tell you what you should be doing and why, but I suppose this would have involved writing a story for the game. As it is, when the Magic Mirror tells you to fetch flowers as an offering to the Drejja, you'd better not expect any answers about who or what the Drejja is and why you should be making offering to him/her/it.

Gameplay is similarly unsatisfying. There are very few items to find as you go about your journey. Along the way you can choose to click on various activities like juggling, making birds fly in circles, and "archery." I suppose this is the real heart of the game, but these activities aren't that different from each other. Almost all of them involve deep breathing until you slow your pulse down enough to complete the activity. Umm, so basically to make birds fly in circles you take deep breaths and relax. And to shoot an arrow you take deep breaths and relax. And to juggle you take shallow breaths to "build energy." And to build a fire you take deep breaths and relax. Those four sentences just gave away about 75% of the game...

All in all, highly disappointing. In fact, until biofeedback gets to the level where you can monitor brain waves in your home while playing a video game, I suspect that using biofeedback to monitor the results of meditation will just produce silly results like we have here in this game.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll amaze yourself
As a woman who is still in her early twenties I have played a lot of video games since I was a kid.Problem with Video games is that they actually drain your energy.I could never figure out why even in the rush of winning a game, you turn off the screen to find yourself drained, unfocused and tired.I don't believe they are a good habit to pick up for anyone.

This game has the oppisite effect. With each game you play you'll find yourself to get more energy, focus, and peacefullness. There will be times when you will be amazed at your own abilities during the game and the amount of energy within you at your disposal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful game!
I am so pleased to see this sort of game being offered and hope the creators will continue with more. It's a wonderful tool for stress management, but also just plain fun to play. Kids will like it as well as adults since it has many entertaining and magical elements. "Energy events" allow you to learn to control your energy and open your heart. Now this is the kind of game we all should have had as children. I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful game with health benefits.
The Journey to the Wild Divine is wonderful; I've just competed the game and plan to start a new game right away to see if I've missed anything and practice the bio-feedback exercises. While this game is great fun the bio-feedback exercises are remarkable and worthwhile without the enticement of the game. Buy it for fun, buy it for health! I will buy the sequel as soon as it is available

5-0 out of 5 stars A playground for the mind and a classroom for the spirit
OK. I admit it. In some ways Wild Divine is a form of escapism. When wars, the economy, the ecology, earth changes, and 2012 get just too much to worry about, it is a relief to move into a world of peace and light and beauty. The colors are a bit brighter, the people loving and helpful and I get to float rather than walk. Addictive? It could be, but in our list of possible addictive scenarios I can't think of a more positive one.

The first evening I used The Journey to Wild Divine before going to bed, I slept a deep, comforting sleep - for nine hours! Yes, there are some goals in the game but most of them concern adapting body rhythms not deciphering cryptic clues. In fact, those in the Myst 4 camp may find that there is not enough challenge. Wild Divine is not a typical adventure game. You don't need to be a gamer to play as clues are available through guides and magic mirrors and sometimes words in your "head".

The actors (real people, not animations) portray a variety of archetypes. There is the pagan Lady of the Woods, the Eastern guru / yogi, the mystical Lady of Compassion, the clock making wizard and the list goes on.

Many health care professions advise daily meditation. Many laypeople agree. Still, it is sometimes difficult to make the time in our busy schedules to do our yoga or qi gong or drumming. Sometimes-even though we know it is good for us-it seems like merely a chore. Enter Wild Divine. Play with the ball or the pinwheel. See if you can hit the bullseye with your imaginary, mind-body controlled arrow. Move on to more difficult tasks as you will. PLAY!!!!

The Journey is not a typical 360 degree navigation game. You cannot delve into each nook and cranny. In other games this inability to explore has bothered me, but in the land of Wild Divine there is no hurry and as the land glides by I am content to play the part of observer. There is no choppy change of scene; everything glides effortlessly together. The experience, in part at least, is a guided meditation. The initiate has control of his main movements, but the paths are clearly defined.

