Not a no-brainer.
I ordered a week's supply not so much to shed weight (though some toning is definitely in order) but to insure that I'd have something resembling a balanced diet.My low-carb recipe books were collecting dust due to a busy schedule, and the glass of orange juice at breakfast, Snickers bar at lunch, and quick pizza before retiring were doing nothing for my energy and endurance.

I eagerly opened the box and was immediately taken back by the paucity of instructions (a single sheet) as well as by their very general nature.Besides eating the Nutrisystem products, I was being instructed to supplement each of the 4 daily entrees with items such as "1 Fruit Serving, 1 Milk/Protein Serving, 1 Low Glycemic Carbohydrate Serving, 2 Vegetable Servings, 2 Fat Servings."

What gives?What if I ignore the supplements and go exclusively with the Nutrisystem Diet contained in the box?Will I end up dangerously malnourished?How much of the protein, carbs, and mdr vitamins and minerals can I depend on getting out of the products I received?And if they're not sufficient, how can I insure I won't get carried away once I start supplementing?

I went to the website and found lots of charts and daily schedules for conditioning, yoga exercises, aerobic work-outs, etc. (I'd be more inclined to use that time to prepare the low-carb recipes) but very little about the food "program."Even a promised "check-book size daily planner" never arrived.

My hunch is that my thirst for knowledge about the "system" behind Nutrisystem would be satisfied if I ordered the monthly plan or purchased the $16 book from Amazon.For what it's worth, I found the vacuum-packed food to be quite edible if not always tasty or filling (though the inclusion of items such as oat meal made me wish I'd customized my order).In sum, the Nutrisystem system along with the telephone and website "counselors" are whatever you choose to make of them--potentially more beneficial than another diet book but not by a whole lot.

Enlightening and Tasty
My one week of NutriSystem foods was a true eye opener in terms of portion size! Wow! I must have been eating 5+ portions of cereal each morning--and assumed I was eating 1-2.Same for all of my other meals.No wonder I need to lose weight. :)The food was actually quite good.One supplements it with low-fat dairy, fruits, veggies, and sometimes additional carbs.All of the meals are planned around "healthy" carbs and the glycemic index.Very cool.I found the women's program didn't really provide me with enough to eat, so I just switched to the men's program and still lost weight.The food is pretty good. It's not as expensive as it seems--if your eating habits were anything like mine.I easily spent this much on groceries and restaurants during the week.The program comes with an exercise booklet and a "MindNourish" booklet.Both are quite good.You'll also receive a checkbook like diet log...where you check off your meals, log water and exercise, and track your weight.

I was really impressed with the completeness of the NutriSystem program--and the research behind it.Plus, the food was pretty good too.Comparable to typical store "Brand" food.I recommend the one-week for those interested in trying NutriSystem without committing to a longer time period.

Oh, if you don't eat pork (I don't)... this one week program did not contain any. Which was a bonus to me.

I've been on Nutrisystem since September 2003.I've lost 25lbs.This program absolutely works.They send you a 28 day supply of food; breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks.Everything is pre-packaged, pre-measured and a single serving (except for just a few items).You can order a 1200 or 1500 calorie a day plan.The food is all shelf stable and can go in your cupboard.The food tastes great. The packaging is great. I lost 32 lbs. - love this program
This program is great. I've lost 32 pounds and I'm still losing. I'll tell you up front, I'm a weight loss counselor at NutriSystem, but please read this, because every day I talk to people who are succeeding on this program, and I want to tell you more about it so you can see for yourself how great it could work for you.

The new NutriSystem Nourish program is their best program yet, because it's based on the Glycemic Index, which means that it features foods that have "good carbs" but are still low in fat. As a counselor, many people ask me, "What's the difference between "good" carbs, "bad" carbs...which is best for weight loss?" Here's what's I tell them:

Some carbohydrates can spike your blood sugar and insulin levels and make your body store fat instead of burn it-these are the "bad" carbs and they have a high rating on the scale that measures carbs, called the Glycemic Index. It really does work!
My whole life I had been overweight, from early childhood through my mid-30's. Over that time, I tried so many diets with little or no success and with each one gaining a little more as my "guilt" of failing spun me into eating more and more.

That all changed for me when I began using NutriSystem food on June 20, 2001 - the last weight loss program I will ever use or recommend!

In early 2001, my weight had climbed to over 200 lbs and, at only 5', walking even a short distance (from the car to the house) made me so out of breath that I would limit what I did and where I went.

Over the length of my weight loss, 76lbs and taking close to 16 months, the program taught me portion control and behavior modification (which have been PRICELESS lessons to learn) all while eating GREAT tasting NutriSystem meals and desserts. And yes, the food and desserts are yummy and very satisfying!

