5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased!
My wife purchased one of these white noise generators for a vacation we were going on over a year ago. It is small and very lightweight with an eight foot long cord, which is nice and long. Its small size means that it fits easily into any luggage and takes up very little room on a night stand. The noise it makes is pleasantly "white," which means that it doesn't disturb you while reading in bed and yet it provides enough cover for the little noises that can sound so loud at night. The volume produced can be modulated by turning the top, making it louder or softer.

Overall, we are very pleased with our purchase of this item. We have experienced nothing but trouble free service from it, and we have even purchased a second one for the baby's room. We love this item and give it our highest recommendations!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cure for highway noise when you are trying to sleep!
Was so excited to try this since I had just moved into a new apartment and was having trouble sleeping because of the highway noise outside. Used it on the low setting and found the fan-like noise to be very soothing and masked the noise outside. Am so glad I found this product and would recommend it to anyone!! Bebeautiful shipped it very fast too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting a Good Night's Sleep
Do noises interrupt your sleep or make it difficult for you to concentrate? Fret no more! The Marpac SleepMate or Sound Screen is your answer. These quality sound conditioners create a seamless, smooth sound of rushing air. This "white noise" sound effectively masks unwanted noises, making it easier to concentrate, relax and/or sleep. They are quality made in the USA.

The SleepMate and Sound Screen are offered in both Single speed (model 580) and Dual speed (model 980). The tone and volume of the sound are controlled by simply rotating the "cap" (top) and "collar" (side) of the housing. I recommend the Dual speed because it offers even more control of the volume.

Here's how it works: The cap and collar have small openings in them. By rotating the cap and/or collar, you allow more or less sound to exit these openings which affects the unit's tone and volume. The 980 has high and low settings (dual speeds) offering a greater range of tone and volume than the single speed setting of the 580. At the bottom rim of the unit, there are tiny openings that allow air to enter.

Please note that the openings at the bottom rim must never be covered or the unit will overheat, malfunction and ultimately, fail.

SLEEPMATE or SOUND SCREEN
Don't be confused as to which one of these to buy. They are virtually identical except for their names. The Marpac Corporation realized the name, "SleepMate" would not be well received by their secondary market: companies who are essentially looking to increase productivity in the office.

To Marpac's thinking, no company wants their employees to use a product, while at work, with the word, "sleep" in it. Enter the name, "Sound Screen".

LESS IS MORE
Unlike most other sound conditioners whose sounds are processed, simulated, replicated, digitally enhanced, and then looped, the SleepMate/Sound Screen uses the simple, natural sound of real whooshing air. The 980 and 580 produce white noise mechanically (like a fan) - all other models produce white noise digitally.

APPLICATIONS
To name just a few, the SleepMate/Sound Screen successfully masks out

* Street noise
* Television and stereo
* Barking dogs
* Snoring spouse
* Appliance noise
* Tinnitus (ringing, buzzing in the ears)
* Noisy neighbors
* Air traffic
* Conversation

PERSONAL TESTIMONIAL
I own two SleepMate 980s. One is "permanently" plugged in on my nightstand and the other is for staying overnight elsewhere. It is a lifesaver! Now, I need not worry about unwanted noises awakening me. The gentle, whooshing sound of air melts into the night blocking all unwanted noises.

Unless my SleepMate is on, sounds like barking dogs, street noises, lawnmowers, slamming doors, and other sounds that go bump in the night and early morning can and probably would awaken me.

The closer you place the SleepMate/Sound Screen to your ears, the louder the white noise is. On rare occasions, while travelling, the external noises were so loud and so frequent that I had to place the unit literally on my pillow. Needless to say, I slept peacefully.

DURABILITY
The SleepMate/Sound Screen has proven to be a durable and effective design. Tests have shown units that are used on average 8 hours per night, last at least 15 years or more.

ABOUT MARPAC

5-0 out of 5 stars A Miracle for Anyone with Asperger's/ADD
If you have Asperger's SYndrome or ADD (I have Asperger's myself), your excessive distractability can easily distract you from any tasks that you perform, causing you to drift from activity to activity without completing any of the activities. THus results in great inefficiency and very poor time management. Why? Sensory overload will overwhelm an Aspie/person with ADD, causing this to happen.

