Product Description

NEW Compact and stylish three-in-one lamp promotes better sleep! Buzzers, beeps and loud music do not a refreshing morning make. With our Inspiration LED Lamp you can return to the wisdom of rising with the sun, just as nature intended, and begin your day more refreshed and less "alarmed." A digital alarm clock with a programmable dawn simulator, light therapy device (for SAD) and LED reading lamp in one, this uncommon light can help you regain healthier sleep patterns, banish the blues and see with brighter, glare-free illumination for longer bedtime reading. Powerful LED lamp consumes only 1/10th the power of conventional incandescent lights, yet is 10 times brighter and will never need replacing. 75W equivalent. 10"H x 6"W x 4"D. 7 lbs. Patents Pending. ... Read more

Features

  • Experience focused, evenly distributed, and non-dazzling light that helps reduce eyestrain when reading.
  • The light's 72 bright-white LEDs wash over you to chase away winter blues (10,000 lux.)
  • When used for reading, they're easier on your eyes than regular fluorescent or incandescent lights.
  • Convenient adjustable lamp head and arm are optimal for angle rotation.
  • This alarm clock/lamp wakes you naturally with light that mimics sunrise by going from dim to bright.

4-0 out of 5 stars Much better way to wake up!
I am definitely in a calmer happier mood when I wake up with this dawn simulator than with my old radio alarm clock.I still don't like getting up early ;-) but I now use 0 or 1 snoozes rather than 3-5 snoozes.

It has two alarms - one ends with chirping birds, the other with an alarm sound (I don't know what the alarm sounds like, I have not used that setting).I'm usually well awake before the sound begins.

Pros:
* Swivel arm and pivot head allow it to be put in many different positions.I had to experiment with different positions.
* The light is mostly concentrated on just my pillow. It does not bother or wake my spouse.
* MUCH nicer to wake up to than a jolting radio or alarm clock.
* Clock is not illuminated, so there is no glowing light in my face during the night. It can be illuminated with a push of any button other than the one that turns on the LEDs.

Cons
* My only real complaint is that the first, dimmest setting is not low enough. If I'm facing the light directly when it first comes on, I awake with a jolt.
* A light that illumuninates the entire room would probably work better - but that would also wake my spouse.
* It would be nice if the digital clock was larger and easier to read, but it's not too bad.

I'm very happy with my purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Value for Money???...
I've wanted a "dawn simulator" for a long time, but since I didn't know they went by that name, I didn't know they existed. Finally I discovered the name and the genre.DS's come in two basic types, those with the timer and lamp integrated, and with just a timer that you plug your own lamp into.

All DS's have one thing in common: they're expensive!I guess that's because they haven't hit the mainstream yet. Why the manufacturers don't market beyond the narrow SAD market I don't understand.

Oh yeah, the review.

Pros:
- white LEDs are whiter than incandescent and presumably better for chasing away SAD.
- LEDs are low power and the lamp gets only warm, not hot.
- has weekday and weekend separate alarms times, with adjustable "dawn" time and different sounds at the end of the time.
- directional, adjustable position lamp
- easy to use as bedtime reading lamp (you can simply turn it on/off easily)
- adjustable brightness control

Cons:
- no battery backup! It loses *everything* if you unplug it or the power goes out
- LEDs white light may not be conducive to encouraging sleep at night.
- adjustable brightness goes in only 10-15 discrete steps
- lowest brightness may not be low enough
- clock not illuminated at night; you might need a separate clock
- directional light might be more annoying than general light
- separate alarms are marked "A" and "B", not "Weekday" and "Weekend".

Summary: Even after just one morning of waking up this way I can tell it's superior to a $@*!!@#! alarm clock. But would I buy this particular one again?I'm not sure.A timer-only model might be best but is it easy to use as a general lamp too--can you turn the controlled lamp on/off easily?Whatever dawn simulator you end up buying, I don't think you will regret the much more calm way of waking up. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Loses contact
Looking at the watch itself and reading and trying out all the features, it seems like a pretty good deal.It is pretty and comfortable, especially the soft band that holds the transmitter. I liked a cool feature at the gym, where all the machines picked up the waves form the trasnmitter so I wouldn't have to neither grab the bar on the treadmill nor flick my left wrist to get a heart rate reading.Very useful and accurate.I did not even know the machines would pick it up, so I don't know if this is standard thing (I hope it is, since I bought a new Polar model now).