The downside? For some people it will be the price. Since Wild Divine is not simply a game, the cost reflects that. The biofeedback components (you could think of this as a metaphysical Xbox of sorts) attach to fingers and measure your Skin Conductance Level as well as your Heart Rate Variability (HRV). You can visit the Institute of Heart Math to learn more about how HRV can boost your immune system. Moving through the game involves mastering the Heart Breath. Don't worry (after all the point of all this is to relax), there are lessons and guides along the way.

The upside? A new game is in production, so if you love Wild Divine you can explore the sequel without purchasing new hardware. Wisdom Quest featuring Deepak Chopra's new book, The Book of Secrets is due out in Spring 2005. Keep your fingers crossed. And The Journey includes a music CD is included for the times when you just can't get to your computer.

From the users guide:
To succeed in The Journey, players have to learn certain principles, which basically require an "allowing attitude" - a kind of passive will. It's the difference between saying, "I must do this" and learning that the only way you're going to progress is by deepening your breath or being in touch with more positive emotions or imagining that what you want to happen is already happening - bringing the wished-for event into the present.

Yes, there is indeed a scientific explanation to WHY objects move for you in The Journey, but sometimes I have to admit it simply seems like magic. And why not? We are! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great monitor, good bike computer but a complex beast...
I've had the S150 as a heart rate monitor and sometimes bike computer (on my mountain bike) for about 8 months now. Here's what it does REALLY well:

1) Instantaneous heart rate.
2) Lap timer that captures average and peak heart rate during each split and also displays lap time and instantaneous heart rate during the workout.
3) Instantaneous bike speed.
4) Total mileage covered.
5) Average speed per lap/distance covered in each lap.

Here's what it does satisfactorily:
1) Ease of navigation through all of the functions.

My only real gripe with this heart rate monitor is the labyrinth of menus and "paths" that you must travel down by clicking on numerous buttons to get to the true functionality of the device. This may scare off the technologically inept or the impatient types, but those familiar with Polar HR monitors or the kind of person that will sit down with the manual and learn the device will come to enjoy the accurate biofeedback this training tool offers.

I've worn it in 3 triathlons, swim with it 3 times a week, mountainbike with it, run, everything! The only thing it DOESN'T do it log your workout stints and make them available for download to a PC.That'll be my next HR monitor purchase! But in the meantime, I'll be happy with the functionality of this killer Polar monitor. ... About MIO
The story of MIO began in 1999 when MIO was invented by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. Working with a trainer Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits by monitoring calorie intake and by using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn't a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer’s advice. She didn't have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse. Nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. There had to be a better way! Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create MIO, the world’s first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. It didn't stop with heart rate, MIO also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of MIO and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality and less stress.

Product Description

The Polar S625X is like having a performance lab with you on every workout. All the heart rate, running and cycling data you will ever need is available right on your wrist. The S625X delivers continuous running speed without relying on where satellites are positioned. With the optional cycling and power sensors and enhanced training tools like the Polar OwnOptimizerTM recovery test, plus altitude and ascent for route profile, the Polar S625X lets you cross train and put the power of information to work for you. The Polar S625X is a combine heart rate monitor and running speed and distance device. It comes with the S-1 foot pod- Polar's footpod technology is highly accurate-- It is not a pedometer, it does not count steps, nor does it rely on an equal stride length. The Polar footpod measures 360 degree, 3-D, forces of inertia (speed, magnitude, impact, direction etc). These sensitive accelerometers then translate these measurements in to realtime speed and distance-- with approximately 95-97% accuracy. For cyclists, the Polar S625X Running Computer is fully compatible with all Polar cycling sensors (speed, distance, cadence and power output). Base your training on heart rate, speed, cadence, altitude and optional power output information. The Complete Cycling System consists of a Bike Mount Set, Speed and Cadence Sensors and an optional Power Output Sensor Set. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very practical and useful
I trained for the 04 Atlanta half marathon with this device.
It gave me alot of useful information before the race, like
- My max sustainable heart rate is 180.
- My mind convinces me that I am tired at mile 9 eventhough my body is capable of more output. I realize this when I see my heart rate at only 160.
- Exactly what mileage I run and the pace DURING the run, together with the heart rate. This information is all on the screen without you having to fiddle with buttons during the run. The watch also automatically beeps every 1 mile and tells you your pace!
- The watch's distance measurement did not need any calibration before the first use! Other devices are normally very off before the first use. I verified this with a treadmill and with the mile markers during my race.