I am an ambitious person with Asperger's who is going into the International Baccalaureate program and who aspires to Caltech or MIT. Unfortunately however, my excessive distractibility led me to excessive procrastination as I wasn't even able to work on my homework very efficiently (my procrastination led to a grade drop too; it was only through sympathetic teachers that my GPA didn't drop significantly). Furthermore, I couldn't stand certain sensory stimuli, causing me to cover my ears if someone went to the bathroom (yes, I cannot stand the sound of any bathroom sounds). The constant breaking of my concentration caused me to forfeit my homework until the very end, when the stress of an immediate deadline coerced me into finishing my homewokr assignments. Of course, this extreme procrastination had many negtive impacts on my work quality and I even turned in several assignments late.

Yet, I still spent as much time on homework, even more, than my peers. This resulted in having no time for any extra-curricular activities whatsoever, and caused me to doubt my own intelligence, leading to an huge decrease in my self-esteem.

Enter the earplugs. Initially, I gave up on them because they became uncomfortable only after a few minutes. You'll have to deal with the initial discomfort at first, but the rewards will be MIRACULOUS once you wear them for extended periods of time. With one's concentration no longer broken and the distractions gone, any person with Asperger's or ADD who wants to complete their homewokr efficiently and quickly will want to use this product. Mere words are too little to explain my joy of finally finding the product; if not for this, I would probably have to drop the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

These products do wear out after some time although they're still well-worth the cost! They should last for several months each.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product - Fits and feels great
I've tried many types of ear plugs to block out noise and this is by far the best one I've used.

The size of the ear plug is perfect size and it expands and fits perfectly in the ear canal to block out noise. Other ear plugs can be too hard or too soft or feel awkward wearing but these fit great.

I use them to study and sleep in noisy areas. This package also contains a small plastic carrying case that can carry about a pair of ear plugs. The case is handy so you can carry them with you anywhere you go. The price is also very reasonable here on amazon. I definitely recommend them to block out all types of noise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for lil swimmers!
My 6 year old has tubes in her ears, yet LOVES to swim! I have tried ALL types of ear plugs and these are by far the best! I used to use the type that were like putty, and I had to press them in her hear so hard, it hurt her.

Now that I have used the foam ear plugs, I will never use another! They are comfortable and keep my childs ears dry even when she in the pool for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best for studying
This is the best ear plugs I have used so far.I study a few feet behind our TV, yet I can still concentrate without spoiling other's good time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm addicted
I bought the Sleep Mate because I had trouble sleeping at my girl friend's house. She has a lots of pets and they make noise all night long. The Sleep Mate works great. The low setting is just right to drown out noises that wake you up.My girlfriend actually complains that she is now constantly late for work because she over sleeps.I find that the unit also helps you fall asleep.Something about the soothing sound that just makes you sleepy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than electronic white noise generators
I bought this because I have tinnitus and have trouble sleeping.Several years back I bought one of those cheap little Homedics alarm clocks that can play different kinds of continuous background noise (you can choose from "white noise," "rain," "ocean waves," etc).It was useless--the sound produced was tinny, not soothing, and did not mask other noises. The Marpac Sleep Mate 980 is far superior to an electronically generated sound that is played from a tinny speaker. Before buying the Marpac, I always just left a fan on all night for the sound, but didn't like having the rushing air when I didn't want air, just a soothing white noise. So I would say the Marpac is better than a fan too. However, a friend of mine who also had trouble sleeping used an air purifier to create white noise.Genius! It doesn't create a big gust of air when one isn't wanted, and yet still creates a pleasant white noise that has depth to it, unlike the annoying tinny sound of my Homedic.(...)