If it's so great, why the 2 stars? If I were to spend my life on the readmill or running on the road, great. But that's not the reason why I bought it.I wanted to have a monitor so I could practice alternate workouts that would raise my heart rate while working on core muscles.Since the watch would cease to read the heart rate (dropping to zero) whenever I extended my arm laterally, it was of no use to me. What good are a whole gamut of features if the MAIN job of reading your heart rate is failing?I contacted Polar's customer service explaining the problem in detail, but all they gave me was the same schpiel you see in the manual and in the website "be sure the contacts are wet etc....".

I loved it so much, but I had to return it 3 monhts later when I couldn't deal with it anymore. And I never got to try it swimming...

I hope this problem was related to this model only, since I recently bought the F11 (Even more features!).The first thing I did was the "arm test" and it passed it.I need to try it out now on a real workout (full hour) and swimming.

4-0 out of 5 stars Use this several days a week
I have owned a Polar M62 (same as this except the colour) Heart Rate monitor for about two years now. I use it together with their web-based training diary / planner tool to plan and record my exercise sessions. It didn't take long to master the unit but I am still learning new ways to use it to improve my exercise sessions.

Here are some of the things I like about it:
* It has settings for two people so I can share it with my wife.
* The OwnIndex estimates my oxygen uptake capacity in just 10 minutes and is perfect for tracking my fitness level.
* The OwnZone feature senses my current form and suggests HR-limits accordingly letting me take it easy on bad days and challenging me on good ones.
* The InZone timer controlls my exercise - I won't quit until I have done enough at the right level of exertion.

Here are some things I do not like:
* It does not have interval timers which would be useful for running and stretching
* As a watch it is not that good i.e. lacks many features found even in cheap wrist watches (it does have an alarm though)
* It is supposed to work when swimming but I find that it seldom does

Fínally a tip: The OwnZone low and high corresponds to easy and moderate training intensities. If you plan to include high intensity training in your work-out you can set that manually before starting. After that you can switch between the three zones by pressing and holding the up and down buttons for a few seconds. So you can do intervals but you have to time them manually.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good concept needs work
I've had this watch for over a year now, and use it all the time. The only problem is that the transmitter always loses contact with the watch, for no apparent reason, the heart rate will just drop to zero. This is very frustrating when you are trying to monitor the rate constantly. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Slightly flawed, but irreplaceable for serious training.
First, this has completely taken my training to a whole new level. I'm a medium distance runner training now for a half marathon. After using the speed & distance & heart rate monitor many times, I've started to get very familiar with where my heart rate should be if I'm going to have enough left to go the distance. And being able to see my pace in real time pushes me to make sure that I have *just* enough left, and not a bit more. My improvements in speed have been dramatic.

In terms of the actual product and features, I'd rate this as very good. The speed & distance GPS unit is extremely accurate. It takes a bit longer than I'd like (about a minute) to lock on to the satellites, but that's not a real problem, just a minor annoyance. Also, once, I fell after twisting my ankle. I stopped the chrono while I walked it off, then started it again when I started running. All of a sudden, though, I was doing 2' 55" miles. Needless to say, something was wrong. I stopped and started the chrono a couple more times, but still got similar readings. It wasn't until I stopped and restarted the GPS 45 minutes (and an alleged 15 miles) later that my pace started reading something realistic. That's only happened once.

The heart rate monitor works fantastically. I got a couple of spikey readings (240 bpm down to 0bpm back up to 240bpm) the first time I used it right at the very beginning. But I suspect that had more to do with the fact that I was still adjusting it on my chest since I had never used one before and wasnt' yet quite comfortable with it. Other than that one first time, though, it has given extremely accurate readings and has been invaluable in helping me keep myself at a pace that my body can sustain.

The data recorder has worked flawlessly except that it's a bit annoying that the data recorder and the chrono in the watch need to be started and stopped separately. At first this kind of bothered me, but having used it now for a month, I realize it makes very little difference if the data on the recorder is for a run that is for three seconds longer or shorter than what my watch reads. For training purposes, this has made no difference at all to me.