The download to computer feature is very easy to use. It chronicles all my runs in a very user friendly program. The data is stored in a text file in case if you wanted to graph it differently.

The heart and distance sensors are very unobtrusive. I especially surprised by how comfortable the heart sensor was.

I already convinced 2 other work mates to buy it and they swear by it.

My only wish is that the watch logged temperature! Temperature has a substantial effect on my run and I would have like the ability to analyse it.

[Note that my first half marathon was done in 2:02:35. I don't consider my self a runner and I feel that this watch together with alot of sweat made it possible.]

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT! BUT BEWARE OF THIS MERCHANT
I paid $15.95 extra to have this item shipped expedited which I ordered on May 23rd, by the 28th, I still haven't got it. It has not been shipped, and it was promised by the 29th. Guess what? That's Sunday. I emailed this merchant prior and got no reply. Finally, I drove about a hundred miles to another state and purchased this item.I plan to return the order placed with bikesomewhere.com back when it gets here. Before I placed my order with this merchant, I read its good ratings, which all show up first. But when I didn't get my order as promised I looked further into their profile and found recent customers with similar compliants. Buyer Beware!!!!!!! If you want this item look elsewhere at other merchants. By the way the product is great! It gets the above five stars. Its kinda like a custom personal trainer on your wrist. I love it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Essential tool for any runner
Though I sometimes question the accuracy of the distance (and hence pace) there's no doubt that this has helped my training.I'm aiming for a marathon and usually use it in pace and distance mode. This helps me to know if I'm on target for 7.00 min mile; the autolap give me the time for the last mile and the time so far. If I'm running a new route I know precisely (~1% out) how much I've run and the heart rate monitor tells me if I'm actually over-exerting myself or just feeing lazy.
I still have a lot to learn - I haven't spent any time using the zones function but I'll do that after the marathon.

Honestly though, I never seem to analyze my runs on my PC - my main use for this equipment is Pace/speed and distance.

I'm also considering purchasing the Nokia 5140 phone (I need to change my mobile anyway), though since I don't do much post run analysis on my PC there's not much need.

(One weird thing is that a run given as say, 7 miles on the watch is given as 6.5 on the PC.) To elabourate on the accuracy, the last race I did the watch was reading 4.04 when I crossed the 4 mile line on the road, however remember that this line was drawn by someone who measured using a car - they would have driven closer to the middle of the road and therfore possible covered less than I actually did.

4-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT HRM that will take 4 to 6 hours to learn.
I LOVE my Polar S625X Heart Rate Monitor... and I'm VERY picky about the design and implementation of techno gadgets. There are only three things I've thought of that it could do better.

First, the temperature sensor is on the wrist side of the watch. So, when I was running and the air temperature was about 16 degrees fahrenheit, the sensor reported 65 degrees.Since I know of no good reason for this design decision, I have to call this a silly and unfortunate design error.

Second, the accelerometor could probably very easily provide a pedometer reading, i.e., "How many steps did that run require?"It doesn't... at least as far as I can tell.

Third, the menu system appears to be inaccessible during a recording session. That is, you have to stop the recording session to look at or change file information or user information, etc.

But, other than these 3 things, I'm very impressed.(I'd be very very impressed if the pedometer and menu shortcomings mentioned above could be fixed via an EPROM upgrade via the Infra Red port.)

The Polar S625X Heart Rate Monitor is a complex tool.Plan on spending between 4 and 6 hours of concentrated study to learn to use it to its full capability.

And finally, I'd like to add that PC Coach/Biometrics, Inc. shipped on time and provided EXCELLENT technical support when I asked them questions about this HRM.I highly recommend them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best training tool available
The Polar S625X does everything I have wanted a HRM to do for some time now. I am a triathlete and always wonder: "How far have I run?". Now you know. It does everything that the S725 does with the added running info.

There is nothing wrong with the build quality or the interface (if you are willing to read the manual).

Only buy it if you are going to use all the features. Without connecting it to a computer and following a well structured training programme it is definitely not worth it. Rather then opt for a cheaper model and upgrade when you see the need. ... Read more