5-0 out of 5 stars No More Nose Bleeds in the Morning !!!
I have narrow nasal passages.Every winter I would wake up with a nose bleed. Then through the day if I blew my nose it would start again. This year when I discovered Breathe Right Strips I have used them every night.I had one nose bleed and none since. I am so happy someone finally solved this problem for me.Where I live the Sensitive Skin Breathe Right strips are not available in the large size box of 30.I'm happy to find them on Amazon.com. My husband snores and I'm trying to get him to try them. He will soon. Thanks so much. Regards, Gwynn Bedford.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for snoring...
I have chronic sinus headaches and congestion.Using Breathe Right strips every night while I sleep all but alleviates my sinus headaches even during the day when I'm not using them.I am also saved from having to constantly take decongestants and allergy medications. This probably won't work for everyone, but if your problems are not too severe and you'd like to refrain from daily medication, give it a try.

5-0 out of 5 stars It stopped my snoring!!
My wife and I went to bed - but when I woke there was no wifey - seems my snoring woke her and she spent the rest of the night in the couch in the family room.

I tried a breathe right strip - woke up the next morning and wifey was at my side - NO SNORING!!

It may not work for you (seems that there are several different types of snoring - and the strips only "fixes" nasal snoring) but it sure did work for me.

In addition, the strip allowed me to breathe more freely.

NEGATIVES - The strips feel funny and with the tan strips I look like a TOTAL dork - with the clear strips, I look like a little dork.

Since the things stop my snoring, I am happy to put up with the negatives. ... Read more

I recommend these little guys... but you need to place them just right (as the instructions say).I've gotten the best results when I place the middle part as high on my nose as I can, but still low enough that the left and right flaps can just cover the tops of the "sides" of my nose.To better illustrate: take a look at the "right" and "wrong" pictures in the instructions, and obey, but just keep the "middle" part as high as you can. Also, definitely make sure you wash your nose with soap & water and dry well before attaching; if they become loose they're useless.

I don't use these for congestion, so I can't comment on that function.

They're expensive, and they're not magical cure-alls, but they help me sleep a little better (and apparently reduce the volume of my snoring), so they're certainly worth a try.

I was amazed at how well the product worked, both for myself and a friend. I would definitely recommend it, particularly to people who're suffering from a cold or allergies, or who snore. I'd suggest, however, that if you're purchasing them for an adult, you probably want to buy the large size. The only problem was that they came off at night a few times, which I think was due to their size.

I'd seen these strips in stores before and was very skeptical -- I couldn't see how a piece of plastic stuck to your nose could do anything other than make you feel silly. Well, you do feel a little silly but it also does help. If you're looking for a miracle cure for congestion or snoring, this can't live up to your expectations -- but it does help. Quite a lot actually. It gave my husband, who has all kinds of allergy and sinus problems, a better night's sleep than he's enjoyed for a long time. Product Description

Somnatrol is a Proven Natural Remedy for Insomnia, Sleeping Disorders, Sleep Deprivation Symptoms, without the Potential Side Effects of Trazodone and Ambien Pills. It is estimated that over 50 million Americans suffer from some sort of insomnia. While we all have occasional nights when we struggle to fall asleep, nothing can describe the frustration of struggling to go to sleep night after night! Medical science recognizes the strong association between good health and good quality sleep. What is the best way to treat insomnia? Because of limited time and lack of understanding of the natural sleep cycle, many conventional doctors prescribe strong sleeping tablets for insomnia like Diazepam (Valium), Lorazapam, Alprazolam, etc. These can be highly addictive and if used for more than a week or two can result in a lifetime of dependence. Using strong drugs to fall asleep often means that the body's natural sleep cycle is disturbed and the ability to fall asleep naturally is lost. The person often needs to take stronger and stronger medication in order to fall asleep at night. Grogginess in the morning is not uncommon. Somnatrol is unlike any other product of its kind. The unique ingredients in this officially licensed Somnazide product when taken 30-60 minutes before bedtime will start relaxing your body. This feeling of relaxation is the formulas Stage 1 components taking effect. Shortly thereafter you are put into a restful sound sleep as the Stage 2 components take over. 4-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend
I highly recommend this product.
It works best for me when taken in larger than prescribed doses. If I take 2- nothing. If I take 2 then take a 3rd- nothing. However, 3 seems to be the magic number, and for a mild insomniac, I am pleased.