The worst part of the whole package is the timex trainer software. I suspect that in the HRM and S&D data over the course of a training run, there's a lot that I could learn about when my body starts to fatigue, how soon that occurs, and how that point changes as my condition improves etc. etc. I say that I "suspect" because there's no way I'll ever be able to find out using the training software. The graph it produces of an individual run is miniscule to begin with and cannot be resized. Also the scale cannot be altered. After all I'm not really interested in knowing much about what happens in the heart rate 0-160 zone, as I never run in that zone. I'd like to be able to set the HRM scale to 165-185 and the speed zone to... well, I'm not saying :-) Because only by doing that will the small differences in heart rate over a run appear large enough to see with clarity. I suspect the only way I'll be able to use that kind of data is by exporting it to excel. I've done that, but am not yet handy enough with it to see the kind of data that I really need in the way I want to.

In a nutshell, I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants to get a handle on what their body is capable of, and to improve it as well. It works excellently and I'm planning on keeping mine on when I run in the actual half marathon this april.

3-0 out of 5 stars I works but could be better
The watch and the data collection device operate independantly. This leads to the timings on the watch and the data collection device to be differant based on when you start and stop either device. It would be nice if I could get both units in synch. The software gives you a lot of data, but could be more flexable and intuitive. I'm finding the best way to manipulate the data is to copy it to XL. The heart monitor at times seems to be widely inaccurate. For example, it has shown my heart rate from time to time spiking to 240 bpm, which obviously is not right.

It may seem that I'm negative about this product, but I am actually having fun with it. Except for the occasional inaccurate heart rate readings, the data is great. I have found the speed and distance numbers to be very accurate. And for the most part I am glad I purchased it. ... Read more

35. Suunto Foot POD Pedometer : Heart Rate Monitor
by Suunto

Asin: B0006MH0NC
Catlog: Sports
Manufacturer: Suunto
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Product Description

Other running and walking electronic pedometers use a rocking mechanism to measure a single stride, but the Sunnto Foot POD features two highly accurate acceleration sensors for measuring distance and varying speeds with unsurpassed accuracy. It measures each stride separately for better data than conventional walking pedometers that measure one step and fail to account for varied stride length as the terrain and your stamina changes. This is accomplished by measuring the movement of your foot through the air, not the ground. The innovative calibration results in an average of 98% accuracy even over protracted distances. Combine your Suunto Foot POD with the Suunto t6 heart rate monitor and you'll own one of the most advanced personal training systems available, giving you readings on current speed, distance from start and lap measurements. If you rely on interval training, the Foot POD and Suunto t6 will automatically record your lap times over pre-set distances. The Suunto Foot POD uses an ANT transmission with a range of 30 feet to eliminate crosstalk at crowded marathon and 5K starts. Using the Suunto Training Manager software, you can graph the data from your Suunto Foot POD and t6 to identify key factors for enhancing your racing performance. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars more comfortable than the rubber model
I bought this transmitter because I did not know that the Polar Heart Rate Monitors came with a transmitter included in the box. I could not find anything that specified this, so I ended up purchasing an extra transmitter.

That being said, this transmitter is super comfortable. The rubber model that comes with the heart rate monitors does not have any comfort issues over this one. The electrodes are sewn inside the fabric of the strap, and they are soft. The only hard piece on this is the plastic transmitter part that is not that big in the front. If you are doing something that involves a lot of body motion, like aerobics, tennis, dance or lifting weights, this fabric model is a better alternative to the rubber model. This fabric strap transmitter might also be a better option for women, who may already be dealing with an underwire bra at the gym.

As far as functionality goes, you won't really need a coded transmitter unless you are using the HRM in a crowded environment where EVERYONE is using monitors. Like at my gym, where the personal trainers sell the Polar brand of HRMs, hold weekly training classes about them, and encourage everyone to buy them. If you don't find yourself in this type of environment, but you find the regular transmitter to be uncomfortable, than this is for you. If the regular transmitter does not hurt you, then you don't really need this.

One problem with this transmitter is the clip mechanism that you use to snap it shut. The little plastic points that clip in look like something I am going to break in about a month.Everytime I snap it open or closed I feel like I'm breaking it.