Because the NutriSystem food is so good, and there are so many different choices, I never once thought about stopping or quitting and days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months and before I knew it I had reached my goal and then some.

Finally an easy diet!
Dieting is hard.I have always struggled with my weight and been on just about every diet out there.Finally Nutri made a diet that is so easy I hardly need to think about what I am doing.I just eat and lose weight.I have recommended this to 2 of my friends and they have both been successful.One had more wieght to lose so she is losing faster, but even the one with a 20 lbs. weight loss goal has already lost 6.5 lbs.I was so happy when I lost 23 lbs and was able to shop for smaller sizes.Summer will be here soon and I know I am going to look great, and so will my girlfriends.

Nourish is really the carb answer !!!!
I tried the old Nutrisystem program and had some trouble losing because the carbs were to high....I only lost 2 pounds in one month...I decided to try the new Nourish program...I thought with the guarantee ...I have no reason not to...I heard so much good about the glycemic index. Let me tell you it is the best thing I have ever done for myself...I have been doing the new Nourish program and in 3 weeks I have lost 8.5 pounds...and I have yet to feel I am on a diet...this is great !!! If you had tried this before and lost weight successfully, or didn't like the food and quit, you need to give it another shot.The new foods really taste great!It is hard to imagine that you can eat chocolate and chips and pasta and still lose weight.I love not having to think about what I am going to eat or if it is healthy.

I lost 32 lbs. - love this program
This program is great. I've lost 32 pounds and I'm still losing. I'll tell you up front, I'm a weight loss counselor at NutriSystem, but please read this, because every day I talk to people who are succeeding on this program, and I want to tell you more about it so you can see for yourself how great it could work for you.

The new NutriSystem Nourish program is their best program yet, because it's based on the Glycemic Index, which means that it features foods that have "good carbs" but are still low in fat. As a counselor, many people ask me, "What's the difference between "good" carbs, "bad" carbs...which is best for weight loss?" Here's what's I tell them:

Some carbohydrates can spike your blood sugar and insulin levels and make your body store fat instead of burn it-these are the "bad" carbs and they have a high rating on the scale that measures carbs, called the Glycemic Index. Carbohydrates that are better for you, and don't cause your body to store fat, rate low on the index, and are called "good" carbs.

NutriSystem has specially-formulated their new meals and snacks to contain the "good" carbs that have low glycemic index values. That means you get to eat the foods you love (like NutriSystem pizza, blueberry muffins, cheeseburgers, scrambled eggs, chicken salad, rotini with meatballs, fettuccini alfredo, sloppy joes, sweet and sour chicken, beef stew, vanilla pudding and even chocolates) and still lose weight. They've got about 100 meals and desserts you can choose from that all fit into their new low glycemic index meal plan, and all the foods are either ready to go right away, or heat up in minutes in the microwave or by adding hot water. Great way to try the program!
My whole life I had been overweight, from early childhood through my mid-30's. Over that time, I tried so many diets with little or no success and with each one gaining a little more as my "guilt" of failing spun me into eating more and more.

That all changed for me when I began using NutriSystem food on June 20, 2001 - the last weight loss program I will ever use or recommend!

In early 2001, my weight had climbed to over 200 lbs and, at only 5', walking even a short distance (from the car to the house) made me so out of breath that I would limit what I did and where I went.

Over the length of my weight loss, 76lbs and taking close to 16 months, the program taught me portion control and behavior modification (which have been PRICELESS lessons to learn) all while eating GREAT tasting NutriSystem meals and desserts. And yes, the food and desserts are yummy and very satisfying!

Because the NutriSystem food is so good, and there are so many different choices, I never once thought about stopping or quitting and days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months and before I knew it I had reached my goal and then some.

As for the food, I personally have so many favorites like the Macaroni w/ cheese and beef, Pizza, Pasta Parmesan with Broccoli, cheeseburgers,... to name just a few, and not to go on and on.

The best part of the NutriSystem program for me was not having to think. Sounds funny I know, but I would just grab a meal and off I went. I believe the NutriSystem program, with its pre-packaged meals, helped me take the fuss and time out of preparing meals so that I could focus my energy on reaching my results. And even better the NutriSystem food only takes a few minutes to prepare and/or heat, and for me that was perfect since I am no cook.

Before NutriSystem my life was filled with a lot of tears, pain, and ridicule from family, friends, and strangers and now - it is full of activities, excitement, laughter, fun, and love for myself!

Trust me - NutriSystem changed my life 180 degrees and my only wish is that I would have learned of the program years ago. But thankfully it wasn't too late. Starting was the best decision of my life!