If I take this product continuously for a few days, I feel a little depressed. Melatonin overdose I am told. I prefer this product to Tylenol which leaves me feeling wasted the next day.

I am about to buy more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Stuff
I have a hard time staying asleep at night.I constantly wake up.With the Somnatrol.I sleep great ,it's amazing!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of money
As an insomniac and tired of the Tylenol PM and Unisom combo, I decided I should try a "natural" route with this product.I eagerly downed the recommended dosage--and nothing!Might as well have taken a sugar pill for all the good it did me.And the odor!Smells like Parmesan cheese aged a bit too long...Oh well, back to the tried and true.

5-0 out of 5 stars SLEPT PEACEFULLY!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best at Blocking Noise.
I discovered foam ear plugs when I lived in New York City, where they were commonly sold in subway stations. Silicone, plastic, and wax earplugs had proven insufficient defense against loud neighbors and street noise. These foam earplugs were far more effective and comfortable than other types. I think I literally would not have survived years living in places even louder than New York if not for these earplugs. I couldn't have slept without them.

The ear plugs have a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 29 decibels, which is higher than any other ear plugs on the market. They block out a lot of noise, but they are more effective at blocking higher frequency sound than low-frequency. This means that you won't be able to hear the telephone if you sleep with ear plugs in, but you might hear the neighbor's lawn mower. Their effectiveness at blocking out noise from machinery really depends upon the pitch, but foam ear plugs will always lower the volume somewhat. They're pretty good at blocking background chatter, television, or music.

I've used both Flents "Quiet! Please" and E*A*R brands, which are identical apart from color. Flents are off-white. E*A*R plugs are yellow. They are easy to use. You simply roll the ear plug between your fingers to squish it, then insert it in your ear canal. It expands to fit your ear snugly. Each ear plug can be used a few times before it has to be trashed. If you need noise relief in order to sleep or concentrate, Flents "Quiet! Please" ear plugs will be a great help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Actually LISTEN a metal concert.
Want to go to a Slayer, King Diamond or Entombed concert and actually hear the perfomance? Then wear these soft, comfortable ear plugs. I have been going to concerts since my late teens head-banging to the metal gods but now as a working schlubb I need my hearing and for only $3 and better decibel protection than most ear muff type ear protection, how much is your hearing worth?

5-0 out of 5 stars Multi Functional Plugs
Whether you are mowing your lawn, cutting the hedges or just trying to get some well-deserved sleep these earplugs do the trick. These are quite effective and do really work. It was truly unbelievable when I went to trim my hedges. I couldn't believe how these really reduced the sound to a soft whisper. These are amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Plugs for Sleeping
These plugs are the best for sleeping... I've tried many types and like these the most. Other plugs have a tendecy to fall out during the night because of their shape, but these ear plugs are short and cylindrical which keeps that from happening very often. The plugs expand when placed in your ear to keep out any noise. They also get 'stale' overtime, and need to be replaced.

5-0 out of 5 stars They saved my marriage!
My husband snores... LOUDLY!The choice was to sleep in separate bedrooms, or try some ear plugs.I must have tried every kind on the market; wax, putty, rubber...They were all pretty uncomfortable and/or messy to handle. Then I tried Flents foam plugs, and they work like a dream. They took some getting used to (for awhile I noticed that I was removing them in my sleep), but now they stay in all night. They are super easy to insert.Just roll them between your fingers until they are thin and tuck them in!The foam expands inside the ear for a snug fit that muffles my husband's snoring.Of course, they don't make you deaf, which is nice, but they drown out the annoying sounds so I can fall asleep and stay asleep. They're also great for avoiding rude awakenings caused by ringing phones, false alarms of home security systems, and by the clinking sounds of my dogs' collar tags when they decide to scratch in the middle of the night. One pair of foam plugs can be re-used three or four times.Just store them in an air tight container when not in use until it's time for a new pair. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BEST PRODUCT IN THE WORLD!!!!!
I only wish I would have found these 10 years ago!!! I am always in tears in baggage claims in every airport and it is annoying, painful and can really damper the mood of a vacation!!
I flew with these and it was if I had never even flown.I was apprehensive about them really working but now I will never leave the ground without them! Thank you whoever invented these little miracle gadgets!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for when you have a wicked cold
Got a cold? Have to fly? Don't leave home without them. I have used these ear plugs on two separate trips when I had a bit of a cold - they work wonderfully. Follow the directions and you should be golden.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolute Necessity for Flying
I agree whole-heartedly with the previous reviewer. I fly often for business and to visit family. Before EarPlanes it was not uncommon for me to be in tears from the pain of pressure changes on take-off, landing and even in-flight. No more! I usually leave the EarPlanes in throughout the flight if the duration is less than 4 hours. They protect against sudden changes due to turbulence or the pilot changing altitudes. I also love the decreased noise since the engines can be quite loud. I have recently flown a number of times with my infant son and I have no trouble interacting with him or recognizing his needs. (I was a little worried about that due to the noise reduction.) Finally, this price is absolutely the best one I have ever seen for this product and well-worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars NO more ear pain
I have been using EarPlanes for almost ten years now.In 1992, I had a very bad flight experience with severe ear pain and several days of hearing loss - this was quite unexpected although I'd had some minor discomfort previously which was relieved by chewing gum or taking a pre-flight decongestant.I will not fly without getting a pair of EarPlanes. An added benefit, particularly if you are flying alone, is that ambient noise is quieted, making it easier to read or otherwise concentrate on relaxation; you can still hear announcements. If the flight is long enough you can safely remove the EarPlanes while the aircraft is at cruising altitude.I have only used the adult version of EarPlanes but based on my experiences with them I would recommend that parents keep a pair on hand for each child - you never know if you're going to start needing them. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars If I had a choice, I would give this ZERO stars.
Don't be deceived by all these popular reviews... Honestly, I could swear the maker, family and relatives, must be on here writing reviews for their own product...

The silicon ear pieces are very hard to mold correctly. When you place it over your ears, even tiny gaps can allow sound to pass through, rendering the piece essentially useless.

Not only that, I think my hearing IMPROVED with the pieces on. I could detect smaller sounds. Everything seemed amplified.

I shared my ear piece with my roommates. They too had a similiar opinion. This product is definitely NOT for everyone.

The silicon deforms very easily.Save yourself money. I think it would be worth it to spend more money on professional ear muffs rather than these cheaper, non-working ear pieces.

Plus, consider the fact that shipping and handling significantly adds on to the cost of the product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very quiet, but edible?
Bought these a week ago to deal with my neighbor's new rooster (I live in an urban area, isn't it crazy!) before the city's animal care organization deals with it.These earplugs are extremely comfortable as they are like soft and pliable putty. They form an excellent seal and lock out sound efficiently. And they are even comfortable to sleep with and stay in better (you won't take them out in your sleep due to discomfort). One thing that I really like about them is that unlike other plugs (foam for instance) you don't have to shove these far into your ear canal (which might make those of you who get ear infections often squeamish). All in all, an excellent product.

However! One caveat!I've used them for a few days now, and suddenly I found that my bedroom was crawling with ants.I never keep food in my room so I looked around and sure enough there were 6-7 ants inside the CLOSED plastic case (that ships with the plugs) containing my unused pairs of earplugs.Somehow these things are edible or appear to be edible to ants.I am going to contact the company soon and see what they might have to say about this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best for noise!
I have been using these for over 10 years. Other foam plugs don't even compare. They are so comfortable and really block out most noise.I always travel with them, especially when I am sharing a room with someone. When I went to a retreat last summer, I brought several boxes with me.I was the most popular person in the entire group at bedtime. I have nightmares that this company may go out of business someday and I will never get to sleep again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't live without them
These seem to be better then the foam ear plugs. I have found that the foam ones fall out and hurt my ears after a while. These really work wonders. I can even sleep next to my snoring husband! They are not uncomfortable at all and two pieces (which I pull one apart to make two because they are too big) lasts a week or two. After that you can throw them out or, if you are desperate, wash them with some soap and water and use again. One box lasts me about 2 months before I have thrown them all away from from loss of flexibility. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Neanderthal-Brow ? Why Pay More ?
My eyeball is a good half-inch or so behind the eyebrow, and this mask is sufficiently stiff that when I blink the eyelashes just lightly touch the mask, in contrast to the airline-freebie it replaces( which, NOT being stiff, is forced into eye-contact by the retaining-strap pressure ).
Being also considerably wider than the airline-freebie, it makes good contact at the edges and shuts out the light much better.
Another review complains about the stiffness, which is however essential to the eye-relief.On which subject I've never seen any remarks on eyebrow-to-eyeball-relief which seems to have a wide variance between "races" etc.Without that half-inch or so you might indeed need another product with the bulging eye-pieces to provide more clearance.

2-0 out of 5 stars EH...
I wouldn't use this to sleep in cause it's not very comfortable and can be very distracting(which isn't good if you're trying to sleep)..Also the elastic band isn't comfortable at all. If you want one to sleep in better get one made of silk or a softer material than this one..

If you need a blindfold and not a sleep mask than this may do, but not for a sleep mask..

3-0 out of 5 stars this one isn't too nice
It works but it doesn't feel quite comfortable. I would add several dollars more next time to buy a softer one.

5-0 out of 5 stars comfortable and works well

5-0 out of 5 stars extremely comfortable
I have only used this pillow for 4 nights but it is sooooo comfortable. I have a hiatal hernia and in addition to medication I'm supposed to sleep with my head raised. I think this will work just fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't Sleep Without It
I have been sleeping on the Medslant pillow for about a month now and can't imagine sleeping without it. It has drastically reduced my nighttime reflux and has generally improved the quality of my sleep. I find that I fall asleep much faster and am much more comfortable.

The case is wonderful for travel. I wish I had gotten the Medslant with the allergan cover instead of the standard pillowcase, since I love the pillow so much.

I was immediately adjusted to sleeping on this pillow and can't imagine life without it.

4-0 out of 5 stars It Works!
Had a problem with my roommate's snoring waking myself and himself up.Read online that there is no cure to snoring.

This product proved that wrong. He always has a nasty look when he sprays, but no snoring!

5-0 out of 5 stars SnoreStop Extinquisher works for me!
I have used this product for the last two nights so far, and my wife tells me she has not heard any snoring from me at all during the last two nights! Both she and I are delighted with this product! Now, I can also go to conferences and not be afraid of keeping my roommate up all night! SnoreStop Extinquisher works for me, and i will keep on using it!

5-0 out of 5 stars no more snoring
I bought a spray bottle and the first time i used it i did not snore that night. The product truely does work !now i get a better sleep and so does my wife.

1-0 out of 5 stars The only way it stops storing is by keeping you awake
If you were designing a drug to help people sleep, what would be the LAST ingredient you would use? Speed? Not if you are making Snore Stop.

I tried this once. Within 15 minutes I was drenched in sweat, my heart was racing and I was nauseous. I spent the night moving in and out of a nightmarish sleep. You would have better luck smoking crack before going to bed. I can't imagine what would happen if someone accidentally sprayed this thing 4 or 5 times. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I wouldn't be surprised to find that some people have after using this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Breathe Right Nasal Strips, Large, Tan (30 Strips)
I've used the Breathe Right Nasal Strips since they were introduced and have been pleasantly surprised that they live up to the manufacturers claims. I've noticed more energy when used during daytime activities where extra exertion had left me a bit fatigued and short of breath. I've also been told by my wife that the Breathe Right Nasal Strips have lessened and almost completely done away with my snoring. I feel more rested.
Do make sure to follow application directions - clean the oily surface of your nose so that the product stays on. Even after
overnight use, the Breathe Right Nasal Strips are easily removed. I'm happy with this product and so is my wife.

This product really works. I have to admit I was very skeptical, but after trying it, I could actually breathe better. I recommend this product to allergy suffers or anyone who has a stuffy nose.

This product was great at clearing up stuffiness and I used it mostly when playing sports. They helped me breathe through my nose better. The drawback is that the strips tend to start coming off when you sweat. The ends lift up and it gets so annoying you just pull it off. I don't snore but I do breathe heavily while sleeping and it did help with that. Another drawback: the cost is pretty high.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well for those who hate listening to a snoring husband
I purchased these ear plugs one night when my husband and I had to make a quick trip up to Walgreens. As he rummaged through the clearance section as he usually does, I walked around the store looking at various products -- when suddenly, a colorful array of ear plugs on the wall next to the pharmacy caught my eye.Curious and sick of listening to my husband's snoring, I decided to take a look at what they had.I work at Target on the sales floor and had seen these particular ear plugs numerous times while working, and always wanted to try them out because my husband's snoring bothers me so much. While my husband really does not snore all that loudly, when I am trying to fall asleep even the slightest noises really bother me (once I have fallen asleep, I am usually fine with regards to noise). And since I usually go to sleep after he does, it creates a bit of a problem wherein he is being yelled at, jabbed, and nudged (and sometimes kicked) all throughout the night ;) And then neither of us get any sleep. So, I decided to purchase them for the decent price of $2.99 for 5 sets of 2 and a small plastic carrying case.

As soon as we returned home, I had to try them out -- so I read the directions and then waited until my husband and I were having a conversation (ha!), and I snuck them into my ears.I was amazed to find that, while I could hear him, it was as if he were yelling to me from hundreds of feet away and I could barely make out what he was saying.

As others have stated, they are a bit difficult to get into the ear canal -- really, you have to be very quick at placing them in your ears after smashing them into the small cylinder shape (as the instructions direct).I found myself having to re-smash them multiple times before getting it right! You must be sure to follow the directions carefully, as they will not work well if you do not have them placed in your ear canal properly.

After you've gotten them into place correctly, they really do eliminate much of the sound around you.I have them in my ears now as I am typing this, with the keyboard no more than 1.5 feet away, and I cannot hear myself typing.

The larger end of the ear plugs make it very easy to grasp them when you are putting them in and taking them out. They are a bit uncomfortable at first, but you will most likely get use to them after a few minutes.

My only qualm about these ear plugs is one that I really have with all foam ear plugs - the feeling of pressure. The feeling of the pressure in my ears almost gives me a headache.

Otherwise, they work very well and I would definitely recommend them.

4-0 out of 5 stars As Anti-Yell-Phone Devices:Good, but still not strong enough
As a commuter, I have discovered the value of earplugs to reduce somewhat the horrendous sound of inconsiderate LOUD yell-phone talkers. These Leight Sleeper Plugs are good because they have an enlarged end that prevents you from sticking them too far in, and also makes them easy to remove. The carrying case is quite useful and easy to clean, as are the plugs themselves. A set like this should last you a long time.
However, a 32 sound reduction rating is still not strong enough for some of us. If some charming hell-phoner sits next to, beside, or in front of me, the jig is up. I can still hear their horrendous yakking loud and clear. But, in general, I can say these plugs are very effective and wonderful to have because they virtually eliminate all noise but that which is very close to you. (I recommend putting them in BEFORE they start shouting on those phones, by the way.) Also, very loud noises, including conductor's announcements, come through these earplugs, so you do not have to worry about it getting 'too' quiet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Expand to fit your ear canal
Less comfortable than the Mack's Earplugs, but actually they are
not too bad. I just don't like the feeling of pressure
on the inside of my ear canal. I guess you can get used to anything.

As far as noise reduction goes, they work pretty well.

The noise reduction rating is 32

Yes, you can still hear through them, but they take
the edge off the noise.

Not suitable for swimming, but useful for
sleeping or blocking out high pitched noises.

After about 2 minutes, you do seem to forget they
are in your ears. So, I guess these are suitable
for sleeping.

4-0 out of 5 stars I took the Leight Sleeper Ear Plugs on ...
I took the Leight Sleeper Ear Plugs on vacation. I was pleased by how they helped me to go to sleep in a motel room.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very difficult to fit into my ear canal ...
Very difficult to fit into my ear canal -- I had to be quick. They worked effectively once inserted. These would be excellent for a noisy, factory type work environment. I'd only recommend these to someone using them on a regular basis due to the difficulty of learning to insert them. ... Read more
